세계 항공기산업 동향과 전망

  • 세계 항공기산업은 새로운 기술과 새로운 전략, 이른바 ‘차세대’라는 단어로 대변될 수 있는 다음세대를 위한 개발과 전략의 변화를 겪고 있다. 먼저 군용기의 경우 미국의 F-35가 첫 선을 보이면서 차세대 전투기의 새장을 열어가고 있으며 우리나라 역시 T-50/A-50, 한국형헬리콥터(KHP)개발, 조기경보기 도입 등 공군력 강화를 위한 준비들이 단계적으로 이루어지고 있어 그에 따른 산업발전이 기대되고 있다. 민간 항공기를 살펴보면 A-380과 같은 대형 항공기 개발 추세와 A320과 B737과 같은 Narrow-body 항공기 생산이 증가하는 양상을 보이고 있다. 또한 개인용 소형제트기(VLJ)와 같은 항공기들은 차세대 틈새시장(niche market)을 형성, 발전가능성을 열어가고 있다. 민간항공기의 향후 생산전망을 살펴보면, 대형여객기의 경우 2015년까지 총 7,900여대로 연평균 800여대의 생산이 이루질 전망이며 헬리콥터의 경우 연평균 1,870여대로 총 18,730여대의 헬리콥터가 생산될 전망으로 약 1,200억불의 시장을 형성할 것으로 전망되고 있다. 이렇듯 군용기 시장에서는 차세대의 첨단 항공기 개발과 양산이 가시화되고 있으며 민간항공기의 경우, 특정 세분시장(market segment)의 주도적 개발과 양산보다는 비즈니스 환경의 변화와 고객층의 다양화로 인해 각 시장의 고객 니즈(needs)에 부합되는 다양한 항공기 개발과 양산이 이루어질 것으로 보인다.

Comparison of Development and Marketing Strategies of Airbus and Boeing (에어버스와 보잉사의 대형민간항공기 개발 및 마케팅 전략 비교 연구)

  • For the next two decades the civil aviation industry is expected to grow. Both Airbus and Boeing predict a delivery of almost 20,000 new Large Civil Aircraft (LCA). LCA is defined as a large civil jet aircraft with 100 seats or more. Airbus offers the Superjumbo, A380 (>555 seats), while Boeing presents the Dreamliner, B787 (200 – 300 seats). Their philosophies are very different. In the wake of B787, Airbus intends to offer a new aircraft, A350, as the competitor against B787, with the same engines developed for B787. The U.S. government pushed by Boeing, on the day of October 6, 2004, filed a suit against Airbus for wrongful subsidy to the World Trade Organization (WTO). A brief overview is given on the LCA development status in the world commercial aircraft market. Since there have been little changes in engine and avionics manufacturers in the LCA industry, the airframe area only is the object of this study. An analysis is carried out to find out the differences in development and marketing strategies of two major LCA manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing. The authors predict that Boeing will recapture its No. 1 position soon, while the leading edge in technology may be slipped away from Boeing.

  • The Fly-By-Wire system was first applied to the fighter and its inherent advantages lead to the advent of the Fly-By-Wire civil aircraft. Recently even the small jet aircraft shows the trend of adopting the Fly-By-Wire system. In the future, most of the aircraft are expected to be the Fly-By-Wire type. In this paper, the structure and the characteristics of the Fly-By-Wire system applied to the civil aircraft was described. The development trend of the redundant method of the flight control system, data communication system, control surface actuation system and the control laws implemented by the Fly-By-Wire system of the civil aircraft are discussed.

  • In 2021, Virgin Orbit converted a 747-400 aircraft into an air launch platform, and successfully launched it twice in February and July. Compared to the existing ground launch, interest in the air launch is increasing due to its great utility, such as its independence from the launch location or weather, cost reducing factor, shorter launch preparation time, and its benefit pursuant to altitude and speed. Additionally, as small satellites have similar performance to mid/large satellites in the past due to the miniaturization and precision of electronic equipment, small satellite launches are expected to dominate in the future. In this paper, institutional certification methods such as domestic, overseas, civilian and military airworthiness certification regulations/procedures are reviewed to ensure flight safety of aerial projectiles using large domestic civil aircraft, and applicable civil and military airworthiness certification technology standards are reviewed and analyzed. Additionally, we will review and suggest effective airworthiness certification application plans that reflect the reality, and present airworthiness certification standards (draft) for aerial launch vehicles, by analyzing applicable airworthiness certification technical standards when remodeling aerial launch vehicles.

