Natural Aging Effect on the Fiber Tensile Strength of Carbon Epoxy Pressure Vessel (자연 노화에 따른 카본 에폭시 압력용기의 섬유 인장 강도 변화)

  • To evaluate and investigate the aging characteristics and the structural service lifetime of the CFV(carbon fiber pressure vessel), natural aging tests were carried out using the CFVs, which had been placed and aged at outdoor and indoor laboratories for 10 and 15 years, respectively. To obtain the probabilistic characteristics of ageing characteristics in aged CFVs, inner pressure loading test was conducted with ring specimens taken from aged CFVs. And, to observe the interface morphology of aged CFVs, the micro-photographs were taken by SEM microscope and the fractured interfaces between the carbon fiber and the matrix resin were scrutinized. Based on the Weibull parameters of the tensile failure strain of aged CFVs, the degradation of the 10 and the 15 year aged CFV occur by 19% and 23%, respectively, and the effect of the placement, whether being placed inside the laboratory or not, is not so significant. However, the outer layer protection, such as painting, is found very advantageous to prevent CFV from aging.

  • In this study, rubber vulcanization property, change in physical property, morphology and chemical characteristics of blended rubber depending on various IR/CR ratio were investigated for the purpose of the improvement of material property and durability. The effect of surface treatment by chlorine on the friction coefficient was also studied with various conditions of surface treatment. In terms of vulcanization property, as the amount of CR content increased, the speed of cure was decreased, while the density of crosslinking stayed constant. It means hardness and modulus were increased as the CR content increased. It is related to change in cure property and mechanical strength was improved by the effect of crystallization reaction. In the aging property, as the CR content increases, the changed amount of basic properties were decreased, which acts as a reducing factor in change of aged property by complementing weak point in mechanical property. It was found that the degree of property change for surface treated samples were reduced. According to the microscopic result, the degree of surface dispersion on rubber blends was increased by increasing CR content. Rubber surface showed uniform direction in pattern with increased smoothness and luster by treatment with chlorine. The degree of rubber reforming was measured by the remaining amount of chlorine and the friction coefficient was dependent on the amount of chlorine combined with rubber. In the initial stage of surface treatment, from 10 to 40 phr, the friction coefficient of specimen was rapidly reduced. However, as the concentration of chlorine solution increased, the change in friction coefficient was decreased.

  • Post curing effects are estimated by specimen tests. Propellant specimen accelerated aging tests are performed when post curing is estimated to be complete and the coefficients of Arrhenius aging equations are acquired. Simulated motors with cylindrical grain are designed and fabricated to confirm the application. Accelerated aging tests are conducted, and aged properties are measured and estimated for the inner bore, center and bond parts of the grain. The measured aging ratios of the modulus are compared with the ones predicted by the equations. As the results, the accelerated aging equations predict well the propellant aging trends; however, some differences are observed at the bond part. Therefore, the specimen extraction part must be carefully chosen to suit the test purpose when a rocket motor grain is used for the aging test.

Influence of Reinforcing Systems on Thermal Aging Behaviors of NR Composites (충전 시스템이 NR 복합체의 열노화 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • Five natural rubber (NR) composites with different reinforcing systems of unfilled, carbon black, carbon black with silane coupling agent, silica, and silica with silane coupling agent were thermally aged and change of the crosslink densities by the accelerated thermal aging was investigated. The crosslink densities on the whole increased as the aging time elapsed irrespective of the reinforcing systems. The crosslink density changes became noticeable by increasing the aging temperature. For carbon black-filled composites, the silane coupling agent made the crosslink density change to be increased. For silica-filled composites, however, the silane coupling agent made the crosslink density increment reduced at 60 and $70^{\circ}C$ and it hardly affect the degree of the crosslink density change at 80 and $90^{\circ}C$. The activation energies for the crosslink density changes of the carbon black-filled samples increased continuously in a logarithmic fashion, whereas that of the silica-filled one showed a quasi-steady state ranges at aging times of 30-150 days. The activation energy of the unfilled sample increased exponentially with the aging time. The experimental results were explained with sulfur donation from the silane coupling agent, surface modification of the filler by the silane coupling agent, adsorption of curative residues on the silica surface, and release of the adsorbed curative residues.

  • Coolant rubber hoses for automotive radiators can degrade under thermal and mechanical loadings and thus fail owing to the influences of locally formed electricity. In this study, an advanced test method was developed to simulate the failure of a rubber hose. The aging behavior of carbon-black-filled ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber used as a radiator hose material under a combination of electrochemical stresses and tensile strain was analyzed. The changing behaviors of the current and the resistance as a function of the aging time were analyzed in consideration of the tensile strain, voltage, and aging temperature. Sectioned specimens clarified the failure mechanisms of the aged skin layer under the combined electrochemical stresses.

