Effects of Classroom Peers on Test Scores: Evidence from the College Scholastic Ability Test of year 1995 (대입수학능력시험 성적 자료를 이용한 학급 내 동료 효과의 분석)

  • Using the College Scholastic Ability Test of year 1995, the paper investigates effects of classroom peers on a student's test scores. It exploits exogenous assignment of students across different classrooms within a school under the leveling policy in 1990s. The empirical results reveal strong impacts of peers on individual students. Negative effects of low-performing peers exceed positive effects of high-performing peers. Such a structure of peer interactions has important implications for ability grouping vs. mixing debates in Korea.

  • 본 연구는 팀기반학습을 활용한 교과목을 수강한 간호대학생 56명을 대상으로 동료평가와 학업성취도와의 관계에서 수업몰입의 매개효과를 검정하였다. 매개효과 분석은 PROCESS macro Program의 model 4를 부트스트래핑(bootstrapping)을 이용하여 검정하였다. 분석 결과는 첫째, 동료평가, 수업몰입과 학업성취도 간에 유의한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 수업몰입은 동료평가가 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 부분매개 하는 것으로 확인되었다. 동료평가가 간호대학생을 위한 TBL 과정에서 수업몰입과 팀워크를 촉진하고 궁극적으로 학업성취도를 향상시키는 효과적인 도구가 될 수 있음을 시사하며, 교수자가 학생의 학습성과를 개선할 수 있는 보다 효과적인 교육 전략 및 개입을 개발하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다.

The Educational Effects of Peer Agent System to Improve Problem-Solving Ability (문제해결력 향상을 위한 동료 에이전트 시스템의 교육적 효과)

  • There are several studies in order to learn about programming language. This paper develops a peer agent system based on teaching and learning strategies in order to improve problem-solving ability. Problem-solving ability involves three components - content understanding, domain-dependent problem-solving strategies, and self-regulation. This paper shows the teaching and learning strategies about components of problem-solving for learning to program and the peer agent system uses the teaching and learning strategies. This study intents to analyze the educational effects of the peer agent system. The results show that the system has superior effects on problem-solving ability compared to traditional programming courses or pair programming courses. It means that the peer agent system is the effective educational system in improving student's problem-solving ability.

The Effect of Friendship-Based Peer Tutoring on the Achievement of Computer Literacy Instruction (급우 관계에 의한 짝 구성 동료 교수법이 컴퓨터 실기 수업의 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study introduced a peer tutoring in computer education for the purpose of overcoming the individual differences. Two research problems were investigated. The first is to confirm the effect of the peer tutoring on academic achievement, and the second is to compare the effects of the peer tutoring under the two different pair composition: friendship-based vs ability-based. All of the students of three classrooms in a middle school were included in this experimental research. The results showed no significant difference between the peer tutoring and the teacher instruction. However, the peer tutored group showed higher achievements than the other group, so we could confirm the positive effect of the peer tutoring. At the beginning, the friendship-based pair group showed a significantly higher achievement than the ability-based pair group, but as times go on the friendship effect was gradually diminished.

  • We have developed a peer agent to support programming learning and analyzed its educational effects in a programming course. The agent acts as a tutor or a tutee. The role of a tutor/tutee is like the role of a navigator/driver in pair programming. While students are learning with the peer agent, the students' programming abilities are modeled. Based on the student's model, the peer agent provides appropriate feedbacks and contents to the learner. The peer agent gives positive effects on learners' achievement and self-efficacy in a programming course. It means that the peer agent system helps the learner in an affective domain as well as a cognitive domain.

Moderating Effects of Political Skill in the Relations Perceived Co-Workers Politics-OCBC and -Turnover Intention (동료 조직정치지각과 동료지향 조직시민행동 및 이직의도 관계에서 정치적 기술의 조절효과)

  • The present study is aimed to investigate on the moderation of self-rated political skill on the relationships between perceived co-workers' politics and outcome variables (OCB toward co-workers and turnover intention). The used data for analysis was collected from 375 employees who have worked for public and private companies located in Jeju. The results are as follows. First, the main impacts of perceived co-workers politics(PCP) on OCB-C was not statistically significant, whereas the relation of PCP to turnover was positively significant. Second, moderating effects by political skill in the relationship perceived co-workers' politics and OCB-C was not significant, but the moderation in the relation perceived co-workers' politics-to-turnover intention was supported. Implications of the current study are 1) the casual effects of politics on OCB was demonstrated, in particular, the results of previous studies which was not consistent to account for the impact of politics on OCB was proved by the differentiation of research target. The result will help to understand perceived politics. In addition, moderation of political skill in the relation perceived co-workers' politics-to-turnover intention will contribute to expand researcher area of political skill.

