Static and Structural Analyses of the Link of a Double-Action Link-Type Hydraulic Die Set (폐쇄단조용 복동링크유압식 다이세트의 링크의 정역학적 해석과 구조해석)

  • This paper presents the mechanics of the link of a double-action link-type hydraulic die set for the enclosed die forging. Operational principle of the die set in the enclosed die forging is introduced with emphasis on force transmission from the press and the hydraulic system to the material through links, die components and punches. The force exerted on the link is statically investigated and its structural analysis is carried out. The analyzed results are discussed to be used for design of the link system.

  • In this paper, kinematic analysis of a double-action link-type die set for enclosed die forging is carried out. The structure of the die set and its operational principle during enclosed die forging are introduced in detail. A closed-form solution of the relative velocity of the middle plate with respect to the upper plate after the upper and lower dies are enclosed is given in terms of the link lengths and the distance from the lower pin to the upper pin of the link system. The effect of the link lengths on both strokes and velocities is investigated. It has been shown that the relative velocity of the middle plate with respect to the upper plate varies almost linearly with the stroke of the upper plate.

  • A novel and efficient approach for the numerical solution of time-dependent coupled-wave equations, which are frequently used for the modeling of DFB(Distributed Feedback), DBR(Distributed Bragg Reflector), and FP(Fabry Perot) laser diodes, is proposed. In this approach, the coupled wave equations are split into two sets of equations. One of two sets of equations contains only the phase factors and the other contains only the coupling terms. The separate equations are solved exactly in their split form successively. This new numerical scheme, which we call the SS-TDM(Split-Step Time Domain Model), is found to require an order of magnitude smaller number of subsections to get accurate results than the previous methods while the computation time for each time step is comparable to the previous methods.

  • It is very important to minimize the die roll height of gear, in order to maximize the shear cutting surface(tooth surface) of fine blanking. In this paper, the fine blanking tool sets were manufactured in order to study the die roll height according to V-ring position and die chamfer shape. They were constituted of the various die inserts and guide plate inserts with different die chamfer shape and different V-ring distance. The fine blanking experiment was conducted with the fine blanking tool sets and the die roll height of the gear samples was measured. It should be noted that die roll height on the fine blanked gear increased with increasing the V-ring distance and die chamfer angle.

  • The key technologies necessary to develop and utilize a double-action link-type hydraulic die set for the enclosed die forging are presented in this paper. Various die sets for the enclosed die forging are investigated and the technologies necessary to develop and to utilize a double-action link-type hydraulic die set are introduced in detail with emphasis on the mechanism of the die set and its kinematical behaviors, the force transmission mechanism, the criterion on the enclosed die forging and its application, the forming load prediction and the stress distribution of the link. A double-action link-type hydraulic die set is developed and it is applied to the enclosed die forging of a bevel gear.

  • In this paper, a criterion on enclosed die forging with a double action link type hydraulic die set is presented. Operational principle of the die set in enclosed die forging is introduced with emphasis on force transfer from the press and the hydraulic system to the material through links, die components and punches. Force transfer mechanism is examined and three different modes are introduced. Requirements on force equilibrium are applied to the three force transfer modes and a criterion on enclosed die forging with a double action link type hydraulic die set is drawn. The criterion is discussed to minimize forming load.

  • In this study, a die set for enclosed die forging is developed and it is applied to precision forging of bevel gears and spiders. The enclosed die forging die set is introduced in detail together with the enclosed die forging. A target mechanical press and a model product are selected and various engineering technologies are applied for detail design of the enclosed die forging die set. Several precision forgings are manufactured by the developed die set. The enclosed die forging die set as well as the precision forging processes are developed under intensive industry-university cooperation.
