Creation of Vector Network Data with Considering Terrain Gradient for Analyzing Optimal Haulage Routes of Dump Trucks in Open Pit Mines (노천광산 덤프트럭의 최적 운반경로 분석을 위한 지형경사가 고려된 벡터 네트워크 자료의 생성 방법)

  • Previous studies for analyzing optimal haulage routes of dump trucks in open pit mines mostly used raster data. However, the raster data has several problems in performing optimal route analyses: (1) the jagged appearance of haulage roads according the cell resolution often causes overestimation of the travel cost; (2) it difficult to trace the topological relationships among haulage roads. These problems can be eliminated by using vector network data, however a new method is required to reflect the performance characteristics of a dump truck according to terrain gradient changes. This study presents a new method to create vector network data with the consideration of terrain gradient for analyzing optimal haulage routes of dump trucks in open pit mines. It consists of four procedures: (a) creating digital elevation models, (b) digitizing haulage road networks, (c) calculating the terrain gradient of haulage roads, and (d) calculating the average speed and travel time of a dump truck along haulage roads. A simple case study at the Roto South pit in the Pasir open pit coal mine, Indonesia is also presented to provide proof that the proposed method is easily compatible to ArcGIS Network Analyst software and is effective in finding optimal haulage routes of dump trucks with considering terrain gradient in open pit mines.

Structural Analysis of the Deck of a Dump Truck Based on Bulk Material Behavior using the Discrete Element Method (이산요소법을 이용한 벌크 재료 시뮬레이션에 의한 덤프 트럭 데크 하중산출에 대한 연구)

  • To reduce fuel consumption by reducing the weight of the deck of a dump truck and to design an eco-friendly deck, accurate structural analysis is required. To date, the load on the deck has been calculated based on the hydrostatic pressure or by applying the earth pressure theory. However, these methods cannot be used to determine the non-uniformity of the load on the deck. Load distribution varies depending on the size distribution and interaction of aggregate particles. Compared with the finite element method, the discrete element method can simulate the behavior of aggregate particles more effectively. In this study, major properties were obtained by measuring bulk density and repose. The deck of a 15 ton dump truck was simulated using the obtained properties and bumping, breaking, and turning load conditions were applied. EDEM, which is a discrete element analysis software, was employed. The stress and strain distribution of the deck were calculated by NASTRAN and compared with the measured values. The study revealed that the results derived from a DEM simulation were more accurate than those based on mathematical assumption.

  • In many construction projects, such as dams, highways, airports, buildings, industrial plants, and sewerage and drainage systems earthmoving operation is defined the movements of a certain quantity of earth to alter the surface configuration or conditions so that projects requirement can be met. Accurate calculation of travel time is essential for determining productivity of earthmoving operations, and for ultimately selecting the most cost-effective fleet configuration for executing the work. Also transportation work that utilizes dump truck consists average So in the whole expenses earthmoving operation, and is an important cost factor for cost management. Therefore this study proposes a methodology for optimum transfer speen based on the analysis of factors affecting earthmoving operation in different road types by collecting the sources of dump truck running speeds and considering the main factors affecting the earthmoving operation.

  • 독일의 건설업자였던 마겐스(J. H. Margens)가 1903년 스타른베르그(Starnberg)에 레미콘 플랜트를 건설하고 레미콘의 제조 특허를 받은 것을 레미콘 산업의 시작으로 본다. 미국에서는 독일보다 10년 늦은 1913년 메릴랜드(Mary-land)주의 볼티모어(Baltimore)시에 플랜트의 고정 믹서로 혼합한 다음 운반하는 중앙혼합방식(central mixing system)의 레미콘 플랜트가 건설되었다. 그러나 이때는 플랜트에서 혼합하여 덤프트럭으로 운반하는 방식이었기 때문에 품질문제가 발생할 수 있어 크게 환영을 받지 못하다가 1926년에 이르러 트럭믹서의 발명으로 레미콘 산업발전의 큰 계기를 마련하였다. 초기부터 미국의 경우는 공급지역이 넓은 특징이 있어 플랜트에서 재료만 계량하여 트럭믹서에 적재하여 운반 중에 혼합하는 트랜싯 믹싱방식(transit mixing system)이 성행해 왔다.(중략)

