  • The present study surveyed university librarians' perceptions of barriers to research utilization using the Barrier Scales. The results shows that in mean Barriers Scale scores, characteristics of the organization had the highest, and then followed by the communication, the research and the librarian. The most important factor was perceived to be organizational support relating to insufficient time to implement new ideas, inadequate facilities, and lack of authority to make changes and in the communication relating to lack of clarity of research implications for practice, lack to demonstrate research's relevance to practice, and lack of readability of research. Also, incomprehensible English research reports and statistical analyses were perceived as major barriers. The comparison with those of nursing was discussed. In order to settle the barriers identified, librarians should be educated to have 'research literacy' and organazational merit and reward systems were reinforced for research utilization. Also, it needs to explore librarians' specific experiences of barriers in utilizing process in practice. In further research, by integrating both the result of the quantitative and qualitative research, it needs to develop and to assess a standard measurement for librarians' barriers of research utilization in national and international context.

  • This article is an overview of the digital library project, indicating what roles Koreas diverse digital collections may play. Our digital library prototype has simple architecture, consisting of digital repositories, filters, indexing and searching, and clients. Digital repositories include various types of materials and databases. The role of filters is to recognize a format of a document collection and mark the structural components of each of its documents. We are using a database management system (ORACLE and ConText) supporting user-defined functions and access methods that allows us to easily incorporate new object analysis, structuring, and indexing technology into a repository. Clients can be considered browsers or viewers designed for different document data types, such as image, audio, video, SGML, PDF, and KORMARC. The combination of navigational tools supports a variety of approaches to identifying collections and browsing or searching for individual items. The search interface was implemented using HTML forms and the World Wide Web's CGI mechanism.

The educational career of teacher librarians' background has influence on evaluation area of the self-image. This result shows that senior teacher librarians' role performance as a adviser or a leader is very important. So mediator role of KLA and KSLA has to be reinforced to beat the exchange and collaboration between the senior and the junior teacher librarians. It is necessary to appoint the teacher librarians obligatorily in oder to feel their professional security and sense of achievement, also to appreciate expertise of them through role clarification among the human resources of the school library.

  • This study developed a program suitable for operating an infinite creative space within the public library, and analyzed the effect of promoting participants' creativity through a trial run of the program. To do this, we operated a "picture book making activities" program in the infinite creative space of J library located in Chungbuk. This program was performed for 18 elementary students in grades 3-6. Torrance TTCT (The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) tools were used in this study to measure the overall creativity. As a result, first, awareness of the importance and interest in environmental science was improved through the whole program process. Second, participants' problem-solving abilities improved during the program by having to derive a solution for a given problem through brainstorming. Third, storytelling ability improved after the story-creating elements of the program. Fourth, each participants' creativity was improved through creative activities. Fifth, by publishing the results of creative activities of participants as books, the self-esteem of participating children improved as well.
