  • Driving after drinking is highly likely to cause accidents due to lack of responsibility and poor judgment. South Korea is seeking a sentence for accidental drinking accidents. The suspended jail term for drunk drivers accounts for more than 70 percent of the total. However, those who come to the probation office during the probation period are involuntary, subject to little motivation for change, and the large-scale, collective, and short-term education offered to them is limited in preventing re-off. In addition to small group and long-term education, we conducted intensive short-term interventions to see changes in drinking habits in three months. In the long run, the effectiveness of drinking control will be demonsstrated, making a difference in improving the programs offered to drunk drivers in the future. Drunk driving accouts for a very high percentage of the causes of traffic accidents, which, like many countries around the world, should make efforts to prevent and punish drunk driving.

  • Two studies were conducted to investigate the interactive effect between temporal proximity of utility value and self-efficacy on situational interest and reengagement motivation. In study 1, university students were provided with either proximal or distal values of mental calculation task. Hierarchical regression analyses showed a significant interaction effect between distal utility value and high self-efficacy, indicating that distal utility value was more effective to induce situational interest and reengagement motivation for students with higher level of self-efficacy. In study 2, we replicated study 1 with high school students to investigate developmental differences and found the same results. These findings suggest that it is important to consider the level of self-efficacy and proximity of utility value in designing value intervention program.

  • Construction industry pays attention to modular construction recently which based on factory production not on labor intensive site production. Since modular construction has high time shortening effect and easiness of demolition and recycling, it has been applied to the temporary residential building. Domestic modular construction market are not activated yet, however, due to the high initial cost to realize modular construction. This study proposes demand-sensitized movable modular building in order to reduce the financial burden. The study compares between RC method building and Modular building which moves building when the demand falls off from Life-Cycle Cost's viewpoint. As a result of the economical evaluation, RC method achieved profits faster than Modular model, but Modular model's gross earnings during the life-cycle are much bigger than RC method. In other words, the result means that the market-sensitized movement of the modular building would be an economci choice in Life-Cycle Costing aspect.

  • This study investigated the effect of community-based health intervention program to improve metabolic disease in Jeju island. There were 50 obese local residents in the experimental group (body mass index, $BMI{\geq}25kg/m^2$). They participated in cooking therapy with nutrition education (4 times), exercise program with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and stretching training (9 times), and alternative medicine program with healing touch massage (3 times) during a 3-week period. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, body composition, blood lipid profiles, blood glucose, and waist circumference were assessed before and after the intervention program. After the program, the value of total cholesterol (TC), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C), diastolic blood pressure, percent body fat, and waist circumference were decreased, and became the normal value. Especially, HbA1C, percent body fat, and waist circumference were significantly decreased (P<0.001) in the experimental group, while HbA1C, percent body fat, and waist circumference were significantly increased (P<0.001) in the control group (N=50), who had no intervention. Our results suggest that metabolic syndrome associated markers need intervention program for improving them. In conclusion, although this study did not analyze the effect of the health intervention program and cooking therapy separately, considering the result of this 3-week, short term program, the effect will be more profuse if cooking therapy and exercise program were performed concurrently.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the volatility spillover effects among BDI, CCFI and SCFI. This paper will divide the empirical analysis section into two periods to analyze and compare the differences in volatility spillover effect between shipping freight indices before and after the outbreak of COVID-19 separately. First, in order to compare the mean spillover impact and index lead-lag correlations in BDI and CCFI indices, along with BDI and SCFI indices before and after COVID-19, the co-integration analysis and the test of Granger causality built on the VAR model were utilized. Second, the impulse response and variance decomposition are employed in this work to investigate how the shipping freight index responds to shocks experienced by itself and other freight indices in a short period. Before the COVID-19 epidemic, the results demonstrated that the BDI freight index is the Granger cause of the variable CCFI freight index. But the BDI and CCFI freight indices have no apparent lead-lag relationships after COVID-19, and this empirical result echoes the cointegration test result. After the COVID-19 epidemic, the SCFI index leads the BDI index. This study employs the VAR-BEKK-GARCH joint model to explore the volatility spillover results between dry bulk and container transport markets before and after COVID-19. The empirical results demonstrate that after COVID-19, fluctuations in the BDI index still affect the CCFI index in the maritime market. However, there is no proof of a volatility spillover relationship between the BDI and SCFI after the COVID-19 epidemic. This study will provide an insight into the volatility relationship among BDI, CCFI and SCFI before and after the the COVID-19 epidemic occurred.

  • The effect of EDTA or BHA pretreatment upon the color preservation of canned surf clam meat during canning and storage was studied. The steamed surf clam meat was soaked in BHA solution, $0.1\%$ BHA in $5\%$ salt solution, or EDTA solution, $0.5\%\;Na_2$ EDTA in $5\%$ salt solution, for 30 minutes. The pretreated surf clam meat was packed in a round enameled can that is 223.2 ml by volume and sterilized for 75 minutes at $110^{\circ}C$. The canned products were stored for one year at room temperature. The EDTA treatment of surf clam meat appeared effective on color preservation during processing. After three month storage, the samples showed little color change comparing with those right after processing. After one year storage, EDTA or BHA treated samples showed better color preservation as compared with control.

  • The effect of ellagic acid (EA) on hepatocarcinogenesis induced by diethylnitrosamine (DEN), and promoted by phenobarbital (PB), and hepatectomized partially was investigated in male Wi star rats. All rats were injected 200 mg of DEN intraperitoneally, received 0.05 % of PB in drinking water at week 2, and hepatectomized 2/3 of liver at week 3. Rats of group 2, 3 and 4 were fed diet containing 400ppm EA for 1 week before DEN administration, for 9 weeks from beginning of experiment to sacrifice and for 6 weeks from PB treatment to sacrifice respectively. Rats of group 5, 6 and 7 were fed 800 ppm EA in the same manner as group 2, 3 and 4. Animals were killed at 8 weeks after DEN administration. The number and area of preneoplastic lesions were quantified the glutathione-S-transferase placental-form (GST-P) positive foci using immunohistochemical method. Decrease of number and area of the positive foci was observed in the rats fed 400 ppm EA for 9 weeks. In addition, the reduction of the foci can examine in all group fed 800 ppm EA. In conclusion, EA inhibited the hepatocarcinogenesis induced by DEN when it was administrated 800 ppm.

  • This paper analyzes the asymmetric pass-through effects of crude oil price changes on export prices in Korea's manufacturing sector using a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) model. These pass-through effects are important for Korean companies that are highly dependent on exports. Because the effects differ by industry, eight sectors of the manufacturing industry were examined. The model is effective for separately testing the long-term and short-term differences between the export-price pass-through effects when crude oil prices increase and decrease. The estimation results show that there is positive pass-through to export prices as crude oil prices change, and there are asymmetric effects in some manufacturing sectors. Short-term asymmetries were detected in the export prices of five sectors that include general machinery and transport equipment, and significant long-term asymmetries were found for petroleum and coal products and for textile and leather products. The long-term export price of oil and coal products rose by 0.992% with a 1% increase in the oil price and fell by 0.977% with 1% decrease. Therefore, corporate strategies and government export policies should be established in accordance with these asymmetric pass-through effects.
