The most realistic way to reduce noise outside the building, such as road traffic noise and aircraft noise, is to strengthen the sound insulation performance at the sound collecting points such as balconies, windows, and exterior walls of each building. However, in light of the reality that shading devices outside buildings are not yet widely used, there are not many studies on sound insulation performance improvement using external windows and window devices such as louvers and blinds. In particular, external blinds can not only block the inflow of strong sunlight in the morning and evening from the outside of the building, but also target the sound insulation effect that blocks the peak noise that occurs during commuting hours. In this study, a study was conducted to improve sound insulation performance against external noise by using an external electric blind (EEB), which is one of the most efficient window and door external shading devices. Various sound insulation performance tests were conducted while changing the configuration of external electric blinds developed for light blocking purposes. Through this, it was verified that an additional sound insulation performance of 6 dB can be obtained by installing an external electric blind compared to the reduction performance of general windows.

Friction coefficients of the prestressing tendon are the basic information required to control the prestressing force introduced to PSC structure during jacking. However, the friction coefficients show considerable differences depending on the specifications, causing much confusion to designers. In this study, the ranges of the friction coefficients presented in domestic and foreign specifications are compared together to clarify the differences. Then, a procedure is proposed that can be used to estimate the wobble and curvature friction coefficients from field data such as elongation and prestressing force and from theory related to the friction. The procedure is applied to various tendon profiles of several PSC bridges constructed by ILM, FCM and MSS. The resulting values are compared with those presented in some specifications and assumed in jacking and a reasonable range of the friction coefficient is discussed. Lift-off tests are also performed in some bridges to further verify the results. The resulting wobble friction coefficients are not as small as those presented in AASHTO specifications but range from the lower limit to mid point of domestic specifications, while the curvature friction coefficients approach or slightly exceed the upper limit.

This study improved the existing method of using the longitudinal strain and concept of influence line to develop Bridge Weigh-in-Motion system without axle detector using the dynamic strain of the bridge girders and concrete slab. This paper first describes the considered algorithms of extracting passing vehicle information from the dynamic strain signal measured at the bridge slab, girders, and cross beams. Two different analysis methods of 1) influence line method, and 2) neural network method are considered, and parameter study of measurement locations is also performed. Then the procedures and the results of field tests are described. The field tests are performed to acquire training sets and test sets for neural networks, and also to verify and compare performances of the considered algorithms. Finally, comparison between the results of different algorithms and discussions are followed. For a PSC I-girder bridge, vehicle weight can be calculated within a reasonable error range using the dynamic strain gauge installed on the girders. The passing lane and passing speed of the vehicle can be accurately estimated using the strain signal from the concrete slab. The passing speed and peak duration were added to the input variables to reflect the influence of the dynamic interaction between the bridge and vehicles, and impact of the distance between axles, respectively; thus improving the accuracy of the weight calculation.
The purpose of this study is to review the previous studies on the safety problems in Korea and to propose a psychological total safety system model. The model consisted of four agents; the government as the safety management agent, the suppliers of safety goods and services, consumer of safety goods and services, and civil movement institutions for safety. It was emphasized that the culture specific social representations of safety and accident have emerged in the course of rapid industrialization process in Korea during last 30 years. We delineated the social representations of the Korean people on safety and accident according to the model. A psychological analysis of drinking and driving behavior was performed as an application of the model. It was emphasized that safety psychologists have to develope and to apply the knowledge and the information from human engineering psychology and applied social psychology on safety and accidents.

In this study, we propose a machine vision-based pedestrian signal detection algorithm that operates efficiently even in computing resource-constrained environments. This algorithm demonstrates high efficiency within limited resources and is designed to minimize the impact of ambient lighting by sequentially applying HSV color space-based image processing, binarization, morphological operations, labeling, and other steps to address issues such as light glare. Particularly, this algorithm is structured in a relatively simple form to ensure smooth operation within embedded system environments, considering the limitations of computing resources. Consequently, it possesses a structure that operates reliably even in environments with low computing resources. Moreover, the proposed pedestrian signal system not only includes pedestrian signal detection capabilities but also incorporates IoT functionality, allowing wireless integration with a web server. This integration enables users to conveniently monitor and control the status of the signal system through the web server. Additionally, successful implementation has been achieved for effectively controlling 50W LED pedestrian signals. This proposed system aims to provide a rapid and efficient pedestrian signal detection and control system within resource-constrained environments, contemplating its potential applicability in real-world road scenarios. Anticipated contributions include fostering the establishment of safer and more intelligent traffic systems.

