Experiment of Distributed Optical Fiber Sensor Using Spatially-Selective Brillouin Scattering (공간 선택적 브릴루앙 산란을 이용한 분포형 광섬유 센서의 실험)

  • We demonstrate a distributed fiber sensor system based on spatially-selective Brillouin scattering, using a single laser diode as a light source whose optical frequency is directly modulated by the injection current. The pump and the counter-propagating probe lights, which are sinusoidally frequency-modulated, are superposed in the fiber so that stimulated Brillouin scattering takes places only at a specific location along the fiber. Brillouin gain peak position is controlled by varying the modulation frequency. Distributions of Brillouin shift frequency are measured for the case of concatenated optical fibers of two different kinds and also for the case of temperature distribution. The temperature coefficient of the Brillouin shift frequency is measured to be $1.33MHz/^{\circ}C$.

  • Experimental amorphous photodiode is fabricated on CMOS IC using a-Si:H p-i-n structure. Amorphous photodiode is scuccessfully integrated on CMOS IC using amorphous Si produced by PECVD system. The PECVD system can deposit a-Si:H at low temperature so that photodiode can be integrated with CMOS IC structure without any process incompatibility. The fabricated amorphous photodiode has a breakdown voltage of below -20 V, a leakage current of about 1 $\mu\textrm{A}$, and turn-on voltage of 0.6~0.8 V. It is demonstrated that the photocurrent of optical signal can be turned on and off by a small voltage and the fabricated amorphous p-i-n photodiode can be used as an optical switch.

The comparison clinical study effect of Diode Laser & Ms coat usage for dentinal hypersensitivity following Periodontal therapy (치주치료 후 지각과민 감소를 위한 다이오드 레이저와 Ms coat 처치 직후 임상적 효과 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser & desensitizing agents to overcome hypersensitizing root surfaces problem after periodontal treatment. 20 patients(60 teeth) presented were volunteered in this study. Diode laser & MS coat was respectively applied on hypersensitizing root surfaces after periodontal treatments. Following application they were evaluated immediately. The results were as follows: 1. The frequency and degree of root surface hypersensitivity levels were measured by the sequence of tactile and air stream. 2. Reduction of root surfaces hypersensitivity by tactile were for Diode laser and Ms coat application respectively $3.0294{\pm}2.0224$ and $3.2692{\pm}1.6139$. 3. Reduction of root surfaces hypersensitivity by air stream were for Diode laser and Ms coat apapplication respectively $3.0294{\pm}2.0224$ and $2.2692{\pm}1.6139$. 4, It could be said that Diode Laser and Ms coat application were significantly effective in reducing dentin hypersensitivity as far as concerned effect, Ms coat applicatio showed more effective than Diode laser. In conclusion, both methods were significantly effective in reducing dentinal hypersensitivity. Therefore, it was recommended that Diode laser and desensitizing agents could be used routinely for patients dentinal hypersensitivity following periodontal treatment.

Widely Tunable Double-Ring-Resonator Add/Drop Filter (광대역 파장가변 이중 링 공진기 Add/Drop 필터)

  • A widely tunable add/drop filter composed of double ring resonators is implemented with high-index-contrast polymer waveguide. To enhance the productivity, directional couplers are designed to have good fabrication tolerance. The refractive indices of the core and cladding in the 1550 nm wavelength are 1.51 and 1.378, respectively. Drop response in comparison with neighborhood peak gets enhanced by more than 2.9 dB at the wavelength where both rings resonate. This filter can be used to build widely tunable laser diode through hybrid-integration with reflective SOA.

  • Fiber optic link systems based on SCM scheme are widely used as efficient and economic RF signal links between base station and a central station in mobile communication networks. However, its performance can be seriously limited depending on the operational conditions of not only the optical transmission system but also the wireless link in various environments. In this paper, we propose an analytic model for performance analyses of the SCM fiber optic link for CDMA RF signal transmission in various link environments. We present optimal operational conditions taking account of the nonlinear effects of the optical transmission system, and the multiple access interference produced at the wireless link. It has been shown through the BER analyses in this paper that the selection of optical modulation index of the SCM fiber optic links can be found optimally to minimize the fiber optic link noises and intermodulation distortion due to LD.

