A study on the storage performance of gabion weir for the supply of raw water for artificial recharge (대수층함양 원수공급을 위한 돌망태 취수보의 저류성능)

  • 하천수의 수심을 유지하기 위하여 설치된 콘크리트 취수보 대신 강자갈이나 쇄석을 채움재로 하는 돌망태를 사용하게 되면 토사퇴적으로 인한 건천화나 상, 하류 수생태계 단절과 같은 문제를 어느 정도 감소시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 자갈접촉산화작용에 의한 수질개선과 공사비 절감 효과 등의 장점이 있다. 그러나 돌망태는 투수성이므로 불투수성인 콘크리트 보다 저류측면에서 불리하다. 콘크리트 취수보에서의 흐름은 보 정점의 형상, 보의 폭, 높이, 그리고 월류수심에 좌우되며, 베르누이 방정식과 연속방정식에 의해 방류량 산정식을 유도하고, 유량계수와 같은 실험상수를 결정하여 방류량을 계산한다. 돌망태 취수보의 흐름은 보의 높이, 보의 길이, 보의 상류수심 외에 채움재의 형상, 입경, 배치상태가 흐름에 영향을 미친다. 따라서 콘크리트 취수보에 적용되었던 기존의 방류량 산정식을 그대로 적용할 수 없다. 돌망태 보의 통과류는 실험상수가 포함된 비선형 수두손실방정식으로 표현할 수 있다. 실험상수는 비표면적의 크기를 의미하는 채움재의 평균동수반경와 관계되며, 평균동수반경은 채움재 입자의 형상으로 부터 구할 수 있다. 따라서 실험을 통하여 채움재 입자의 형상과 크기에 따른 실험상수와 평균동수반경의 관계를 구하면 비선형 수두손실방정식으로부터 통과류의 방류량을 계산할 수 있게 된다. 본 연구는 돌망태 취수보가 대수층함양 원수 공급시설물로서 타당한가를 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 콘크리트 취수보의 월류량 계산은 기존의 방류량 산정식을 이용하였으며, 돌망태 취수보는 실험상수와 평균동수반경의 기존관계식을 이용하여 통과류의 방류량을 계산하였다. 이와 같이 계산된 각각의 수심-방류량 관계로 부터 수심을 비교하였다. 동일한 유량조건에서 돌망태 취수보의 상류수심은 콘크리트 취수보보다 작게 계산되었다. 상류수심은 돌망태 채움재 입자의 크기가 작을수록 증가하여, 돌망태 취수보는 채움재의 입자크기가 작을수록 저류성능이 개선됨을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 돌망태 취수보는 채움재의 입경이 작을수록 콘크리트 취수보의 저류수준에 접근할 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다.

A Study on the Pedagogical Application of Omar Khayyam's Geometric Approaches to Cubic Equations (오마르 카얌(Omar Khayyam)이 제시한 삼차방정식의 기하학적 해법의 교육적 활용)

  • In this study, researchers have modernly reinterpreted geometric solving of cubic equations presented by an arabic mathematician, Omar Khayyam in medieval age, and have considered the pedagogical significance of geometric solving of the cubic equations using two conic sections in terms of analytic geometry. These efforts allow to analyze educational application of mathematics instruction and provide useful pedagogical implications in school mathematics such as 'connecting algebra-geometry', 'induction-generalization' and 'connecting analogous problems via analogy' for the geometric approaches of cubic equations: $x^3+4x=32$, $x^3+ax=b$, $x^3=4x+32$ and $x^3=ax+b$. It could be possible to reciprocally convert between algebraic representations of cubic equations and geometric representations of conic sections, while geometrically approaching the cubic equations from a perspective of connecting algebra and geometry. Also, it could be treated how to generalize solution of cubic equation containing variables from geometric solution in which coefficients and constant terms are given under a perspective of induction-generalization. Finally, it could enable to provide students with some opportunities to adapt similar solving procedures or methods into the newly-given cubic equation with a perspective of connecting analogous problems via analogy.

Comparison between the Spatially Integrated Model and the Spatially Distributed Model in the Nonpoint Source Contaminants of Groundwater (지하수 분산오염원에 대한 공간적분모형과 공간분포모형의 비교)

  • The spatially integrated model (SIM) which can evaluate temporal variation of groundwater quality is proposed in the stream-aquifer setting entered by nonpoint source contaminants. And the developed SIM included unsaturated soil zone and was tested against the spatially distributed model (SDM) of the coupled advection-dispersion and Richards equations for the various hydrologic and aquifer simulating conditions. The result of the comparison showed that the average concentration responses of saturated aquifer and groundwater outflow between the SIM and the SDM was in good agreement, except for the case of the large dispersivity ratio and thick aquifer system. And it is shown that for the cases of the large dispersivity ratio and thick aquifer system the performance of the nonlinear SIM is better than that of the linear SIM for evaluating the average concentration of groundwater outflow response.

