Wear Characteristics of Lubricant with Nano-diamond Particles on Al-6061 Aluminum Alloy (나노 다이아몬드 입자를 첨가한 엔진 오일의 알루미늄 6061 합금에 대한 마모 특성)

  • Pin-to-disc wear testing experiments were conducted to investigate the wear characteristics of commercial oil (5W-40) with nano-diamond particles. The upper specimen was a SUJ-2 high-carbon chromium steel ball with a diameter of 4 mm, and the lower specimen was made of the Al-6061 alloy. The applied load was 5 N, and the sliding speed was 0.25 m/s. The wear tests were conducted at a sliding distance of 500 m. The friction coefficients and wear rates of the Al-6061 specimens were tested using commercial oil with different nano-diamond concentrations ranging from 0 to 0.02 wt.%. The addition of nano-diamond particles to commercial oil reduced both the wear rate and coefficient of friction of the Al-6061 alloy. The use of nano-diamond particles as a solid additive in oil lubricants was found to improve the tribological behavior of the Al-6061 alloy. For the Al-6061 alloy, the optimal concentration was found to be 0.005 wt.% in view of the friction coefficient and wear rate. Further investigation is needed to determine the optimal concentration of nano-diamond particles for various loadings, sliding speeds, oil temperatures, and sliding distances.

  • $SF_6/O_2$ inductively coupled plasmas were employed to texture Si surface as a pretreatment for nanocrystalline diamond film growth. It was found that the $SF_6/O_2$ plasma texturing provided a very wide process window where normalized roughness values in the range of 2~16 could be obtained. Significantly improved nucleation densities of ${\sim}6.5{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}$ compared to conventional mechanical abrasion were achieved after seeding for the textured Si substrate.

EFFECT OF MICROLEAKAGE OF A SELF-ETCHING PRIMER ADHESIVE ACCORDING TO TYPES OF CUTTING INSTRUMENTS (삭제기구가 자가 산부식 접착제의 미세누출에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of burs on microleakage of Class V resin restorations when a self-etching primer adhesive was used. Forty Class V cavities were prepared with four different cutting burs on extracted third molars, and divided into one of four equal groups (n = 10); Group 1-plain cut carbide bur (no. 245), Group 2-cross cut carbide bur (no. 557), Group 3-fine diamond bur (TF-21F), Group 4-standard diamond bur (EX-41). The occlusal and gingival margin of cavities was located in enamel and dentin, respectively. Cavities were treated with Clearfil SE Bond and restored with Clearfil AP-X. Specimens were thermocycled, immersed in a 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours, and bisected longitudinally. They were observed leakages at enamel and dentinal margins. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon signed ranked test. The results of this study were as follows; 1. At enamel margin, microleakage of group 4 was statistically higher than those of group 1, 2 and 3 (p < 0.01). 2. At dentinal margin, microleakage of group 4 was statistically higher than group 3 (p < 0.01), but group 1 and 2 were not statistically different with group 3 and 4. 3. Enamel microleakage was statistically higher than dentinal microleakage in group 1, 2 and 3 (p < 0.05), but statistical difference between the microleakage of enamel and dentinal margin was not in Group 4. In conclusion, the use of coarse diamond bur showed high microleakage at both enamel and dentinal margin when Clearfil SE Bond was used in class V cavity.