Si 기판위에 형성된 ZnO 나노입자의 열처리 온도변화에 따른 구조적 성질과 전자적 성질에 관한 연구

  • ZnO는 상온에서 에너지 밴드갭이 3.37 eV 이고 엑시톤 속박에너지가 60 meV 인 넓은 에너지 띠를 가진 반도체이다. ZnO 반도체는 고에너지 영역에서 광투과율 및 에너지 수집율이 큰 특성을 가지고 있기 때문에 단파장 영역에서 작동하는 발광 다이오드나 반도체레이저 소자 응용에 사용되고 있다. 이와 더불어 액정디스플레이, 유기발광소자 및 태양전지에서 투명 산화물 전극으로 많은 응용이 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 p-type Si 기판 위에 ZnO 나노입자 형성과 구조적 성질과 전자적 성질에 대하여 조사하였다. ZnO 나노입자를 형성하기 위해 ethanol에 zinc acetate dehydrate (5 wt%)을 적절히 분산시킨 $Zn(CH_3COO)_2H_2O\;+\;CH_3OH$ 용액을 스핀 코팅하여 산소 분위기에서 각각 $300^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$$900^{\circ}C$로 각각 2시간 동안 열처리 하였다. X-ray 회절 실험 결과는 열처리 온도에 관계없이 ZnO (0001)의 피크가 관측되었다. 원자힘 현미경 이미지상으로 열처리 온도에 따른 ZnO 나노입자의 표면상태의 변화와 나노입자의 크기의 변화를 확인하였다. X-ray 광전자 분광 스펙트럼 결과는 Zn $2p_{3/2}$와 O 1s의 전자상태 스펙트럼을 분석하여 ZnO 나노입자가 형성됨을 보여주었다. 본 연구를 통하여 용액방법을 사용하여 제작된 ZnO 나노입자의 열처리 온도변화에 따른 구조적 성질과 전자적 성질을 이해하는데 도움을 줄 것이다.

  • A single pixel photon counting type image sensor which is applicable for medical diagnosis with digitally obtained image and industrial purpose has tern designed with $0.18{\mu}m$ triple-well CMOS process. The designed single pixel for readout chip is able to be operated by single supply voltage to simplify digital X-ray image sensor module and a preamplifier which is consist of folded cascode CMOS operational amplifier has been designed to enlarge signal voltage(${\Delta}Vs$), the output voltage of preamplifier. And an externally tunable threshold voltage generator circuit which generates threshold voltage in the readout chip has been newly proposed against the conventional external threshold voltage supply. In addition, A dark current compensation circuit for reducing dark current noise from photo diode is proposed and 15bit LFSR(Linear Feedback Shift Resister) Counter which is able to have high counting frequency and small layout area is designed.

  • A new idea of the wavelength locking module for DWDM application was investigated in the present research. Only one etalon photo-diode is generally used in the internal/external wavelength locking system. For the internal wavelength locking module with 50 GHz applications, an algle tuning method of the etalon commonly applied. However, the alignment process of the etalon with the angle tuning method is limited because the lock performance is extremely sensitive accoriding to the change of the tilting angle. In an optical viewpoint, the alignment tolerance of the locker module with the etalon PD array block was good, and the precise tuning of the wavelength was possible. The characteristics of free spectral range (FSR) and peak shift of wavelength according to the tilting angle with the locker module was investigated. For the present module, the optimized initial tilting angle was experimentally obtained.

  • In this paper, a diffractive optical element was designed to create lighting patterns that satisfy the requirements of adaptive headlight systems for normal road mode, highway mode, and wet road mode, and this was rendered into a GDSII stream format file.To verify the effectiveness of the light distribution formed by the diffractive optical elements and the realization of white light, simulations based on Field Tracing and Ray Tracing were conducted, confirming the satisfaction of position and luminance requirements at the transformation beam measurement points. Based on this research, it is anticipated that the implementation of adaptive headlights would be possible, enabling the reproduction of luminance contrast and the creation of a simple-structured adaptive headlight system.

  • In order to enhance combustion efficiency and reduce atmosphere pollutants, it is essential to measure carbon monoxide (CO) concentration precisely in combustion exhaust. CO is the important gas species regarding pollutant emission and incomplete combustion because it can trade off with NOx and increase rapidly when incomplete combustion occurs. In the case of a steel annealing system, CO is generated intentionally to maintain the deoxidation atmosphere. However, it is difficult to measure the CO concentration in a combustion environment in real-time, because of unsteady combustion reactions and harsh environment. Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS), which is an optical measurement method, is highly attractive for measuring the concentration of certain gas species, temperature, velocity, and pressure in a combustion environment. TDLAS has several advantages such as sensitive, non-invasive, and fast response, and in-situ measurement capability. In this study, a combustion system is designed to control the equivalence ratio. Also, the combustion exhaust gases are produced in a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)/air flame. Measurement of CO concentration according to the change of equivalence ratio is confirmed through TDLAS method and compared with the simulation based on Voigt function. In order to measure the CO concentration without interference from other combustion products, a near-infrared laser at 4300.6 cm-1 was selected.
