This study noted the recent impact of Coronavirus Disease-19 (Corona 19) on the environment surrounding the library, and investigated the libraries' response activities. In addition, related issues on news media and social media were detected based on text mining techniques to engage environmental changes surrounding the library. Key issues were derived from 1,852 news reports on the library related to the Corona 19 situation and 227,983 tweets related to the library during the Corona 19 epidemic. Through this, implications were derived: prolonged 'Untact' situations, increased e-book lending, improved expectations for online services and librarians, and re-conceptualized library space. In addition, the direction of future services was discussed by selecting representative examples of library services provided in the non-face-to-face (untact) situation and dividing them into books, services, and spaces.

This study is designed to evaluate the service quality of public libraries according to managing entities by LibQUAL+ and to devise ways to improve problems based on comparison and analysis of the differences in the service qualities. To achieve this, four public libraries in Seoul according to the managing entities were investigated. They consisted of libraries of public corporations, cultural centers, foundations and universities. Minimum service quality level, desired service quality level and perceived service quality was analyzed based on nine-point Lickertis scale. A survey was employed and consisted of twenty-two items. The results showed that current level of service met the minimum level, yet failed to reach their desired service level. The study suggested that public libraries contracting out to private sector need to actively apply users' demands and the changing environment of libraries, and continue to strive to provide public library users with high quality service through efforts of evaluating and improving the services for their users.

With the popularization of smart-phone, a variety of application service user is a rising trend now. In contrast, studies concerning library application service that cast a long shadow over the life of students and citizens still lacking in many ways. This study evaluates user experience of Young-in Si public library application service, and investigates user requirements. I searched the real user reviews about Young-in Si library application both App store and Android market. As the final outcome, I found inconveniences and improvements of this service. The application is intuitive, but requires consistent design, strong identity and customizing main page. It will be suggested specific guidelines for the public library mobile services in other areas.

Based on the current status of use of L-Commerce installed in the Yongsan Public Library and Mapo Lifelong Learning Center, this study suggested the direction of spatial design for the public library's makerspace with L-Commons model. To this end, we investigated the literature research on library makerspaces and the case studies of makerspaces installed in 25 public libraries in Korea and 18 public libraries in the US. And In-depth interviews and user surveys were conducted. The public library makerspace presented through this study should be an open space where everyone in the community can easily enter, break down barriers between all classes in the region, and lead to smooth communication. Second, it should be a learning, cooperation, and creative space where resources can be shared and cooperation for creative activities and projects can be carried out. Third, it should be a creative workspace where community members can turn ideas into physical things that anyone can't do elsewhere or work on something interesting.

This research empirically analyzed the effect of information sharing through the use of public libraries on the construction and consolidation of social capital of individuals. Through the survey targeting public library users, it was identified that the frequency of public library use and the participation of public library programs have positive effect on the recognition of information sharing and the reliability of information shared. In addition, information sharing among people became more active when public libraries mediate their information activities. This public library-mediated information sharing positively affects the construction of structural and relational social capital. In contrast, it does not have significant meaning on the construction of cognitive social capital, which means that information sharing and the use of public library relatively concentrate on satisfying personal information needs.

Public libraries have been facing new challenges as the number of channels providing information resources has been increasing due to information and communication technology development. The perception of public libraries of the general public is that they should continue to play a substantial role in information services. However, the libraries' environments are changing, and the public's needs are diversifying, so public libraries also need to differentiate themselves from other organizations that provide similar services. This paper proposes branding as a solution to create differentiation. The study conducted a questionnaire survey with Koreans in their 20s. A series of statistical tests with the survey data showed the impact of the brand association elements on customer satisfaction and brand loyalty and identified unique factors in public libraries. For example, Brand associations such as material-based services, benefits, and attitude affected both dependent variables. On the other hand, the non-product association such as space/place images did not. Based on these findings, we provided implications for introducing branding in public libraries.

The purpose of this study was to examine the operation status of digital literacy programs for the elderly in public libraries and to understand the perception of librarians in charge of the programs in order to suggest plans to improve them in Korean public libraries. To this end, this study performed the following: first, the status of digital literacy programs in 157 public libraries across Korea was examined and analyzed. Second, digital literacy programs provided for older adults by overseas public libraries were explored. Third, an online survey was conducted with 92 librarians in charge of library programs at Korean public libraries. Based on the results, this study suggested plans to improve older adults' digital literacy programs in public libraries in terms of operational and content aspects. This study is expected to provide basic data for the operation of older adults' digital literacy programs in Korean public libraries.

This study analyzes various recent aspects of intellectual freedom restrictions in the domestic libraries, identifies difficulties facing librarians in the field, and suggests countermeasures. Specifically, we conducted literature research, including the definition and declaration of library intellectual freedom in core documents by domestic and international expert groups, the background of selection of 'Nadaum Children's Book', which is at the center of controversy, and analysis of previous research. Next, we investigated the patterns of intellectual freedom restrictions committed in libraries, difficulties encountered in the field, and cases of response at the individual library level among librarians. In addition, we surveyed the level of perception in the field about countermeasures against intellectual freedom restrictions at the level of associations and expert groups and future plans to guarantee intellectual freedom. Finally, based on this, countermeasures against restrictions of intellectual freedom were proposed at the level of the National Library Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, associations and expert groups, and individual libraries.

School Library is both a space and a place. The difference between space and place is the same as in the difference between house and home. Space may be described in terms of physical shape. Place is concept that formulated by personal experience. The social and cognitive developmental stages of elementary, middle and high school students are different, so the placeness or sense of place may be different. The purpose of this study is to figure out the differences in elementary and secondary school student's formative factors of placeness and examine the process that those factors are connected to the results of the user behavioral intentions through the medium of place attachment, place value perception. The data are collected from 590 students and analyzed by SPSS 19 and AMOS 19. The results of this study are as follows. The physical, active behavioral and psychological factors affect on placeness formation of elementary and secondary school students in school libraries. Elementary school students are significantly affected more by physical factors, active behavioral factors than middle and high school students. This study confirmed the process that those factors are connected to the results of the user behavior through the medium of place attachment, place value perception.

This study intends to investigate how many LIS students take a interest in cultural programs offered by local libraries, and whether such a interest leads to actual participation in cultural programs. To the end, surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted on 2nd and 3rd year students from department of Library and Information Science in Busan. The result of this study shows low participation and passive attitude, even though LIS students fully recognize the importance of cultural programs in local libraries. The final suggestions include both educational strategies and practical guidance which might be helpful to attract voluntary participation from prospective librarians and to promote absorption of domain knowledge.
