Multi-tracer Imaging of a Compton Camera (다중 추적자 영상을 위한 컴프턴 카메라)

  • Since a Compton camera has high detection sensitivity due to electronic collimation and a good energy resolution, it is a potential imaging system for nuclear medicine. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of a Compton camera for multi-tracer imaging and proposed a rotating Compton camera to satisfy Orlov's condition for 3D imaging. Two software phantoms of 140 and 511 keV radiation sources were used for Monte-Carlo simulation and then the simulation data were reconstructed by listmode ordered subset expectation maximization to evaluate the capability of multi-tracer imaging in a Compton camera. And the Compton camera rotating around the object was proposed and tested with different rotation angle steps for improving the limited coverage of the fixed conventional Compton camera over the field-of-view in terms of histogram of angles in spherical coordinates. The simulation data showed the separate 140 and 511 keV images from simultaneous multi-tracer detection in both 2D and 3D imaging and the number of valid projection lines on the conical surfaces was inversely proportional to the decrease of rotation angle. Considering computation load and proper number of projection lines on the conical surface, the rotation angle of 30 degree was sufficient for 3D imaging of the Compton camera in terms of 26 min of computation time and 5 million of detected event number and the increased detection time can be solved with multiple Compton camera system. The Compton camera proposed in this study can be effective system for multi-tracer imaging and is a potential system for development of various disease diagnosis and therapy approaches.

Sum-Capacity Analysis of Multiple-Sensor Node Underwater Communications Using Time Reversal Transmission Method (시역전 기법을 이용한 다중 센서 노드 환경에서의 합용량 해석)

  • This paper proposes a multiple access method based on Time Reversal Mirror (TRM) technique when the multiple sensor nodes exist. Proposed method increases system sum capacity using energy focusing effects of the TRM. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm obtains higher system sum capacity than Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), e.g., 27 bps/Hz higher than the OFDMA method when the number of sensor node is 30, the number of transducer is 8, and is SINR 16 dB.

Determination of Impact Source Location Using a Single Transducer and Time Reversal Technique (단일센서와 시간역전법을 이용한 판에서의 충격위치 결정에 관한 연구)

  • A structural health monitoring technique for locating impact position in a plate structure is presented in this paper. The method employs a single sensor and spatial focusing of time reversal (TR) acoustics. We first examine the TR focusing effect at the impact position and its surroundings through simulation and experiment. The imaging results of impact points show that the impact source location can be accurately estimated in any position of the plate. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed method has the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in other ultrasonic testings of plate-like structures.

A study on the lasing characteristics of diode-pumped, single-mode Nd:YVO4 green laser (다이오드 여기 Nd:YVO4 단일모드 녹색광 레이저의 출력 특성 연구)

  • A diode-pumped single-mode Nd:YV $O_4$ green laser was developed. Frequency doubling of the laser was achieved by using an intracavity KTP generated green beam (532 nm). By comparing the diode laser spectrum with absorption spectrum of the Nd:YV $O_4$ crystal, we found optimal operating temperature of the diode laser. From output power measured for various mirror curvatures and cavity lengths, we found the optimal matching of TE $M_{00}$ mode with the pump beam gives the best efficiency. When the pump power was 1.9 W, 80 ㎽ of TE $M_{00}$ mode green beam was obtained. We tried to get a single longitudinal mode lasing as the fluctuation of the laser power was caused by the shift of longitudinal modes and the beating between the modes. We tested the intracavity etalon method and birefringent filter method for single mode operation. The etalon method resulted in the best single mode output power of 60 ㎽. The power fluctuation of the single-mode laser was reduced to 1/10 of that of the multi-mode laser.

Fabrication of Nano-bridge Using a Suspended Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube (다중벽 탄소나노튜브를 이용한 나노 브리지 제작)

  • We report the suspension of individual multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) from the bottom substrate using deep trench electrodes that were fabricated using optical lithography. During drying of the solution in dielectrophoretic assembly, the capillary force pulls the MWNT toward the bottom substrate, and it then remains as a deformed structure adhering to the bottom substrate after the solution has dried out. Small-diameter MWNTs cannot be suspended using thin electrodes with large gaps, but large-diameter MWNTs can be suspended using thicker electrodes. We present the statistical experimental results for successful suspension, as well as the feasible conditions for a MWNT suspension based on a theoretical approach.

  • A single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) has been studied as a material of Nano-Eletro-Mechanical-System (NEMS) device together with various nanowires. In order for oscillation of a multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) or a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) on plane surface, it needs suspension of a CNT across trench electrodes. So we propose fabrication method of a MWCNT resonator using dielectrophoresis and show successful results of suspeneded MWNT. Thin electrodes with large gaps could not suspend small diameter MWNT but thicker electrodes could. Thin MWNT could be suspended only when the electrode gap was reduced.

홀추력기 플라즈마 특성 연구를 위한 $E{\times}B$ 진단계 전산모사 및 개발

  • 홀 추력기는 플라즈마를 이용하는 전기추력기 중 하나로, 인공위성의 자세제어, 궤도수정, 궤도천이 뿐만아니라 행성간 임무수행을 위한 우주선의 엔진으로 사용된다. 홀 추력기 채널 내부에 발생된 Xe 이온들은 양극과 음극 사이에 존재하는 전기장에 의해 가속되어 추력을 발생시킨다. 이때 Xe 이온들은 자기장에 의해 감금된 전자와 중성 Xe 원자 사이의 충돌에 의해 발생하며, 실험적 및 이론적 연구를 통해 단일 전하를 띤 이온(Xe II)뿐만 아니라 다중 전하(Xe III 등)를 띤 이온도 생성되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이온의 전하량 비율은 홀 추력기의 추력효율 및 연료효율에 영향을 미치며, 다중 전하를 띤 이온의 높은 에너지는 채널벽의 침식문제를 야기하는 등 홀 추력기 이온빔의 전하량 분석 연구는 물리적 연구측면 뿐만아니라 실용적인 측면에서도 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 자기장과 그에 수직한 방향의 전기장에서 발생하는 로렌츠 힘을 이용하여 이온의 전하량을 분석할 수 있는 $E{\times}B$ 탐침을 설계 및 개발하였다. 개발된 $E{\times}B$ 탐침은 70 mm 길이의 집속기와 $148{\times}138{\times}90mm$의 본체, 40 mm길이의 콜렉터로 구성된다. $E{\times}B$ 탐침 설계에 가장 중요한 균일한 자기장 설계를 위해 전산모사를 통해 최적화 작업을 진행하였으며, 실험을 위한 진단계의 최적화와 초기 실험결과가 발표될 예정이다.

Holographic disk memories based on localized hologram recording (국소 홀로그램 기록방식에 기초한 홀로그래픽 디스크 메모리)

  • We studied a localized hologram recording method that can be used in a disk-shaped medium. In this method, the reference beam is focused by use of a cylindrical lens to get a thin spot in the medium, and then a hologram is recorded in that spot by illuminating the signal beam. Many localized holograms are multiplexed by shifting the medium by a distance more than the thin spot size of the reference beam. This method does not need recording-time scheduling for uniform diffraction efficiencies. We show that a minimal required thickness of the recording medium exists for a given spot size of the signal beam. We performed experiments for data storage and retrieval, and obtained a storage density of 20 bits/${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$^2$ and a raw-bit error rate (RBER) of 2.5${\times}$10$^{-3}$ , when a 2 mm-thick Fe-doped LiNbO$_3$ crystal was used.
