User education in academic libraries can be traced back to the beginning of the education for librarianship in late 19th century. Since then, perspectives in library user education and the perceptions of researchers and practitioners have changed due to new technologies. Recent literature in this field illustrates wide variety of concerns and issues of user education in academic libraries. This paper attempts to highlight such issues and perceptions regrading the subject. It suggests that some fundamental features of LIS education require attention. Suggestions are outlined along with the strong recommendations in terms of the importance of critical thinking and reading, user education as a tool of library promotion, and the politics of academic library user education.

도서관에 대한 올바른 이용과 이해는 초등학교에서부터 출발해야 한다. 도서관 이용 교육은 국가 수준의 교육과정에서 인정받는 것이 중요할 뿐만 아니라 정규 교과서에 반영하여 교과 수업 시간에 지도할 수 있도록 하여야 한다. 일본은 문부과학성에서 고시한 ‘학습지도요령’에 의거 국어 교과서에 다각적인 도서관 이용 교육을 실시하고 있다. 본 연구는 일본의 소학교 국어 교과서에 반영된 도서관 이용 교육을 분석하여 앞으로 우리 나라 초등학교 국어 교과서 개발에 참고 자료가 되고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to develop a model for information literacy instruction far a university library. It surveyed and analyzed Information Literacy Competency Standards and four Information Problem-Solving Process Models. Through the investigation, this study found out the crucial six elements of information literacy instruction. It includes 1) Information need; 2) Information source; 3) Information seeking; 4) Information evaluation; 5) Information use; and 6) Information ethics. Based on the analysis of the information literacy tutorial of 3 university libraries in the States and Australia, special concerns were paid on investigating the contents of instruction programs. This study proposed the model of information literacy instruction of the university library as a result. It consists of eight steps such as 1) Guide of library facility; 2) Information ecology-the flow of academic information; 3) Information needs-Define the topic; 4) Determine the information sources; 5) Plan the search strategy; 6) Search information; 7) Evaluate Information; and 8) style manual. It is suggested to develop and to improve the information literacy instruction programs in university libraries.

Recently. Web-based library instruction is incomplete in domestic situation. The purpose of this study is to present the design criteria of web-based library instruction programs. This study draws elements of synthetic criteria that are analyzed by evaluation criteria of web site and web-based library instruction, and compares and analyzes web-based library instruction programs.

This study examined whether there is any difference in the public library patrons' library uses depending on their participation in the educational and cultural programs of such libraries. Additional analysis was conducted to determine if the particular educational and cultural program participants' showed any consistent library use patterns. The statistical analysis of such program offerings and the patron survey data resulted in the findings such as that there were statistically significant differences in how the patrons' used the libraries, the number of library resources borrowed, and the frequency of library websites and/or mobile applications used based on their participation in the educational and cultural programs and also the types of programs that they attended.

It's been taken a profound interest in the user eduction of the children's libraries, as they have taken the conveniences, resources, children's librarians after 2000. The purpose of this study is to consider whether the children's library can use the story-telling in library use education, to develop the instructional model based on the story-telling method for children, users in children's libraries. After all, it's reviewed to understand the concept and principle of story-telling method, to consider whether the method can be adopted to the user education in children's libraries, and to propose the instructional model based on the story-telling. The result of this study will give the good examples for the user education, especially the planning of user education in children's libraries and public libraries in Korea.

This study Performed five weeks' education on library use as a regular cultural subject at the target on university students and analyzed the difference in their library anxiety between Pre-education and Post-education as well as the difference in educational effectiveness based on the frequency of library use. The result intends to Present the result for basic materials which aye necessary for promoting the education on library use. The object of study selected the university freshmen. located in Gyeonggi-do, taking a lessen of cultural essential subjects. The education contents on library use were the understanding of library organization and function, the structure of library materials, the kind and use of academic information, the citation of materials, the description of bibliography, and the copyright in a library. The study methods applied in the study, were literature researches and two-times' questionnaire surveys in the first week of the education and the last week of that. Total 92 materials were applied for this study. This study performed faired t-test and independent t-test. As a result, four factors of six ones on library anxiety were selected in the verification of hypotheses after performing an education on university students' library use. In addition, the difference in education effectiveness based on university students' library use frequency was excluded in the course of hypothesis verification on six factors or library anxiety.

The purpose of this study was to provide practical support methods of the library education and cultural programs for people with physical disabilities through the qualitative investigation. To collect data, focus group and individual interviews were conducted. Fourteen people with physical disabilities and six parents were interviewed. From the qualitative analysis, three themes and thirteen subthemes were emerged: (1) cognition about library, (2) difficulties of using the library, (3) support methods for activating library use. Finally, discussions, implications and future directions of library education and cultural programs for people with physical disabilities were presented based on the results of the study. We expect that this research can serve as a basis for further effort to develop library education and cultural programs suited for the unique needs of people with physical disabilities.
