  • Sludge generated in the production of ready-mixed concrete is classified as waste and processed at a high cost. In particular, small and medium-sized ready-mix manufacturer are burdened with such costs, and some companies are illegally processing them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest a method for recycled remicon sludge as a concrete block composition. When the remicon sludge is simply dried, the residual chemical admixture and ettringitee contained in the sludge are present, so that the compressive strength of the concrete block and the compressive strength after freezing and thawing are largely deteriorated to meet the quality standards of the concrete shore and retaining wall block It was not possible to do. As a method for satisfying the physical performance, it was found that the remicon sludge was calcined at a high temperature of about $900^{\circ}C$. to decompose ettringite and residual chemical admixture and then used it.

  • In Mt. Halla, an arctic-alpine plant Diapensia lapponica var. obovata largely clings to rock surfaces. We observed the rock-surface temperatures of a rocky ridge on the summit area of the mountain from late April 2009 to early May 2010 in order to examine the diurnal and annual temperature variations and the thermal amplitude. We also investigated temperature regimes such as the frequency of freeze-thaw cycles and the temperature change, which might endanger the habitat through frost weathering. For comparison of slope aspects, temperature monitoring was carried out on the north and south faces of the same rocky ridge. The south face experiences the high daily maximum rock-surface temperatures and the high thermal amplitudes during the unfreezing season of May to November 2009. The temperature regimes are considered to exert physiological stress to the arctic-alpine plant. In addition, the south face shows the high frequency of freeze-thaw cycles during the seasonal freezing period of December 2009 to April 2010. This indicates that the south face is susceptible the exfoliation and granular disintegration of rock surfaces, which results in habitat destruction. As a consequence, the south face is believed to be less favorable for the establishment and growth of the arctic-alpine plant than the north face on the summit area of Mt. Halla.

  • In this study, as a basic study to use recycled limestone powder as a secondary product mixture for concrete, it was found that the compressive and flexural strengths were equal to or slightly improved compared to Plain up to 10% and 20% of the RLP mixing ratio, but the strength was rather decreased at 30% mixing. As a result of the heat of hydration experiment, as the RLP mixing rate increased, the heat of hydration decreased, and the elapsed time of the maximum heat was also delayed. As a result of the drying shrinkage test, as the fine powder RLP filled the internal pores of the cement mortar, the drying shrinkage decreased as the mixing rate increased. The compressive strength, water absorption rate, and compressive strength after freezing and thawing of the concrete block mixed with RLP 20% all satisfied the group standard criteria of the Korea Concrete Industry Cooperative Federation, confirming the possibility of use as a mixed material.

  • In this study, the mechanical properties and frost resistance of concrete with steel and nylon fibers were experimentally investigated. Both of OPC concrete with 100 % ordinary portland cement and SGC concrete replaced with 50 % GGBFS were manufactured to evaluate effects of fibers to the performance of concrete. Compressive and split tensile strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and surface electric resistivity measurements of concrete were carried out at a predetermined interval. In addition, the freezing & thawing resistance of concrete in accordance with ASTM C666 standard was also examined. As a result, it is seemed that the effect of fibers was remarkable to improve the mechanical properties and frost resistance of concrete, especially for the concrete incorporating steel fiber.

  • In this study, the characteristics of recycled aggregate concrete according to the mixing ratio of recycled fine aggregate were analyzed by design strength to explore its use in the production of ready-mixed concrete. The results show that, depending on the ratio of recycled aggregate, the compressive strength is similar to that of normal concrete and does not deteriorate. Therefore, it is possible to achieve a strength similar to the target design strength. Furthermore, if the ratio of recycled fine aggregate for concrete is up to 25 % of the total aggregate amount (50 % of the to-tal fine aggregate), slump does not cause problems. Our findings show that the higher the de-sign standard strength, the greater the amount of powder, and management of slump reduction, unit quantity, and performance system is necessary. The obtained results show that recycled ag-gregate can be used for the production of ready-mixed concrete after adjusting its mixing ratio and concrete mix proportions.

  • Durability problems may arise in the concrete, which is one of the major construction materials, used in the construction field. Bridge piers and foundation piles are usually made with concrete and they are exposed to the moisture and hence the durability of the concrete reduced significantly due to oxidization of re-bar and icing of concrete. To mitigate such problems, FRP tube has been developed and the concrete filled FRP tube (CFFT) has been investigated to find the confinement effect which is provided additionally. It was reported that if the concrete is wrapped with FRP, strength and chemical resistance are improved significantly. In order to apply such a member in the construction field, structural behavior and applicable design guideline or design criteria must be thoroughly investigated. In the experimental investigation, the results are compared with the previous research results and the relationship which can predict the ultimate strength and strain is suggested. In addition, some comments found at the compression tests are given briefly.

  • This study was conducted to develop a thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials which is considered as a durable pavement materials. The mechanical performance characteristics of the polymer epoxy resin materials were also evaluated to confirm the validity as a pavement materials. To estimate the performance properties of the materials, bending tests and bonding tests were performed using freeze-thaw and ultra-violet rays to accelerate the aging of materials. In addition, HYUNStay, a commercial structural analysis program for cable-stayed bridges, was used to compare the effect of paving materials between the polymer epoxy resin materials and the conventional ones on the reduction of cable tension and on the stability of the main tower. According to the test results, it is noted that the thin paving technique using polymer epoxy resin materials can improve the performance and durability of pavement compared to the conventional one.

  • This paper is aimed to evaluate the mechanical properties and durability of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) with different levels of steel fiber (SF) content. To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) were added in the fresh RWM. The compressive and split tensile strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens at the predetermined periods. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out to examine mechanical properties of RWM mixes. The durable performances such as chloride ions penetrability and freezing-thawing resistance of RWM mixes were experimentally investigated. As resutls, it was found that the performance of RWM mix with SF were much better than that without SF, especially at the 2% addition of SF. Thus, it is noted that the proper addition of SF in the RWM mix may have a beneficial effect to improve mechanical properties and durability of RWM mixes.

  • The performance of high-early strength pavement concrete for large areas is influenced by the physical and chemical environment during service life. Generally, penetration, diffusion, and absorption of harmful materials that exist outside the concrete cause damage to its structure. Thus, we have to use a mixture for durability to keep the required quality for the planned service life. Moreover, in using high-early-strength cement and accelerators, a high heat of hydration to create the initial strength can cause cracks. Based on evaluations from optimal mix proportions of high-early-strength pavement concrete for large areas, we conducted water permeability, abrasion resistance, freeze-thaw, plastic, drying, and autogenous shrinkage tests. Test result showed that a mix of accelerator and PVA fibers showed excellent performance.
