임의의 모드를 가지는 모드적합법을 사용한 원형 단순확장관의 음향해석 (Acoustic Analysis of Simple Expansion Chamber Using Mode Matching Method with Arbitrary Number of Modes)

  • 고차모드를 고려하여 단순확장관을 해석한 많은 선행연구가 이루어 졌고, 이러한 연구는 모드적합법, 속도포텐셜법, 유한요소법으로 분류할 수 있다. 이들 중 모드적합법은 동심관형확장관을 해석하는 데 유용하다. 일반적으로 입·출구의 단면적이 중간확장관의 단면적보다 작으므로 입·출구에 고려하는 고차모드의 개수는 중간확장관에 고려하는 고차모드의 개수보다 작을 수 있다. 그러나 모드적합법은 입·출구와 중간확장관에 같은 개수의 고차모드를 사용하여야 한다. 그래서 입·출구에 불필요한 고차모드를 포함하게 되어 계산시간을 늘이는 결과를 초래한다. 본 논문에서는 입구, 중간확장관 그리고 출구에 각각 임의의 고차모드의 개수를 선택할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 그리고 이 방법의 정확성을 검증하기 위하여 전통적인 모드적합법, 유한요소법과 비교하였고, 이 새로운 방법이 계산시간을 줄일 수 있다는 것을 보였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 기존의 모드적합법의 단점을 개선하여 각 관에 임의의 모드갯수를 선택할 수 있고, 동심관형 단순확장관의 음향특성뿐만 아니라 입$\cdot$출구가 임의의 위치에 있는 경우에도 모드적합법을 적용할 수 있는 방안을 제시한다. 그리고 제시한 방안으로 프로그램을 작성하여, 각각 임의의 모드와 임의의 입$\cdot$출구의 위치를 가지는 원형 소음기의 4단자 정수를 구하고, 이로부터 임의의 입$\cdot$출구 위치에 따른 소음기의 음향특성을 구하여 유한요소법과 비교하여 제안하는 방법의 유용성을 검증하고 고차모드의 영향을 조사하였다.

  • To identify characterization of a simple extension chamber that have the two internal partition, produce the curve to estimate the transmission loss without the computer analysis. For helpful for internal optimum design, identify the characteristic of internal partition on transmission loss. Made estimated transmission loss curve by function of relationship of internal partition and transmission. Check the similarity of predicted transmission loss and analysis transmission loss. Usage of the predicted transmission loss made by relationship of internal partition and transmission loss is good information to place the internal partition so as to maximize the transmission loss on target frequency at optimal design on muffler.

  • With the increased requirement for automobile noise, a design fo mufflers with higher performances becomes more important in recent days. For a design of some mufflers, it must satisfy both minimizing back pressure and maximizing sound attenuation in broad range of frequecny. Even for a simple Helmholtz resonator, an important element in a muffler, a resonator design with accurate resonant frequency is difficult if one want to consider standing waves within the cavity. In this paper, the genetic algorithm, one of the optimization technique with high capability of global fittest solution and robust convergence, is applied to the design process of mufflers. Results show that the genetic algorithm can be successfully and efficiently used to find the fittest model for both mufflers and Helmoltz resonators.

  • This paper discusses the acoustic performance of simple expansion chamber using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The CFD model consists of an axisymmetric grid with a single period sinusoid of acceptable amplitude and duration imposed at the inlet boundary condition. The time history of the static pressure is recorded at two points, one in the inlet pipe and one point in outlet pipe. The time history of the static pressure is converted to the frequency domain using Fourier Transform and the transmission loss (TL) of the muffler is obtained from the ratio of the static pressure at the inlet and outlet pipe. The transmission loss of CFD result is compared with that of the computational acoustic analysis using the boundary element method (BEM). There are some differences in two results due to the pressure drop according to the inlet and outlet pipe length. Therefore, the effects of the pressure drop to the transmission loss have to be considered.

  • This paper proposed a new formula for predicting acoustic power transmission loss of simple expansion chamber with two internal partitions. Seventeen cases of computational results were performed and the database was constructed for the TL according to the various positions of internal partitions. Using this database, firstly, the formula for the peak values of TL at certain frequencies was developed using the least square estimation. Secondly, the formula for the TL curve could be obtained automatically with the input data of the positions of two internal partitions. The formula of TL developed in this paper showed good agreement with computational results. This formula will be helpful for the positioning of internal partitions to improve TL at target frequencies.

  • The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order modes should be considered to widen the frequency range. Munjal has suggested the method for analyzing the acoustic properties of simple expansion chamber with taking into consideration of higher order mode of inlet/outlet. But his method cannot predict the acoustic properties exactly when the dimensions of inlet/outlet and expansion chamber have not integer multiples. In this paper the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method The predictions by this method were also compared with those by the finite element method.

고차모드를 고려한 사각형 단순 확장관의 간편음향해석법의 개선 (A Modified Simple Acoustic Analysis of Rectangular Simple Expansion Chamber with Consideration of Higher Order Modes)

  • The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order model should be considered to widen the frequency range. Mode matching method has been developed to consider higher order modes, but very complicated algebra should be used. Munjal suggested a numerical collocation method, which can overcome the shortcomings of mode matching method, using the compatibility conditions for acoustic pressure and particle velocity at the junctions of area discontinuities. But the restriction of Munjal's method is that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In this paper, the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method. The predictions by this method was also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the modified method presented here.
