Numerical analysis of aerodynamic heating for KPSAM is performed using aerodynamic heating model suitable to KPSAM, which has complex flow field resulting from the spike attached to the dome, such as large separation area and the strong shock/boundary layer interaction region around reattachment point on the dome. The aerodynamic heating model is validated and modified through the comparison between the flight test measurement and the thermal analysis results. TFD temperature sensors are installed on the dome to measure surface temperature during the flight. Computation results, obtained from the heat transfer analysis on the sensors, agree well with flight test data. The aerodynamic heating model provides heat transfer rate into surface as a boundary condition of unsteady 1D/axisymmetric thermal analysis on the missile structure. The axisymmetric thermal analysis using FLUENT is more versatile than the 1D analysis and can be applied to the heating problem related with complex structures and multi-dimensional heat transfer problems such as prediction of temperature rise at contact surface of different materials.
Space structure is a appropriate shape that resists external force only with in-plane force by reducing the influence of bending moment, and it maximizes the effectiveness of structure system. The space structure should be analized by nonlinear analysis regardless static and dynamic analysis because it accompanies large deflection for member. To analyze the structure of the space structure exactly generally geometrically nonlinear and material nonlinear, complex nonlinear analysis are considered. To settle the weakness that geometric nonlinear problem does not consider nonlinear as per trait and position of the structure material and that the nonlinear matter of structure material also does not consider nonlinear as per geometric form. Therefore, In this paper, analysis is considered geometric nonlinear and material nonlinear simultaneous conditioning, and traced load-deflection curve by using ABAQUS which is the general purpose of the finite element program.

Dome stretching tests and tension tests were performed to evaluate the formability of a copper alloy used for manufacturing the regenerative cooling chamber. The test specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of heat treatment and direction of specimens on the formability. The test results show that forming limit values are increased by the heat treatment of the material but the variation of the forming limit values by manufacturing direction is negligible compared to the heat treatment effect, and forming limit values are also different according to the test methods. These results indicate that the high temperature heat treatment of the material before bulging is a very important process to deform the inner cylindrical structure of the regenerative cooling chamber into a nozzle shape by the bulging process without necking or fracture and the test methods also have a great effect on a evaluation of the formability. The forming limit diagram obtained in this study would be utilized to the design of regenerative cooling chamber nozzles.

In this study, the reliability of the analysis is evaluated by comparing the average wind pressure coefficient, RMS wind pressure coefficient and wind pressure spectrum with same condition of wind tunnel test which are calculated in the high-Reynolds number range of 1.2×106, 2.0×106 each for the typical curved shape dome structure. And it is examined by the reliability of analysis through Improved delayed detached Eddy Simulation(IDDES), which is one of the hybrid RANS/LES techniques that can analyze the realistic calculation range of high Reynolds number. As a result of the study, it was found that IDDES can be predicted very similar to the wind tunnel test. The distribution pattern of the wind pressure coefficient and wind pressure spectrum showed a similar compared with wind tunnel test.

Conventional spinning, shear forming and flow forming techniques are being utilized increasingly due to the great flexibility provided for producing complicated parts, enabling customers to optimize designs and reduce weight and cost, all of which are vital, especially in automotive industries, space shuttle, a munitions industry. The deformation mechanism of conventional spinning and shear forming is studied in this paper through analysis. The forming loads of a spin formed dome in an Al launch vehicle fuel tank was studied analysis and a simple FE model to predict the forming loads of the dome was proposed. The analysis is carried out to study the effects of feed rates and thickness reduction on material flow.

Fracture characteristics for plate and dome shapes of glass filled ceramics using shock tube were carried out. Glass filled ceramics have been considered as a promising candidate material for the dome port cover of air breathing engine. This part of the air breathing engine has an important role as separated membrane between combustion and external air, and needs the frangible characteristics that the particles of fractured glass filled ceramics should not affect the internal components of combustion. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the fracture pressures for various thicknesses and diameters of shock impact area. Also fracture phenomena of separated membrane using a shock tube compare with analytical method. The experimental apparatus consists of a driver, a driven section and a dump tank. The used material is glass filled ceramic made from Corning company. Specimens have the thickness of 3, 4.5 and 6mm. It is expected that the results obtained from this study can be used in the basic data for the dome port cover design of an air breathing engine.
Smart systems in different application areas such as automotive, medical and consumer electronics require a novel manufacturing method of electronic, optical and mechanical functions into products. Traditional methods including mechanical assembly, bonding of plastic and electronic circuit cause the problems in large size of products and complicated manufacturing processes. In this study, thermoforming and film insert molding were applied to fabricate a dome shaped plastic part embedded with electronic circuits. The deformation of patterns printed on PET film was predicted by thermoforming simulation using T-SIM, and the results were compared with those by experiment. In order to decrease spring-back after thermoforming, the Taguchi method of design of experiment was used. Through ANOVA analysis, it was found that mold temperature was the most dominant parameter for spring-back. By using flow analysis, gate design was performed to decrease injection pressure. During film insert molding, the wash-out of ink printed on film occurred for Polycarbonate. When the resin was changed to PMMA, the wash-out disappeared due to low melt temperature.
The experiment of dome port cover under shock impact is performed with shock tube. The dome port cover blocked intake air duct up from the solid propellant during air breathing vehicle speed reach Mach 2.0. When the air breathing vehicle reach Mach 2.0, the inlet cover is removed and the dome port cover is broken to pieces by detonator or pressure of inlet air. Thus the dome port cover not only must stand the pressure of combustion chamber but also easy to break from the RAM pressure. In this study, a fracture evaluation on the $Al_2O_3$ ceramic spherical dome and circular plate port under impact has been presented. Ceramic were supported by the rigid body and a couple of O-ring. The Mooney-Rivlin model have been used to describe behaviors of both O-ring. And spherical dome and circular plate fracture results of the LS-DYNA code using Johnson-Holmquist(JH-2) constitutive equation was compared.

In this study, a shape design and an analysis considering structural stability were investigated to develop an icosahedron-based hemispherical modular dome. To design this modular dome, a program that can perform icosahedron shape modeling, modularization of joint connection members, and the analysis of structural stability was developed. Furthermore, based on the adopted numerical model, the eigen buckling mode, unstable behavior characteristics according to load vector, and the critical buckling load of the modular dome under uniformly distributed load and concentrated load were analyzed, and the resistance capacities of the structure according to different load vectors were compared. The analysis results for the modular dome suggest that the developed program can perform joint modeling for shape design as well as modular member design, and adequately expressed the nonlinear behaviors of structured according to load conditions. The critical buckling load results also correctly reflected the characteristics of the load conditions. The uniformly distributed load was more advantageous to the structural stability than concentrated load.

Shell-typed structures can make resistance to external forces efficiently, and have merits to construct the large-span structures with thin thickness. This merits are highly depending on the shape of structure. Therefore designers want to the optimum shape, but it is not so easy to find the shape. So far there are many schemes to find more optimum shape, and those methods have their own characteristics. In this study, the authors introduce a relatively easy approach to find optimum shape by the finite element method considering geometric nonlinearity. We are finding the optimum shape of a shell-typed structure using line elements, and compared the results by various analytic models.
