The causes which affects the deterioation of paper arc paper structure, papermaking process, temperature and rative humidity, light and biological agents. Paper made from cllulose fibers by the wood and the nonwood, This paper structure is further hydrolyzed by acidic additive such as the sizing agents during the manufacturing process. These additives leave residual acids in the paper, which break the cellulose clown to simper molecules. The results is weak paper and bas caused most of the damage to book. This study was carried out to investigate the presevation and the deacidification for the permanenece by the book. The deacidification and the chemical agents aims to nutralized the aicd in paper and add alkaline to it as a buffer to withstand future acid attacks. By applying the system to the acid paper with a pH of 4.5 neutralized a pH of 8.5. The expected of alkaline reserved paper extend about 2times and 3times than acidic paper.

This study attempts to identify users' potential information needs in a medium-sized academic library by analyzing reference questions raised by library users for 64 days from October 10th to December 13th, 2000. A total of 474 reference questions were analysed of which only 10.1% were pure reference questions that dealt with the professional knowledge of reference librarians. 71.0% had nothing to do with professional knowledge, being directional(29.3%), mechanic(23.8%), and library policy related(l7.9%). Improvements in sign system and guiding materials in the library should be made to deliver reference services of good quality to academic library users.

Recently, the table of contents (TOC) has been becoming increasingly accessible and utilized. The study conducted descriptive statistics and comparative analysis of the table of contents in terms of parts of speech and subject in text. For this purpose, this study chose the books of the social sciences field from acquisition lists of an academic library, obtained Dewey class numbers of target books from KERIS union catalog, and extracted TOC data from online bookstore. Morphological analysis was performed on each book titles and TOCs, and descriptive statistics and frequency analysis were carried out. As a result, nouns made up roughly half of the morphemes of titles or the TOCs. TOCs had about 50 times more nouns than titles. The percentage of unique nouns that appeared only in the table of contents is estimated to be 95.2% of the TOC's total nouns. The table of contents also showed a differences in its lengths depending on the field of social science.

This study examines the concept of contents and contents management. This study, then, analyses contents management systems in terms of contents creation, storage and service. Finally, it suggests some recommendations for implementing contents management systems. The suggestions of the study can be used for implementing effective Web content management in the future.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the characteristics of a cooperative storage facility for academic libraries in Korea. For this facility, discussed are how to select a site, build physical facilities, recruit participating organizations, prepare for selection criteria and ownership of resources, confirm service policies, and implement a integrated library management and access system. It is emphasized that a cooperative storage facility for academic libraries in Korea should ensure the optimum use of space on campus, preserve "the last copy" which is not frequently used, but still has scholarly values, and extend the effective and efficient resource sharing among participating libraries.

Many readers tend to read books of a specific author and to expand their reading areas according to the author. This study chose Edgar Allan Poe and analyzed the image of the author using co-recommended authors and books by other readers. The frequencies of co-occurred authors and books were investigated and the relations of authors and books were analyzed with network analysis methods. As a result, genre images of Poe, related authors, and related books are discovered. This study also suggested the methods to identify the image of a author, related author groups, and related books for libraries' reading programs and book curation.

The purpose of this study is on the Shera's sociological aspect of librarianship. Jesse H. Shera, educator, philosopher, and theoretician, considered that perhaps his most significant contribution to librarianship was not a “thing” but a “concept”. Library was created to meet certain social necessities, and that its development is closely related not only to intellectual history but also to change in the organizational structure and the value system of its supporting culture. It is axiomatic, then, that the library as a social instrumentality. is, as it has always been, conditioned and shaped by the social milieu within which it function. Therefore we are concerned with the need for a new epistemological discipline, a body of new about knowledge itself.

In these information-communication society, the wireless system technologies are increasing to do all things with wireless solution for fast and convenient works. This trend drives ubiquitous solutions which are based on broadband wireless network that gives network connection whenever, everywhere. This paper deals a bookshelf management system using plower line communication and RFID module. This system includes a 900 MHz RFID reader, Passive RFID-Tags, an Atmeg128 microprocessor board attached LED Display Module, and a management PC with GUI Software. This system works well in power line communication, tag reading and LED display, and PC Management Software.

인터넷 서점은 대형 프랜차이즈 서점만으로도 1백 60여 종에 이른다. 국내 서적 거래의 규모는 약 3조원인데, 이 중 인터넷 서점이 차지하는 규모는 1999년의 150억 이후 꾸준히 증가하여 2001년에는 1200억으로 전체 규모의 약 4%를 차지할 정도다. 출판시장이 감소되고 인터넷 서점의 시장점유율이 기하급수적으로 증가하고 있는 상황에서, 인터넷 서점의 도서 구매를 적극 활용하는 것은 출판시장을 되살리는 계기가 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 인터넷 서점의 활용 방안 중 이용자들에게 제공되는 인터넷 서점 내 리뷰가 이용자들의 구매 확정 의사에 영향을 미칠 것이라고 예상했다. 이에 따라 공공도서관 이용자 85명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 설문결과를 바탕으로 인터넷 서점 리뷰가 인터넷 서점 이용자의 구매 의사결정에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 인터넷 서점 리뷰 외에 구매자의 구매 의사 결정에 영향을 주는 다른 요인이 있는지 연구하였다.

This study analyzed bibliographic attributes related to the selection and use of reading materials based on data on books borrowed or purchased together in order to understand the properties of reading materials that have complex user needs from various perspectives. As a result of creating co-occurrence matrices of bibliographic attribute terms by dividing them into 26 sub-attribute units related to KDC main class, target reader, and user age, and performing network analyses, the details and prominent mediating role of bibliographic attributes of reading materials were identified. The results of this study will be helpful in designing facets of reading information systems, including library OPAC, in the future.