A Study on the Dynamic Wheel Loads of 3-D Vehicle Model Considering Tire Enveloping (타이어 접지폭을 고려한 3차원 차량모델에 의한 동적 차륜하중에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, research for dynamic wheel loads of 3-D vehicle model considering tire enveloping model is carried out. Heavy trucks with 2-axles and 3-axles are modeled by 7-d.o.f. and 8-d.o.f., in which contact length of tire and pitching of tandem spring axles is considered. Dynamic equations of vehicle are derived by using the Lagrange's equation and solution of the equation is calculated by 5th Runge-Kutter method. The validity of the developed 3-D vehicle model is demonstrated by comparing the results obtained by the present method and experimental data by Whittemore. The maximum impact factors of tire force are calculated when vehicle models of 8ton and 15ton dump truck are running on the different class roads with 1.0km and on the various step bump.

  • This study presents a geographic information system based dump truck route exploring system (DRES) which provides construction managers and hauling operators with efficient route information that can improve earthmoving productivity by reducing hauling time. The system is comprised of Network Analyst from Esri as a route exploring engine and a network data model. The network data model includes information on weight limit of bridges, height limit of pedestrian overpasses, and one way that impedes dump trucks' hauling efficiency. A construction manager is expected to input origin and destination point in the user interface, and the system generates an efficient route that avoids bridges with weight limit or pedestrian overpasses with height limit. The system was applied to a real earthmoving project to test its applicability, and it was found that the system functions as intended.

  • Heavy equipment is a very important factor for successful construction implementation. Also, the cost for heavy equipment is a major part of construction cost. Therefore, the estimation of equipment cost is a critical job in the construction planning phase. A formula for production rates shown in 'Standard Unit Labor' has been used to estimate construction equipment capability per hour and cost. Although the performance of equipment has been improved, the efficiency rates in the formula are not updated lately. Therefore, this research performed several site visits to measure construction equipment working time and then calculates the efficiency rates for hydraulic backhoe, loader, and dump truck. The results show that the measured efficiencies of backhoe and loader are higher than current ones and vice versa for dump truck. This research proposes the needs for a standardized calculation formula and systematic and long-term data collection and measurement for updating efficiency rates for heavy equipment.

  • The low frequency noise, including infra-sound is known to affect human physiology and psychology. Guidelines and measurement method of low frequency noise has been introduced in several countries in order to evaluate low frequency noise. In this work, low frequency noise characteristics of dump truck was investigated in terms of the noise level and spectrum. The interior sound pressure level of the dump truck was between 60 and 105 dB in the frequency range of $1{\sim}250$ Hz.

  • This study presents a method to calculate carbon dioxide emissions of diesel vehicles operated in an underground mine using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). An underground limestone mine in Korea was selected as the study area. A GIS database was constructed to represent the haulage roads as a 3D vector network. The speed of dump trucks at each haulage road was investigated to determine the carbon dioxide emission factor. The amount of carbon dioxide emissions related to the truck's haulage work could be calculated by considering the carbon dioxide emission factor at each haulage road and the haulage distance determined by GIS-based optimal route analysis. Because diesel vehicles are widely utilized in the mining industry, the method proposed in this study can be used and further improved to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in mining sites.

  • This study establishes the model to estimate a work time and a machine equipment combination in a NATM tunnel. Also it includes the increasing rate of haulage distance in the model for to make near to reality model. A simulation model focuses on the mucking process which affects the work effectiveness very highly to plan of machine use in tunneling operation. With the analysis of work effectiveness through tunnel simulation model, it is defined the problem of planning phase. Also it shows the optimal working time and efficiency of machine used through change the number of dump truck and haulage distance.