  • In the end of 1990's, future free flight technology had been developed and tested in America and government established the plan for free flight until 2017. Aircraft separation assurance must be secured essentially to avoid collision between aircrafts before Free Flight comes true. Now, Civil aircraft has rules about avoidance activity with traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) but it can't apply to light aircraft. So there is a need about alternative method to apply light-aircraft because it has space and price problem to use TCAS. In this paper, TCAS algorithm has been modified and verified by simulating with LABVIEW program under ADS-B condition to get miniaturization and weight lighting cheaply. By simulating, collision alert algorithm is analyzed and verified with collision situation proposed by ICAO, and 100% checked for performing the alert announciation on all cases by TCAS standards.

  • While the numbers of overseas travelers has been increased rapidly each year, the numbers of passengers in the aircraft also has continued to be increased gradually. In the mist of these increasing numbers, such accidents as threatening an aircraft safety like riot, aircraft hijacking and terrorism have happened constantly. In these circumstances, South Korean government has prescribed "Aviation on Security Act" in accordance with the Convention on International Civil Aviation and other international agreements. This act aims to prevent illegal activities and illegal items on the aircraft to ensure the safety and security of civil aviation. However, this act is not sufficiently regulating all the illegal crimes and illegal items on the flight. For the worse, there is a lack of effective supervisory capacity. Likewise, the inherent problems of the current laws relating to the prevention of the illegal items on the aircraft are appearing on the surface continually. Above all, illegal items on the aircraft are directly connected to the issue of aviation safety and security as well as a safe utilization of the flight service. Thus, when there occurs a serious accident on board, it surely would be led to a huge economic loss not mentioning the loss of lives following the accident. Therefore safety of the flight passengers cannot be guaranteed without ensuring the safety of aircraft facilities and good supervisory mechanism of illegal items on the aircraft. Accordingly, establishing a safe operation order tends to influence economy and tourism of a country in no small measure. Therefore, it is an urgent issue to settle down a reasonable and adequate supervisory regulations regarding the prevention of the illegal items on the aircraft. Consequently, in this article, I studied on a reasonal and effective mechanism to control the prevention of the illegal items and illegal acts on the aircraft in order to ensure a safety and security of civil aircraft.

Plant Locations and Production Networks of the European Civil Aviation Industry: Focus on the Airbus (유럽 민간 항공산업의 생산입지와 생산네트워크: Airbus를 사례로)

  • The European civil aviation industry, which had lower technical skills, capital strength and market scale than the U.S., adopted the production system of joint development and division labor between the nations of Europe. Each plant locations strengthened their specialization of the production branch in the past 40 years with a geographical accumulation of the specialized manufacturing facilities, suppliers, universities and laboratories by the logic of geographical proximity and learning effect. The cargo plane transportation system in the production of short- and medium-haul aircraft facilitated the geographical dispersion of manufacturing process and the logistical linkage among the various plant locations. But the production of long-haul large aircraft(A380) chosen the transportation system by the cargo ship because of the size and weight. Considering the transportation system by the cargo ship, the choice of Toulouse as a final assembly plant location was the irrational locational decision from a locational point of view. This locational choice is explained by the merging process of the European civil aviation industry, the logic of learning effect and geographical proximity, and the active attraction support policy.

A Legal Study on Safety Management System (항공안전관리에 관한 법적 고찰)

  • Safety Management System is the aviation industry policy for while operating the aircraft, to ensure the safety crew, aircraft and passengers. For operating a safe aircraft, in order to establish the international technical standards, the International Civil Aviation Organization has established the Annex 19 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. As a result, member country was supposed to be in accordance with the policy of the International Civil Aviation Organization, to accept the international standard of domestic air law. The South Korean government announced that it would promote active safety management strategy in primary aviation policy master plan of 2012. And, by integrating and state safety programmes(ssp) and safety management system(sms) for the safe management of Annex 19 is to enforce the policy on aviation safety standards. State safety programmes(ssp) is a system of activities for the aim of strengthening the safety and integrated management of the activities of government. State safety programmes(ssp) is important on the basis of the data of the risk information. Collecting aviation hazard information is necessary for efficient operation of the state safety programmes(ssp) Korean government must implement the strategy required to comply with aviation methods and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Airlines, must strive to safety features for safety culture construction and improvement of safety management is realized. It is necessary to make regulations on the basis of the aviation practice, for aviation safety regulatory requirements, aviation safety should reflect the opinion of the aviation industry.