  • 나노크기 금속입자가 분산된 세라믹 나노복합재료는 향상된 기계적 특성과 함께 독특한 전기적, 자기적 특성을 보여주어 새로운 기능성 재료로의 응용가능성을 갖고 있다. 그러나 소결 중의 반응이나 입자성장 등으로 형성된 반응상 또는 조대한 입자상이 세라믹 기지의 입계 등에 존재한다면, 나노크기 금속상 분산에 의한 기계적 특성의 향상과 독특한 기능성 부여라는 장점들이 없어지게 된다. 따라서 요구되는 특성을 구현할 수 있는 금속분산 나노복합재료의 제조를 위해서는 미세조직 제어를 위한 최적의 제조공정 확립과 미세조직과 특성 등의 관계에 대한 연구가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 기지상으로 A1$_2$O$_3$를, 분산상으로는 저융점 금속이며 일반적인 A1$_2$O$_3$의 가압소결시에 (약 140$0^{\circ}C$) 액상으로 존재하는 금속 Cu를 선택하여 조성이 5 vol% Cu가 되도록 복합재료를 제조하였다. $Al_2$O$_3$와 CuO 원료분말들은 습식 및 건식 볼 밀링을 통하여 균일한 분말혼합체로 제조되었다. 혼합분말은 열간가압소결기 내에 장입한 후 35$0^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 H$_2$가스를 흘려주며 CuO를 Cu로 환원 처리하였다. 계속해서 H$_2$분위기를 유지하며 승온한 후, 각각 1000-145$0^{\circ}C$에서 분위기를 Ar 으로 치환하였다. 소결은 145$0^{\circ}C$에서 30 ㎫의 압력으로 1시간동안 행하였다 소결한 시편들은 직사각형 형태로 가공하였으며 표면은 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$의 다이아몬드 입자로 연마하였다. XRD, SEM 및 TEM을 이용하여 상분석 및 미세조직관찰을 행하였다. 파괴강도는 3중점 굽힘 법으로 (3-point bending test) 측정하였다. 이때 시편 하부의 지지 점간의 거리는 30mm, cross-head 속도는 0.5 mm/min으로 하였고 5개의 시편을 측정하여 평균값을 구하였다.

Micro-drilling of alumina green body with diamond abrasive drills (다이아몬드 입자 전착 드릴에 의한 알루미나 성형제의 미소구멍가공)

  • Although ceramic plates with many micro-hales are used as MCP (Micro-channel plate) for electron amplification, catalytic converters, filters, electrical insulators and thermal conductors in integrated circuits, the drilling of micro-hales in the ceramics is difficult because of their low thermal conductivity, high hardness and brittleness. Therefore, in this work, the machining of ceramic green body fellowed by sintering of green body was employed fur fabricating ceramic plates with many micro-holes. The micro-drilling of alumina green body was performed with diamond abrasive WC drills, and the cutting force w.r.t. drilling times was measured for the determination of toot life. From the investigation of the wear of micro-drill tip w.r.t. drilling times, the wear mechanism of tip during micro-drilling of ceramic green body was suggested.

  • Many studies have been conducted to increase heat transfer in fluid. One of the various heat transfer enhancement techniques is suspending fine metallic or nonmetallic solid powder in traditional fluid. Nanofluid is defined as a new kind of heat transfer fluid containing a very small quantity of nanometer particles that are uniformly and stably suspended in a liquid. This study investigates the effect of nanofluid containing diamond, CuNi and CuAg nanometer particles, and proposes the heat transport mechanism of nanofluid. The test result shows that the thermal conductivity of nanofluid is much higher than that of traditional fluid, and the increasing rate of the conductivity is dependent on the conductivity of the solid metal.

  • 본 연구는 친수공간 확보에 따른 경관호안 블록의 개발과 홍수시 수리적 안정성을 가져올 수 있는 블록의 규격은 물론 블록의 형상에 따른 상호 맞물림과 블록간의 고정 등 수리적으로 안정성을 제공해 주는지를 수리모형실험을 통해서 분석하였다. 바닥 사석공에서는 아무런 맞물림이 없는 상태에서보다는 맞물림을 주었을 경우가 안정성이 크게 나왔고 그 맞물림의 량이 많은 조건으로 실험한 육각형 다이아몬드블록의 결과가 안정성이 더 크게 나왔다. 사석의 경사시공에서는 횡적구속만 주었을 경우보다는 종·횡적구속을 주었을 경우가 안정성이 크게 나와 두방향의 구속이 필요함을 보여주었다. 이러한 실험결과는 블록의 크기, 형상 및 맞물림에 따른 유속, 수심, Froude수, Shields수, 바닥전단응력, 입자 Reynolds수의 분석을 통해 얻었다.

