  • This essay is an analysis on Daoist deconstructivism and Confucian constructivism about music and language. (1) Daoist criticizes that the Confucian constructive music and language fail to describe original sounds and original facts of doing nothing (wuwei, 無爲). According to Daoist, music and language can be an instrument to describe true facts in the world. So Daoists try to attain a state of 'seeing things as things themselves (yiwuguanwu, 以物觀物)' by 'forgetting oneself (wangwo, 忘我).' (2) However Confucian music and language is a part of one's life. Confucians try to get truth, goodness, and beauty by exercising one's music and language. Confucian music is associated with political and moral development in society. The Confucian genres of poetry (shi, 詩), appealing letter (shu, 疏), declaring writing (biao, 表), record (ji, 記), and written words (ci, 詞) are processes of developing one's life. Further, Confucian rhetoric of 'Xing (興)' in writing poem shows that one's language can be developed in contexts of one's life. (3) Although music and language is associated with human subjective narratives as if Confucians say, diverse narratives of different subjectivity cannot appear in one's lives if all kinds of narrative is absorbed in Confucian absolute ideological slogan to devide things into good and bad. Accordingly, the Confucian view of music and language can develop diverse narratives when it does not show an inclination toward moral dichotomy preunderstood by Confucian ideology.

For this purpose, we surveyed the elder using the senior health town of Gwang-ju Metropolitan City to see whether the quality of life in the elder is influenced by factors such as facilities' environment within the health town, the capacity for the staff and instructors, and the elders' satisfaction with programs. The results of this study are expected to provide practical solutions for enhancing the quality of life in senior users. The survey was performed with 1,038 elders aged over 60 who were using the senior health town of Gwang-ju Metropolitan City by using a self-administered questionnaire and being interviewed with surveyors. The period of the survey was from the 10th to 15th of December, 2010. According to the results of this study, variables affecting the elders' quality of life were academic qualification (B= .074, p<0.05), instructors satisfaction (B=.172, p<0.001), staff satisfaction (B=.104, p<0.01), and facilities and environment satisfaction (B=.217, p<0.001). That is, the lower academic background they have, the higher instructors', staff's, facilities and environment's satisfaction are, the quality of life in the elder was positively affected. • This study was conducted to empirically analyze the effect of life behavior and socio-environmental satisfaction on life satisfaction of the elderly with or without hearing loss. To this end, 3,071 elderly people of 「the Survey on the Actual Condition of the Elderly」 in 2020 were set as the subjects. After controlling for their demographic variables, the multiple regression model showed that the elderly with hearing loss had different factors of life behavior and socio-environment satisfaction that affected their life satisfaction compared to those without. As a result, the sub-factors of life behavior in the elderly with hearing loss, such as economic activities, social group activities, the use of the center, and the sub-factors of social environment satisfaction, such as family satisfaction and environmental satisfaction, had a positive (+) effect on life satisfaction. Especially, the elderly with hearing loss had more limitations in both the area of living behavior and the area of social environment satisfaction than the elderly without hearing loss. Therefore, in order to improve the life satisfaction of the elderly with hearing loss, it is suggested that the government and local governments should simultaneously supplement welfare policies and facilities for the elderly with hearing loss.

  • The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of subjective quality of life in middle-aged men. The participants were 493 middle-aged men. Data were collected from September 10 to October 31, 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0. Self-esteem, social support, family communication showed direct and indirect effect on subjective quality of life for middle-aged married men, and job satisfaction showed a direct effect on subjective quality of life. The structural regression model of middle-aged men's subjective quality of life was a good fit with the model.
