  • The transformation processes from unit cell data, Miller indices and atomic coordinates of non-standard space groups to the ones of the standard space groups in monoclinic system and the calculation processes of their standard deviations have been shown and computerized. The computer programs can be applied to all the seven crystal systems.

Effects of 3-Aminobenzamide on DNA Strand Breaks and Excision Repair in CHO cells Exposed to Methyl Methanesulfonate and Ultraviolet-light (MMS와 자외선을 처리한 CHO세포에 있어서 DNA사 절단과 절제회복에 미치는 3-aminobenzamide의 영향)

  • Amounts of DNA single strand breaks and unscheduled DNA synthesis in CHO cells exposed to MMS were increased in the presence of 3-aminobenzamide, a potent inhibitor of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. However, those in cells irradiated with UV-light were decreased. These results suggest that poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase acts negatively on the MMS-induced base excision repair but positively on the UV-induced nucleotide excision repair. In the combined treatment with MMS and UV-light in the presence of this inhibitor, amounts of strand breaks were just the same as those in the absence of the inhibitor. But those of unscheduled DNA synthesis were increased up to the amount induced by UV-light alone. These results may suggest that poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase affects the incision step of excision repair induced by MMS and UV-light independently, and that it may potentiate the complete cleaving of UV-induced pyrimidine dimers possibly by the repair enzymes which might have been partially inactivated by MMS.

Phlogopite-Bearing Orthopyroxenite in Andong Ultramafic Complex (안동 초염기성암 복합체의 함금운모 사방휘석암)

  • Phlogopite-bearing orthopyroxenite occurs in Andong ultramafic complex in a planar body of about 1 meter thick, and consists mostly of coarse subhedral to euhedral orthopyroxene crystals. Minor minerals are clinopyroxene, phlogopite, and plagioclase with trace chromian spinel, pentlandite, apatite, and zircon. Clinopyroxene occurs as either exolution lamella or interstitial fillings with phlogopite and plagioclase. Electron microprobe analysis showed that orthopyroxenes are entatite, while clinopyroxenes are diopside with little chemical variation through samples. Hydrous alteration resulted in the formation of talc, amphibole, and serpentine from orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, and plagioclase, respectively. The orthopyroxenite was probably formed by the fractional crystallization of the ultramafic magma. Radiogenic dating of phlogopite and zircon of the orthopyroxenite would reveal the age of the Andong ultramafic complex.

  • The single photo method has a lot of applications in forestry, traffic accident managements, industry, criminal investigation, and in daily life. In this study a new single photo method was developed by classifying into the Space resection method and the 2 Dimensional Perspective Transformation method. Metric and nonmetric cameras were used to analyse the accuracy by means of single photo method, and the errors in coordinates and lengths were studied by changing the number and arrangement of control points to obtain the optimum condition for the single photo method. The influence of number and arrangement of control points on the accuracy was relatively small in case of the Metric WILD P31 and ASAHI PENTAX 6$\times$7 cameras, where as for errors it was a major factor in the Non-metric Nikon FM2. To overcome these defects, at least 6 control points should be used for the errors to be convergent and they should be distributed evenly over the surveying area. It was found that accuracy increased as the object to be photographed was placed in the perpendicular direction to the axis of camera.

Formation of Mixed-layered Chlorite/Vermiculite and Halloysite from Clinochlore by Weathering in Anorthosite in the Sancheong District (산청지역 회장암내 단사녹니석의 풍화에 의한 녹니석/버미큘라이트 혼합층 광물 및 할로이사이트의 생성)

  • Mineralogical, textural, and chemical changes of chlorite by weathering in anorthosite in the Sancheong district were stucdied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and electron microprobe analysis. Chlorite in anorthosite corresponds to ferroan clinochlore with IIb structural type. It weatheres firstly to regularly mixed-layered chlorite/vermiculite(C/V) and then, to halloysite without the intermediate stage of vermiculite. Clinochlore packet cleaves and transforms to several thin packets of C/V, which subsequently change to halloysite developint fan-sharped structures by large volume increase. Direct halloysitization of C/V is attributed to the rapid weathering of anorthosite.

  • Die Titan-Augite sind die dominierenden Einsprenglings- und Grundmassephasen in allen tephritischen Gesteinen im Kaiserstuhl. Mg-Werte ($Mg/Mg+Fe^{2+}+Mn$) der Pyroxene schwanken von 60-85. Der FATS- und TITS-Anteil nimmt von phonolithischem Basanit und -Tephrit zum fraktionierten phonolithischen Tephrit hin ab. Die Kpx der einzelnen Gesteinsgruppen zeigen auch einen Fraktionier-ungstrend, der durch Abnahme von Si und Zunahme von Al vom phonolithischen Basanit und -Tephrit zum fraktionierten phonolithischen Tephrit gekennzeichnet ist. Der in Alkaligesteinen gewohnlich auftretende $gr{\ddot{u}}ne$ Kern der Px ist Fe-reicher und $Ti-{\ddot{a}}rmer$ als der $hellbra{\ddot{u}}nliche$-farblose Rand. Die $gr{\ddot{u}}nen$ Kerne weisen $gegen{\ddot{u}}ber$ den $hellbr{\ddot{a}}unlichen$ Randern $h{\ddot{o}}here$ $Na/Fe^{+3}$-Verhaltnisse auf.

  • In a different way of satellite image or aerial photo, the image acquired by terrestrial photogrammetry has to go through complicated management according to the desired precision and analysis range. In this study, digital surface model and ortho image for cultural asset, terrestrial structures, were made by reflectorless total station in order to increase the application of single photo, and that was analyzed and compared with the method using stereo image. Single photo is expected to be utilized as the measuring method for drawing cultural assets or examining the stability of slope in which high precision doesn't need by performing the various geometric and visual analysis using ortho image made by excluding the difficulties of acquisition and plotting of stereo image.

Spectroscopy of Skarn Minerals in Dangdu Pb-Zn Deposit and Assessment of Skarn Exploration Approaches Employing Portable Spectrometer (당두 연-아연 광상의 스카른 광물의 분광학적 특성과 휴대용 분광계의 스카른 탐사 가능성에 대한 고찰)

  • This study analyzed spectroscopic methods for characterization of skarn minerals and sphalerite occurring in Dangdu ore deposit, and effectiveness of portable spectrometer in skarn mineral resources exploration is discussed. The spectroscopic analyses identified clinopyroxene, garnet, epidote, calcite, chlorite and sphalerite where spectral curves of clinopyroxene, garnet, epidote, and sphalerite show single mineral spectral characteristics and those of chlorite are in a mixed form with calcite and clinopyroxene. The assessment of spectroscopic analyses based on XRD analysis and microscopic observation reveals that clinopyroxene, garnet, epidote correspond well with more than 80% of detection, but sphalerite, chlorite, and calcite showed below 50% of detection rate. It is expected that skarn deposit exploration using a portable spectrometer is more effective in detection of clinopyroxene, garnet, and epidote whereas spectroscopic data of sphalerite, chlorite, and calcite needs to be utilized as a supplementary data. For the effective detection of chlorite and calcite, their content in the samples needs to be sufficient.