Rockbolts are the primary-supports in NATM tunnels and are widely used at tunnel construction sites. Among the rockbolts methods applied in domestic tunnel design, fully grouted rockbolts are the most representative and frequently used. Fully grouted rockbolts exhibit relative behavior between the bolt and the ground due to the grout material. However, during numerical analysis for tunnel design, fully grouted rockbolts are often modeled in a way that does not reflect their behavior characteristics. This may result in underestimating or overestimating the force of the supports. Based on a literature review, it was analyzed that fully grouted rockbolts are modeled using truss element or cable element. To analyze the effect of grout properties of cable elements on rockbolts behavior, this paper compared the behavior of rockbolts in two models: one estimating grout properties based on rockbolt pull-out test data, and another assuming complete adhesion between the rockbolts and the ground by applying large grout properties. Under identical tunnel conditions, the numerical analysis was conducted by modeling the fully grouted rockbolts differently using truss and cable elements, and the tunnel behavior was analyzed. The research results suggest that modeling fully grouted rockbolts as a function of the interface effect between the bolts and the ground, specifically considering grout, is desirable. The use of pull-out test data to simulate the behavior of actual fully grouted rockbolts was considered as a valid approach.

Single-shell tunnels, introduced to South Korea in the early 2000s, have not been adopted for the main tunnels of roads or railways over the past two decades despite several attempts starting with the Gwangju City Bypass. This reluctance likely arises from concerns about the long-term performance of supporting materials and the absence of relevant criteria and specifications. However, recent progress, including the incorporation of high-strength shotcrete standards and corrosion-resistant rock bolt specifications, alongside equipment and technique enhancements, necessitates a reassessment of single-shell tunnels. While the single-shell tunnel method offers advantages in environmental impact, construction cost and period compared to the conventional NATM, it is crucial to address the challenges, such as limited design and construction experience, incomplete detailed standards, and insufficient construction specifications, through further research and pilot projects. This paper reviewed the basic principles of single-shell tunnel, current application and research status, technical development trends, criteria and specifications, and remaining challenges. It aims to reignite discussions on the feasibility of applying single-shell tunnels in South Korea.

This study investigated the fire resistance of RC columns applying Fiber addition method, Fire board attaching method, and Fire proof sparying method. The results were summarized as following. The test showed that increase of fiber content, as expected, decreased the fluidity of fresh concrete, but for the types of fiber, the specimens containing nylon(NY) was favorable. The incline of fiber content also affected on the air content of concrete, which the specimens adding polypropylene(PP) fiber was the lowest, followed by a less decrease in polyvinyl alchhol(PVA) and then NY respectively. For the compressive strength at 28days, it was over 50MPa and showed slight increasing tendency by rising fiber contents. After the fire test completed, control concrete exhibited the severe demage, while the specimens containing more than 0.05vol.% of PP and NY was able to protect from spalling. In the case of splay, the partly spalling occurred at the all finishing material, however the RC columns were protected from spalling. For the methods attached with boards, all RC columns were protected except the dry attaching method. The reduced weight ratio was favorable because it was below 8 % except for plain concrete.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the impact of unmanned aerial vehicle service and how to activate it. The discussion on the impact of the introduction of the unmanned aerial vehicle service was examined in terms of economic, environmental, and social acceptance, and a plan to revitalize the industry was presented. In terms of economic impact, if transportation services are increased using unmanned aerial vehicles in the future, road-based transportation cargo may decrease and road movement speed may increase due to reduced road congestion. This can have a positive effect on the increase in the value of land or real estate assets, and it also provides an impact on smart city design. In terms of environmental impact, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) generally move through electricity, so they emit less exhaust gas compared to other existing devices, such as vehicles and railroads, and thus have less environmental impact. However, noise can have a negative impact on the habitat in the presence of wild animals along their migration routes. In terms of social acceptability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) technology, areas that are declining due to the emergence of new services may appear, and at the same time, organizations that create profits may appear, causing conflicts between industries. Therefore, it is essential to form a social consensus on the acceptance of emerging industries. The government should come up with various countermeasures to minimize the negative impact that reflects the characteristics of the unmanned aerial vehicle use service. Just as various systems such as road signs were introduced so that vehicles can be operated on the ground to secure air routes in the mid- to long-term for revitalization of unmanned-based industries, development and establishment of services that should be introduced and applied prior to constructing air routes I need this. In addition, the design and implementation of information collection and operation plans for unmanned air traffic management in Korea and a plan to secure a control system for each region should also be made. This study can contribute to providing ideas for mid- to long-term research on new areas with the development of the unmanned aerial vehicle industry.
WAVE(Wireless Access for Vehicular Environment) is new concepts and Vehicles communications technology using for ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems) service by IEEE standard 802.11p. Also it increases the efficiency and safety of the traffic on the road. However, the efficiency of Scrambler bit computational algorithms of OFDM modulation in WAVE systems will fall as it is not able to process in parallel in terms of hardware and software. This paper proposes an algorithm to configure 64-bits matrix table in scambler bit computation as well as an algorithm to compute 64-bits matrix table and input data in parallel. The proposed algorithm on this thesis is executed using 64-bits matrix table. In the result, the processing speed for 1 and 1000 times is improved about 40.08% ~ 40.27% and processing rate per sec is performed more than 468.35 compared to bit operation scramble. And processing speed for 1 and 1000 times is improved about 7.53% ~ 7.84% and processing rate per sec is performed more than 91.44 compared to 32-bits operation scramble. Therefore, if the 64 bit-CPU is used for 64-bits executable scramble algorithm, it is improved more than 40% compare to 32-bits scrambler.