  • 피부 표면 굴곡의 측정은 피부의 광노화의 정량화 , 피부관련 약품 및 기능성 화장품의 효과 평가, 피부 질환 진단 등에 반드시 필요하다. 기존에 사용되던 측정법으로는 스타일러스 (Stylus)법, 그림자(Shadowing)법, Laser Profilometry법 등이 있으나 이 방법들은 해상도 및 속도, 가격 등에 있어서 일반적으로 사용되기에는 부적합하다. 본 연구에서는 이 단점들을 극복하고 더 나은 굴곡 측정을 위해서 높은 횡·종축 해상도를 얻을 수 있는 저 결맞음 간섭계 (Low Coherence Interferometry, LCI)를 이용하여 피부 표면의 굴곡을 측정하였다.(중략)

표면 사이즈용 전분이 백상지 품질에 미치는 영향

  • 종이 표변에 전분 사이징을 하는 목적은 종이가 액체에 대하여 침투저항성을 부여하 여 종이의 인쇄적성을 향상시키며 아울랴 종이의 표면적성과 종이강도 등의 물리적 특 성을 향상시키기 위해서 사용된다. 표면 사이징은 기본적으로 종이 표면에 전분을 이용 한 필름을 형성하여 종이 표면의 공극크기를 줄여 인쇄잉크 등과 같은 액체의 침투속 도를 늦여준다. 현재 국내에서 널리 사용되는 표면 사이징용 전분으로는 산화전분과 자 가변성용 일반전분이 있다. 자가변성용 전분은 효소나 APS로 전분의 chain 길이를 적 당한 점도로 잘라주는 것으로 전분 호액의 노화가 쉽게 일어나는 경향이 있다. 산화전 분은 전분회사에서 산화제를 이용하여 전분의 점도를 사용자의 요구에 따라 조절한 것 으로 water holdout이 개선되고 자가변성용 전분보다는 노화 안정성이 개선되지만 종 이 내부로의 칩투가 많이 일어나 전분 필름 강도가 약해지며 표면 강도 향상 효과가 적고 종이의 광학적 특성을 저하시키는 단점을 지니고 있다. 또한 약 10 ~ 20% 정도 사 용되는 파지의 재활용시 펄프 섬유에 흡착되지 않는 전분으로 인해 백수 내의 COD 및 B BOD를 증가시키는 원인이 된다.따라서 본 연구에서는 펄프 섬유와 친화력이 높아 지료 내첨용 지력증강제로 널리 사용되고 있는 양성 전분의 양이온 치환도 및 점도를 사이즈 프레스에 적합하게 조절 하여 백상지 제조업체의 라언에 적용하였다. 결과분석 항목으로는 파지 재활용에 따른 백수내 COD, 칼숨 이온함량 등의 백수 시스템의 변화와 종이의 물리적, 광학적 특성 및 ink jet 용지의 인쇄적성 등을 측정하여 산화전분과 비교하였다. 그 결과 약 20%의 C COD 감소 효과와 10%정도의 OPR 향상 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 종이 물성의 경우 인 장강도와 뺏뺏이(stiffness) 및 지분 등을 측정한 결과 산화전분 보다 향상되었다. 특히 지분의 경우, 참여한 회사의 지분관련 complain이 약 80% 정도 감소하는 결과를 나타 내었다. 또한 백상지의 경우 ink jet 프린터에 많이 사용됨으로 ink jet 프린터의 인쇄 적성을 image analyzer로 측정한 결과 산화전분 보다 향상된 결과를 나타내었다.

Appearance Contamination of EPDM Article from Water Solution (EPDM 소재의 수용액으로부터의 외관 오염)

  • An EPDM article was aged in air, distilled water, tap water, NaCl/$CaCl_2$ solution, and $CaCl_2/FeCl_3$ solution for 7 days. The aging temperature was $90^{\circ}C$. The samples aged in air and distilled water did not appear the whitening, those aged in tap water, NaCl/$CaCl_2$ solution, and $CaCl_2/FeCl_3$ solution showed the whitening. Soluble organic materials were analyzed using GC/MS to identify the whitening materials, surface morphology of the aged sample surface was examined using image analyzer and SEM, and elemental analysis of the materials accumulated on the sample surface was performed using EDX. Principal reason to cause whitening might be formation of metal salt of fatty acid by reaction between metal cation and fatty acid.

  • To minimize such loss due to aging, research on energetic materials is being actively conducted though, there are difficulties in identifying the comprehensive aging mechanisms as they focused on the respective materials. In this study, thermal and surface analysis were performed on energetic materials composed of metals(W, Ti, and Zr) and KClO4 oxidizer to solve the blind spots of this aging study. It was newly found that the metals in the hygrothermally aged compounds can cause significant changes in performance. For example, the growth in the thickness of the oxide film on the metals led to an increase in the average value of activation energy(Eα). In addition, the standard deviation of Eα tends to dependent on the type of metal, which is due to the difference in electronegativity.

  • 소수성인 폴리올레핀계를 친수성화하여 고분자의 표면특성을 개량하거나 고분자 재료 표면에 새로운 기능을 부여하고자 하는 연구가 1970년대부터 계속되고 있다. 이러한 고분자의 표면 특성개질에 대한 연구는 보통 고분자의 도장성, 인쇄성, 접착성, 젖음성 들을 개선하기 위한 것이다. 그 중 재료의 표면층 만을 효율적으로 개질 시키는 저온 플라즈마 처리법은 낮은 기압에서 행하는 글로우 방전법과 대기압 부근에서 행하는 코로나 방전법으로 나눌 수 있으며, 특히 대기압하에서 코로나 방전을 이용한 표면개질법은 산업현장에서 연속적이면서 고속으로 처리할 수 있고 취급이 용이하다는 장점 때문에 표면개질에 있어서 현재 널리 사용되고 있는 방법중 하나이다[1].
