  • This essay attempts a historical examination of educational function of the novel. It pays attention to the eighteenth century sentimentalism, and its historical vicissitudes up to early twenties century. The eighteenth century is the period in which debates on the nature of emotion and its moral and aesthetic role have passionately taken place and the modern paradigm of thought on affect has been formed. This is why "affect revival phenomenon" in the late twenties century goes back to this period. This essay finds in Adam Smith the most sophisticated arguments on sympathy in their relation to the development of the novel; it examines the relationship of Smith's argument with modern novel in the tradition of sentimentalism, and its revision in modernist novel. Through this examination, it discusses how cognitive and non-cognitive approaches, the two representative positions in contemporary thinking on emotion/affect, have revised and transformed the eighteenth century sentimentalism.

  • To investigate the relationship between voice and the image created by the voice, a perception experiment was undertaken in which voices of 8 males and 8 females reading a fairy tale were recorded and presented to 100 subjects along with the speakers' pictures. Two kinds of pictures were taken: one, a whole-body picture, and the other, a face-only close-up picture. Subjects were asked to match each voice with its owner. The results showed that out of 8, more than 4 were matched correctly. And the correct rate was higher when the voices were matched against the whole-body pictures than against the face-only pictures. In addition, it was noted that far more people picked a single voice as the most 'favorite' one than they picked one picture as the most 'favorite' image.

Understanding Gender Differences in Social Media "like" Behavior: Empathy, Social Support, Relationship Building and Information Sharing (소셜 미디어 상 '좋아요'를 누르는 행위를 인식함에 있어 남녀 차이에 대한 탐색적 연구: 공감 혹은 지지, 그리고 관계 강화 혹은 정보 공유)

  • This study explored the emotional and social implications of social media "like" behavior and examined the difference in this behavior across gender. Most studies on social media have analyzed the "like" behavior quantitatively and determined the number of "likes" produced and exchanged. The current study presented a different view by applying a social perspective and analyzing the user intrinsic motives embedded in the "like" behavior. Specifically, we identified empathy and social support as the "like" motivations and used relationship building and information sharing as the mediators. Furthermore, we hypothesized that empathy and social support exhibit different effects on the use of social media across gender: the female group shows strong empathy, and the male group shows strong social support. Validation was performed through a survey of 285 social media users. The results confirmed that empathy and social support have significant effects on the use of social media. However, gender difference in the use of social media was not evident and was only partially evident in the effects of empathy and social support.

  • Garment is not only a part of formative art that establishes a live shape by wearer but also space modeling which features the solidity based on human body. Hence, beyond the simple meaning of 'wearing clothes', modeling which makes a cubic shape in accordance with human body's movement, is an important element in garment design. This study examined puli-over-typed garment design that owns abundant space sense, taking complex shapes of geometrical diagrams with brief and simple features as a motive. The study aims at seeking after the combination of plane and cubic forms, and exploring formative garments which are further modern and different variance by approaching the natural section of geomentrical facets with tightfitting idea and composition of delicate colors and forms when plane pattern was put on human body.

  • This study was performed to provide the optimal conditions of quantitative analysis for free amino acid in fermented protein foods. The water extractable free amino acid from dairy fermented foods was extracted effectively at $75^{\circ}C$ for 40 min., while it were extracted from fermented soy products at $40^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. A close results of free amino acid content to those from amino acid analyzer were obtained using OPDA method with lysine standard after deproteinizing with 1% picric acid. 95% ethanol used as a deproteinizing reagent could give a comparable results to those from picric acid treatment in determining free amino acid content using OPDA method. Therefore, ethanol treatment was more recommendable than picric acid treatment which has some troubles in removing excess picric acid through Dowex resin column. The most desirable precipitation method for free amino acid determination using TNBS method was 95% ethanol treatment among the various deproteinizing procedure. The copper salt method was not suitable owing to its lacking reproducibility and pronounced discrepancy in determining free amino acid.

  • A questionary survey was performed to invetigate the citizen's attitude concerning the waste incineration facility. People disliked most cremetorim followed by waste transfer station, chmical factory, waste incineration facility and sanitary landfill. Most people favored 1km minimum distance of incineration facilities from the residence. Most people think that we need most composting facilities in the future followed by sanitary landfill and incineration facilities. Majority of people was willing to accept the perfect incineration facilities near their residence. However, 37.6% answered no. Most people accepted complusory measures by the goverment in the location of incineration facilites. One incineration facility per one city or Gun was slightly favored than multy-city or Gun incineration facility. People think that perfect thchnology most important to overcome Nimby's.

  • The survey and analysis of preferences for temple food known to health promotion and prevention of adult diseases aimed at popularization of the monks living in Daegu Gyeongbuk and Busan Gyeongnam inspections are as follows. Monks have been recognized as healthy food (42.2%), and expected contribution of health promotion, such as prevention of adult diseases in the popularization of temple food (74.7%), it was better traditional cooking method, and recognize improvement of nutritional supplement (36.7%). Also, meat used (68.8%) and ohsinchae (57.8%) were not necessary for popularizing. In particular, difference was statistically significant in accordance with the number of monks that live with sex (nuns) (p <0.01). The results suggest that monks agree with popularization of temple food. However, monks stick to traditional cooking method and not in used meat and ohsinchae.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate views of high school students' learning of chemistry as one aspect of conceptual ecology. The results of this study will help us expand our understanding of conceptual change as it is used to evaluate learners. I made use of an interpretative research design based on principles of naturalistic inquiry. The participants in this study were six sophomore students. The picture of a chemistry class we draw from analyzing data is a play on stage with little interaction. Students accept passive and difficult-to-modify views of the learner roles that they should play in the chemistry classroom. Students identified chemistry classes as conservative places. 'Transmission' seems to remain the persistent and dominant classroom cultural dynamic for both the teaching and learning of chemistry. Students should understand about learning processes, and how to play, monitor, evaluate and regulate them. Students should experience the plausibility and fruitfulness of learning chemistry, and it will help students to feel a "love of learning chemistry." As students change their views of learning chemistry, it will help to improve their learning and to experience conceptual change in chemistry learning.
