  • In this study, Magnetic Flux Leakage(MFL)-based inspection system was applied to detect the local fault of wire rope. To verify the feasibility of the proposed damage detection technique, an 4-channel MFL sensor head prototype was designed and fabricated. A wire rope with several types of cross-sectional damages were fabricated and scanned by the MFL sensor head to measure the magnetic flux density of the wire rope specimen. To interpret the condition of the wire rope, magnetic flux signals were used to determine the locations of the flaws. To improve the resolution of signal, the instantaneous variation value of magnetic flux was utilized. Measured signals from the damaged specimen were compared with thresholds set for objective decision making. Finally, the results were compared with information on actual inflicted damages to confirm the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed cable monitoring method.

  • In this study, we propose a method of suppressing the leakage noise signal of motor assembly through the test. The motor assembly is mounted on outside of the aircraft to rotate an antenna and must satisfy RE102 requirement on MIL-STD-461F in terms of electromagnetic interference. It is confirmed by RE102 test result hat the leakage noise signal of the equipment occurs due to external influx through the power and control cable and rotation of the motor. And it is ascertained that the part where internal/external physical shielding is difficult to rotate is the leakage path. To reduce the leakage noise signal, the electrical ground reinforcement and the electric shielding structure considering the operation of the equipment is applied and it is verified that the requirement is satisfied. Finally, we verified that required specification are met by applying circular corrugated choke with interlocking shapes and conductive grease to the noise leakage path.

  • Due to increased integration density and reduced threshold voltages, leakage current reduction becomes important in the semiconductor IC design for low power consumption. In a combinational logic circuit, the leakage current in the standby state depends on the values of the input. In this research, we developed a new input vector control method to minimize the leakage power. A new efficient algorithm is developed to find the minimal leakage vector. It can reduce the leakage current by 15.7% from the average leakage current and by 6.7% from the results of simulated evolution method during standby or idle states for a set of benchmark circuits. The minimal leakage input vector, with idle input signal, can also reduce the leakage current by 6.8% from the average leakage current and by 3.2% from the results of simulated evolution method for sequential circuits.

  • MFL PIG (Magnetic Flux Leakage Pipeline Inspection Gauge) is called the system which detects the defect for underground pipelines by using magnetic flux leakage method in nondestructive testing. This method is very suitable for testing pipelines because pipeline has high magnetic permeability. MFL PIG generates the magnetic fields to the pipe axially oriented, and detect the signal of leakage flux by using hall sensor. However, MFL PIG is hard to detect the axially oriented crack with small size because the magnetic flux leakage is not enough to be occurred. To detect the small size and axially oriented crack, the circumferential MFL (CMFL) PIG is being proposed and it can maximize the leakage flux for the axial crack by performing magnetic fields circumferentially on the pipe. In this paper, CMFL PIG is applied to detect the axially oriented crack with small size and the analysis for the distribution and the amplitude of the leakage flux signal is performed by using three dimensional finite element method. From sensing signals, the method how to determine the shape of axially oriented cracks is proposed and verified with experiment.

  • Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) signals were used for corrosion inspection of buried oil and gas pipeline. 3D finite element analysis was used to examine the effects of far and near-side pit depth and tensile stress on MFL signals. Anisotropci materials were used, and the effects of simulated tensile stress on MFL were investigated. The axial and radial MFL signals depended on far and near-side single pit depth and on the bulk stress, but the circumferential MFL signal did not depend on them. The axial and radial MFL signals increased with increasing pit depth and the bulk stress, but the circumferential MFL signal was scarcely changed.

  • Acoustic intensity is usually estimated by the cross-spectrum of acoustic pressure at two adjacent microphones. The cross-spectrum calculated by digital Fourier transform technique will unavoidably have leakage error since the period of signal will not be usually coincident with record length. Therefore, the acoustic intensity estimated by the conventional FFT analyzer will show distorted value. In this paper, the expression of the Fourier transformed data of a harmonic signal with a single frequency is formulated when there is leakage error. The method to eliminate the effect of leakage error from the contaminated data is also proposed. Some numerical examples show the validation of the proposed method.

  • An acoustic leak monitoring system(ALMS) using acoustic emission(AE) technique was applied for leakage detection of nuclear power plant's pipeline which is operated in high temperature and pressure condition. Since this system only monitors the existence of leak using the root mean square(RMS) value of raw signal from AE sensor, the difficulty occurs when the characteristics of leak size and shape need to be evaluated. In this study, dual monitoring system using AE sensor and accelerometer was introduced in order to solve this problem. In addition, artificial neural network(ANN) with Levenberg.Marquardt(LM) training algorithm was also applied due to rapid training rate and gave the reliable classification performance. The input parameters of this ANN were extracted from varying signal received from experimental conditions such as the fluid pressure inside pipe, the shape and size of the leak area. Additional experiments were also carried out and with different objective which is to study the generation and characteristic of lamb and surface wave according to the pipe thickness.

  • Differential Power Analysis (DPA) is well known as one of efficient physical side-channel attack methods using leakage power consumption traces. However, since the power traces usually include the components irrelevant to the encryption, the efficiency of the DPA attack may be degraded. To enhance the performance of DPA, we introduce a pre-processing technique which extracts the encryption-related parts from the measured power consumption signals. Experimental results show that the DPA attack with the use of the proposed pre-processing method detects correct cipher keys with much smaller number of signals compared to that of the conventional DPA attack.

  • The second part of paper related rotor failure is to evaluate that the axial magnetic flux measurement could be used as a tool of the condition monitoring system for the induction motor and to develope the diagnostic algorithm for the various fault in the electric motors. The magnetic leakage flux signal is captured by the flux coil located at the end of motor without the disturbance of the operation. And the signal is analyzed both time and frequency domain to detect the failure of the motor. Specific signature can be described in tin and frequency domain for each fault of the motor. The experimental test found that the rotor failures - broken rotor bar, broken end ing and rotor eccentricity, could be detected from the spectrum with high resolution. The method of detecting the rotor fault was found by analysing the specific frequency and the sideband of the rotor bar pass frequency from axial leakage flux spectrum. In addition the optimal flux coil and measuring equipment for the axial leakage flux measurement was verified and the diagnostic method for the detection of the rotor related failure was developed.