The analysis for mathematics education system, algebra curriculum and textbooks of Chinese Taipei and Korea by TIMSS 2007 results (대만과 우리나라의 수학 교육체계 및 대수 교육과정과 교과서 비교 -TIMSS 2007 결과를 중심으로-)

  • Chinese Taipei won the first place at the mathematics achievement of TIMSS 2007. Especially, there was a significant difference in the percentage of correct answers between Chinese Taipei and Korea, and Chinese Taipei' percentage of correct answers was higher than Korea. This study compared the education system, mathematics instruction environment, and instructional activities of two countries. And for algebra, curriculum and textbooks were compared between two countries based on TIMSS 2007 framework. It was found that Chinese Taipei emphasized homework and test, and MCFL of that was low. Their textbook was formal, and induced the hasty abstraction, Also, some themes were introduced earlier than Korea and repeated across different grades.

  • In this paper, Ive investigated algebraic concepts which are contained in Euclid's Elements. In the Books II, V, and VII∼X of Elements, there are concepts of quadratic equation, ratio, irrational numbers, and so on. We also analyzed them for mathematical meaning with modem symbols and terms. From this, we can find the essence of the genesis of algebra, and the implications for students' mathematization through the experience of the situation where mathematics was made at first.

A Study on the Flow and Dispersion in the Coastal Unconfined Aquifer (Development and Application of a Numerical Model) (해안지역 비피압 충적 대수층에서의 흐름 및 분산(수치모형의 개발 및 적용))

  • In Korea, the aquifers at the coastal areas are mostly shallow alluvial unconfined aquifers. To simulate the flow and dispersion in unconfined aquifer, a FDM model has been developed to solve the nonlinear Boussinesq equation. Related analysis and verification have been executed. The iteration method is used to solve the nonlinearity, and the model shows 3-D shape because it is a 2-D y model that consider the undulation of water table and bottom. For the verification of the model, the output of flow module is compared to the 1-D analytic solution of Lee (1989) which have the drawdown or uplift boundary condition, and the two results show almost the same value. and the mass balance of dispersion module shows about 10% error. The developed model can be used for the analysis and design of the flow and dispersion in the unconfined aquifers. The model has been applied to the estuary area of Ssangcheon watershed, and the parameters have been deduced as a result : hydraulic conductivity is 90 m/day, and longitudinal dispersivity is 15 m. And the analysis with these parameters shows that the wells are situated in the influence circle of each others except for No. 7 well. Groundwater discharge to sea is $3700m^3/day$. And the chlorine ion ($cl^-$) concentration at the pumping wells increase at least 1000 mg/L if groundwater dam is not exist, so the groundwater dam plays an important role for the prevention of sea water intrusion.

  • This study is tried in order to link informal arithmetic reasoning to formal algebraic reasoning. In this study, we investigated elementary school student's non-formal algebraic reasoning used in algebraic problem solving. The result of we investigated algebraic reasoning of 839 students from grade 1 to 6 in two schools, Korea, we could recognize that they used various arithmetic reasoning and pre-formal algebraic reasoning which is the other than that is proposed in the text book in word problem solving related to the linear systems of equation. Reasoning strategies were diverse depending on structure of meaning and operational of problems. And we analyzed the cause of failure of reasoning in algebraic problem solving. Especially, 'quantitative reasoning', 'proportional reasoning' are turned into 'non-formal method of substitution' and 'non-formal method of addition and subtraction'. We discussed possibilities that we are able to connect these pre-formal algebraic reasoning to formal algebraic reasoning.

An Analysis of Algebraic Thinking by Third Graders (초등학교 3학년 학생들의 대수적 사고에 대한 실태 분석)

  • Given the importance of developing algebraic thinking from early grades, this study investigated an overall performance and main characteristics of algebraic thinking from a total of 197 third grade students. The national elementary mathematics curriculum in Korea does not emphasize directly essential elements of algebraic thinking but indicates indirectly some of them. This study compared our students' performance related to algebraic thinking with results of Blanton et al. (2015) which reported considerable progress of algebraic thinking by emphasizing it through a regular curriculum. The results of this study showed that Korean students solved many items correctly as compatible to Blanton et al. (2015). However, our students tended to use 'computational' strategies rather than 'structural' ones in the process of solving items related to equation. When it comes to making algebraic expressions, they tended to assign a particular value to the unknown quantity followed by the equal sign. This paper is expected to explore the algebraic thinking by elementary school students and to provide implications of how to promote students' algebraic thinking.