  • 본 연구는 프로그래밍 학습에서 교육용 로봇인 피코크리켓을 활용하여 동료지도학습을 실시하고 학업성취와 교우관계에 미치는 영향에 대해서 효과를 검증하는 실험연구이다. 프로그래밍 학습은 다양한 학습효과에도 불구하고 문법의 어려움과 학습내용의 어려움 때문에 그 효과를 제대로 발휘하지 못하고 있다. 그러나 교육용 로봇에서 사용하는 프로그래밍 언어는 입문자를 배려한 프로그래밍 방법을 사용하여 학습자가 쉽게 다가갈 수 있는 요소가 있다. 한편 프로그래밍 교육은 타 학습내용에 비해 수준별 학습이 더욱 요구되는 학습내용으로서 일제식 수업방법으로는 지도의 어려움이 많다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 교육용 로봇을 활용하여 프로그래밍 교육을 동료지도학습법으로 실시하고 이의 학업성취와 교우관계에 미치는 영향을 탐색해 보는 연구를 설계하였다.

Coworker Social Loafing and Knowledge Sharing: The Moderating Role of Gender Effects (동료의 사회적 태만과 지식 공유: 성별의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined the peer and gender effects in knowledge-sharing behavior. More specifically, this paper examined how coworker social loafing is related to knowledge sharing and how gender differences moderate the relationship between coworker social loafing and knowledge-sharing behavior. Drawing on economic and social exchange theory, this study predicts that coworker social loafing will decrease the knowledge-sharing behavior. In addition, this paper hypothesized that men will be more likely to withdraw knowledge-sharing behavior than women when they faced coworker social loafing. To test these hypotheses, this paper conducted a hierarchical regression test with the supervisor-employee dyad samples. The empirical results showed that in the relationship between coworker social loafing and knowledge-sharing behavior, coworker social loafing decreased the knowledge-sharing behavior, and the negative effect was larger in the case of men rather than women. In the discussion section, this paper proposes the theoretical and practical implications based on theoretical arguments and empirical findings.

Effects of Fundamental Nursing Practice Education Applying Reciprocal Peer Tutoring on Confidence in Performance, Core Nursing Skills, and Practice Satisfaction of Nursing Students (상호동료 교수학습 기반의 기본간호학실습 교육이 간호대학생의 핵심간호술 수행자신감, 숙련도 및 실습만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study is a similar experimental study before and after non-equivalence control to examine the effect of fundamental nursing practice education applying reciprocal peer tutoring on confidence in performance, core nursing skills, and practice satisfaction of nursing students. Data collected by 83 people sophomore P university nursing students, the study period is from May 17 to 11 March 2019. As a results, the fundamental nursing practice education applied with the reciprocal peer tutoring method had an effect on the confidence in performance and core nursing skills of 'medium' degree of difficulty, and had a positive effect on the satisfaction of practice. In the future, this study suggests that the method of reciprocal peer teaching is extended to various practical majors and the effects of core nursing skills are tested.

The Effect of Peer Tutoring and Learner Characteristics on Academic Achievement and Self-efficacy in Computer Education (컴퓨터 실습 수업에서 동료교수법과 학습자의 성향이 학업 성취도 및 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study focuses on applying the peer tutoring as an alternative instructional method in computer education. The purpose of this study is two folds: first, to examine the effect of peer tutoring on academic achievement; and second, to investigate the effect of peer tutoring on self-efficacy on learning about computer. To achieve the purpose, an experimental research was performed with 130 10th graders. The results showed no significant differences between the two groups on academic achievement, and among four groups of peer tutoring. However, there are significant differences on learners' self-efficacy.
