  • In this paper, we consider a dyadic server control policy that combines workload control and single vacation. Customer arrives at the system with Bernoulli process, waits until his or her turn, and then receives service on FCFS(First come first served) discipline. If there is no customer to serve in the system, the idle single server spends a vacation of discrete random variable V. If the total service times of the waiting customers at the end of vacation exceeds predetermined workload threshold D, the server starts service immediately, and if the total workload of the system at the end of the vacation is less than or equal to D, the server stands by until the workload exceeds threshold and becomes busy. For the discrete-time Geo/G/1 queueing system operated under this dyadic server control policy, an idle period is analyzed and the steady-state queue length distribution is derived in a form of generating function.

  • COSMOS system which was developed in Seoul for real-time signal control was designed to judge traffic condition for practicing signal operation. However, it occurs efficiency problem that stop line detection and queue length detection could not judge overflow saturation of street. For that reason, following research process GPS data of Seoul city's corporationowned taxi to calculate travel speed that excluded existing system of stop line detection and queue length detection. Also, "Research of calculating queue length by GPS data" which was progressed with following research expressed queue length. It is based on establishing algorithm of judging congestion situation. The algorithm was applied to a few areas where appeared congestion situation consistently to confirm real time traffic condition with established network. • This study proposed a Variable Speed Limits(VSL) algorithm to use traffic information based on Cumulative Demand-Capacity Analysis and evaluated its performance. According to the analysis result, the total of delay consisted of 3 separate parts. There was no change in total travel time although the total of delay decreased. These effects was analysed theoretically and then, evaluated through VISSIM, a microscopic simulator. VISSIM simulation results show almost same as those of theoretical analysis. Furthermore in SSAM analysis with VISSIM simulation log, the number of high risk collisions decreased 36.0 %. However, the total delay decrease effect is not real meaning of decrease effect because the drivers' desired speed is same whether the VSL model is operated or not. Nevertheless this VSL model maintains free flow speed for longer and increases the cycle of traffic speed fluctuation. In other words, this is decrease of delay occurrence and scale. The decrease of speed gap between upstream and downstream stabilizes the traffic flow and leads decrease number of high risk collision. In conclusion, we can expect increase of safety through total delay minimization according to this VSL model.

  • COSMOS(Cycle, Offset, Split Model for Seoul), a real-time traffic adaptive signal system. estimates queue lengths on each approach on the basis of arithmetic average spot speeds calculated on loop detectors installed at each of two adjacent lanes. In this paper, A new method, a traffic volume-weighted average method, was studied and compared with the existing arithmetic average method. It was found that the relationship between the ratio of volumes of two lanes and the difference of average speed of each lane has a linear form. With field data, The two methods were applied and the proposed method shows more stable and reasonable queue estimation results.

  • A signal optimization model is proposed by applying the Cell-Transmission Model(CTM) as an embedded traffic flow model to estimate a system-optimal signal timing plan in a transportation network composed of signalized intersections. Beyond the existing signal-optimization models, the CTM provides appropriate theoretical and practical backgrounds to simulate oversaturation phenomena such as shockwave, queue length, and spillback. The model is formulated on the Mixed-Integer Programming(MIP) theory. The proposed model implies a system-optimal in a sense that traffic demand and signal system cooperate to minimize the traffic network cost: the demand departing from origins through route choice behavior until arriving at destinations and the signal system by calculating optimal signal timings considering the movement of these demand. The potential of model's practical application is demonstrated through a comparison study of two signal control strategies: optimal and fixed signal controls.

  • The performance of the National Highway is raised, but the capacity of the signalized intersection on the National Highway is low. It's operated by TOD(Time Of Day) mode. To evaluate of the performance of COSMOS(Cycle, Offset, Split Model for Seoul), a real time traffic adaptive signal control system, on the National Highway, studied volume, travel time and queuing length at TOD control and TRC(Traffic responsive Control). Consequently, the average travel speed at TRC is high $2.9\~16.7$km/h then the average travel speed at TOD control. And te queuing length at TRC is low $15\~196m$ then the queuing length at TOD control.

  • In this study, we analyzed queue length and sojourn time of discrete-time BMAP/G/1 queues under the workload control. Group customers (packets) with correlations arrive at the system following a discrete-time Markovian arrival process. The server starts busy period when the total service time of the arrived customers exceeds a predetermined workload threshold D and serves customers until the system is empty. From the analysis of workload and waiting time, distributions of queue length at the departure epoch and arbitrary time epoch and system sojourn time are derived. We also derived the mean value as a performance measure. Through numerical examples, we confirmed that we can obtain results represented by complex forms of equations, and we verified the validity of the theoretical values by comparing them with simulation results. From the results, we can obtain key performance measures of complex systems that operate similarly in various industrial fields and to analyze various optimization problems.
