The content analysis of qualitative data showed that the in-depth interview participants have six types of information needs such as 'suitability, up-to-dateness, uniqueness, reliability, practicality, and convenience' while going through societal, educational, and research-related changes. Interview participants solved their information needs by acquiring the resources necessary for each individual's task through information behaviors using information media, human resources and the places. Each participant tried to solve his/her information problem through individual efforts based on their different media and information utilization capabilities. Based on the analysis, this study presented four directions in the development of academic library services. They are an personalized information literacy service, a space to meet the characteristics of information needs, an infrastructure platform for exchanging human resources, and an accessible support service for utilizing information media.

  • Evaluation indicators reflecting recent digital environments are needed as a tool to increase research library's competitiveness and productivity. Especially, research libraries have different subject backgrounds and there are many one-person libraries. In this study, we developed new evaluation indicators based on the draft indicators made in 2007 considering these environmental elements so that it may be used easily and applicable to various research libraries. In developing the new indicators, we reviewed other library type's indicators and listened carefully to the comments from expert librarians in the research libraries through several meetings. After developing the indicators, we made a survey in order to verify its validity as well as its effectiveness and also made a test evaluation for research libraries. The proposed indicators will contribute in evaluating the current level of Korean research libraries and promoting them to the future-oriented libraries.

  • This study aims to identify the status of the classification retrieval operation by investigating and analyzing the classification retrieval related to the books in the university libraries. The Investigation concentrated on whether the classification retrieval service is provided, Access Method and classification retrieval level. The data was collected from 97 libraries where URL access was available during the period of survey in 100 libraries selected by the systematic sampling. As a result, while $92.8\%$ of 97 libraries provided the classification retrieval service, $52.2\%$ of it enabled the access to classification retrieval service only by the classification number and $47.8\%$ by classification number and classification directory. Consequently, it was found that the retrieval environment in the libraries where the access was enabled only by classification number should be urgently improved for the activation of classification retrieval.