Effect of Diamond Particle Ratio on the Microstructure and Thermal Shock Property of HPHT Sintered Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) (초 고온·고압 소결 공정으로 제조된 다결정 다이아몬드 컴팩트(PDC)의 미세조직 및 열충격 특성에 미치는 다이아몬드 입자 비율의 영향)

  • This study investigates the microstructure and thermal shock properties of polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) produced by the high-temperature, high-pressure (HPHT) process. The diamond used for the investigation features a $12{\sim}22{\mu}m$- and $8{\sim}16{\mu}m$-sized main particles, and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$-sized filler particles. The filler particle ratio is adjusted up to 5~31% to produce a mixed particle, and then the tap density is measured. The measurement finds that as the filler particle ratio increases, the tap density value continuously increases, but at 23% or greater, it reduces by a small margin. The mixed particle described above undergoes an HPHT sintering process. Observation of PDC microstructures reveals that the filler particle ratio with high tap density value increases direct bonding among diamond particles, Co distribution becomes even, and the Co and W fraction also decreases. The produced PDC undergoes thermal shock tests with two temperature conditions of 820 and 830, and the results reveals that PDC with smaller filler particle ratio and low tap density value easily produces cracks, while PDC with high tap density value that contributes in increased direct bonding along with the higher diamond content results in improved thermal shock properties.

Effect of Diamond Particle Size on the Thermal Shock Property of High Pressure High Temperature Sintered Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (초 고온·고압 소결 공정으로 제조된 다결정 다이아몬드 컴팩트의 열충격 특성에 미치는 다이아몬드 입자 크기의 영향)

  • This study investigates the thermal shock property of a polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) produced by a high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) sintering process. Three kinds of PDCs are manufactured by the HPHT sintering process using different particle sizes of the initial diamond powders: $8-16{\mu}m$ ($D50=4.3{\mu}m$), $10-20{\mu}m$ ($D50=6.92{\mu}m$), and $12-22{\mu}m$ ($D50=8.94{\mu}m$). The microstructure observation results for the manufactured PDCs reveal that elemental Co and W are present along the interface of the diamond particles. The fractions of Co and WC in the PDC increase as the initial particle size decreases. The manufactured PDCs are subjected to thermal shock tests at two temperatures of $780^{\circ}C$ and $830^{\circ}C$. The results reveal that the PDC with a smaller particle size of diamond easily produces microscale thermal cracks. This is mainly because of the abundant presence of Co and WC phases along the diamond interface and the easy formation of Co-based (CoO, $Co_3O_4$) and W-based ($WO_2$) oxides in the PDC using smaller diamond particles. The microstructural factors for controlling the thermal shock property of PDC material are also discussed.

Effect of Intermediate Layer Coated Diamond Particles on Performance of Diamond Tool (다이아몬드 입자에 형성된 중간층이 다이아몬드 공구 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to improve the performance of electrodeposited diamond-nickel composite, surface modification of diamond particles was carried out using powder immersion reaction assisted coating (PIRAC). Titanium and chromium were selected as coating elements, which are known as carbide former. With respect to the powder elements, various phases were formed on diamond; metallic Ti and TiC for Ti powder, $Cr_3C_2$ for Cr powder, and TiC and $Cr_3C_2$ for Ti-Cr mixed powder. Surface modified diamond particle showed higher specific surface area, especially Ti coating induced considerable increase of specific surface area. The increase of specific surface area suggests increase of surface roughness, and that was confirmed by surface observation using FE-SEM. In addition, wear properties of diamond-nickel composite including surface modified diamonds were improved, and Ti coated diamond showed the highest performance. The wear property of diamond-nickel composite is dependent on adhesion strength between diamond particle and nickel layer. Therefore, surface modification of diamond particle by PIRAC increasing surface roughness is effective to improve the properties of diamond-nickel composite.
