  • This study aims to present a direction for local libraries on how to collect folk culture content and provide services in cooperation with public libraries across the country, with a focus on public libraries, in implementing the government policy to collect, classify, store, research, and utilize folk culture content. Results of the study drawn from literature review, surveys, case-studies are as follows: First, based on the advantage of higher accessibility than other institutions in charge of folk culture content provision, libraries should take a role to collect, store, and utilize folk culture content for public purpose of improving knowledge and interests of residents and storing local history. Second, folk culture content collection, enhanced content-creating, and user-oriented services reflecting various demands should be expanded, seeking ways to improve management conditions of folk culture content based on collaboration network between libraries, along with drawing interests and support from the local government and the central government. Thirdly, libraries should provide expanded services of collection, creation, use of folk culture content with a focus on local culture through regular and systematic study and building of folk culture content.

  • If the blockchain means storing information in a distributed environment that cannot be forged or altered, it is mentioned that this is similar to what librarians collect, preserve, and share authoritative information. In this way, this study examined blockchain technology as a way to collect and provide reliable information, increase work efficiency inside and outside the library, and strengthen cooperative networks. This study attempted to propose various ways to utilize blockchain technology in book relations based on literature surveys and case studies in other fields. To this end, this study first analyzed the field and cases of blockchain application to confirm the possibility and value of blockchain application in the library field, and proposed 12 ways to utilize it based on this. The utilization model was proposed by dividing it into operation and service sectors. In the operation sector, it is a digital identity-based user record storage and authentication function, transparent management and traceable monitoring function, voting-based personnel and recruitment system, blockchain governance-based network efficiency function, and blockchain-based next-generation device management and information integration function. The service sector includes improved book purchase and sharing efficiency due to simplification of intermediaries, digital content copyright protection and management functions, customized service provision based on customer behavior analysis, blockchain-based online learning platforms, sharing platforms, and P2P-based reliable information sharing platforms.

  • Public library programs serve a cultural function and are a tool for community interaction. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of websites that integrate the programs of various institutions, but there is no set framework to describe the programs. Therefore, in order to prepare a framework for program information, we conducted a content analysis of Jeongdok Library programs as an example. Using MAXQDA, a content analysis tool, category codes for type, topic, special classification, and target audience were derived. Based on this, we analyzed the characteristics of the Jeongdok library programs as follows. In terms of type, there are many programs such as classes and lectures, but fewer programs related to tours, performances and screenings, and operational experiences. In terms of topic matter, programs related to reading and the arts were dominant, while programs related to book curation, awards, and the environment were less common. In terms of target audience, the most common programs were for adults, with fewer programs for high school students, middle school students, and library staff. The framework of Jeongdok library program can be used not only to classify the programs currently operated by other public libraries, but also to develop a service platform for public library programs in Korea.

  • A study on the remote library users showed that remote users preferred online databases and internet as information resources because of easy access and easy of use. However, they have used books and journals, which are printed resources, as main information resources because online databases and internet cannot satisfy their information needs. Also, 86.7 percent of remote users consider library services as an important issue to choose a distance learning program, and remote users extremely motivated by their professors to use library so that there are needs to have partnership between distance learning programs and library services. Finally, remote users consider authority and accuracy and contents of obtained information as important issues for their information rather than design of the databases, so that library should secure more digitalized information for remote users needs. This study is to contribute to improve quality of information services for remote users, however, it is not thoroughgoing enough, and there should be successive researches in the future.

  • This study applied dynamic topic modeling on titles and abstracts of 55,442 academic papers in 85 SSCI journals from 2001 to 2020 in order to analyze research topic trend in library and information science. The analysis revealed four major themes of library management, informatics, library service, and library system in 10 major topics. The results also showed subtopics in information science and library management topic areas to change over time, while library service remained stable over 20 years to establish itself as a robust topic. In addition, medical information emerged as a significant sub-topic of informatics, thus exemplifying the interdisciplinary characteristics of library and information science field.

  • The supply of public libraries in Korea has been rapidly improving because of the recent increase for cultural demands and revitalization of the local culture. This paper aims to analyze the efficiency about 565 public libraries using Clustering DEA/AHP(CDA) model. This model is employed the efficiency analysis in order to incorporate project irreversibility and division due to the limit of resources spending. The results shows that the public libraries are divided into three groups which are large size libraries(Group 1), middle size libraries(Group 2) and small size libraries(Group 3). Their average efficiency was found as 0.89, 0.72 and 0.60 each.

  • This study aims to identify and analyze the Twitter use of domestic public libraries. In order to identify the detailed patterns of Twitter use in library and information services, a content analysis was conducted for the 3,038 tweet data from the top 14 public libraries' accounts on Twitter use. Inductive approach was adopted to develop a coding scheme and open coding was conducted with the entire tweet. Additionally, correspondence analysis was conducted for the result of content analysis to identify how library accounts correspond to specific types. As a result, 3 main categories and 9 sub-categories of public libraries' Twitter use were developed. And the 37 detailed patterns of public libraries' use of Twitter were identified. The identified patterns can provide the libraries interested in Twitter use with guidelines.

  • There is a growing interest in user-centered classification or reader-interest classification, as questions have arisen from the meanings and the effects of traditional library classification. American public libraries have used fiction genre classification called bookstore model as an alternative to the traditional classification schemes. As a result, accessibility to the collection was promoted and library service for their users was improved. This study intends to make a comprehensive inquiry about the philosophical background and functional features of genre classification. To the end, literature survey and interviews or e-mails with librarians in American public libraries were conducted.
