  • The purpose of this study was to analyze how consumers make links between convenience meat products and self-relevant consequences and value. Surveys on convenience meat product consumption patterns and hard laddering based on means-end chain theory were conducted from April 21 to April 25, 2014 and targeted 200 consumers in the US. The most preferred cooking method of convenience meat product was roast (25.9%) and the most common information medium was suggestions by friends and parents (37.1%). The main as well as desired places of purchasing were both the supermarket (33.6% and 27.3%, respectively). The most preferred promotion method was free sample events (38.5%). From analyzing means-end chains of convenience meat products, the most dominant value chain was 'taste (A)'-'good taste (C)'-'feel good (V)'. These results show that consumption of convenience meat products will increase when consumer expectations of taste and satisfaction are met. Further, results of the value measurement provide information on consumer satisfaction and needs and can be applied to set marketing strategies for Korean style convenience meat products.

  • Male consumers, who had largely been overlooked in comparison to their female counterparts, are recently emerging as a major target of marketing. The five-day workweek system and shifts in the expectation of traditional sex roles have brought about this change. This study examined changes in consumption pattems of men and analyzed relevant trends and meanings. Advertisements were chosen as data for analyses in this study because they are the most fundamental tool to stimulate consumption and also because they are the media that convey the culture of the times in the most compressed form. One thousand four hundred and seven advertisements appeared in the 19 volumes of 'Gentlemen's Quarterly,' a men's magazine, that were published between March 2001 and October 2005. These advertisements were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. From the analyses of this study, six different kinds of trends were found. In each trend, important values sought after by men through consumption, and the meanings of consumption for male consumers were explained.

  • This study compared and analyzed Japan and China, two major competitors to Korea, in the male cosmetics market, which has been shifted dramatically by the outbreak of COVID-19, with implications for the ASEAN market in mind. Questionnaire copies collected from 300 men in Generation MZ living in Korea, China, and Japan were used for analysis, and SPSS 21.0 was used to conduct a statistical analysis of the collected questionnaires. The following are this study's results: First, this study identified their purchase behaviors. The average amount of money the male respondents spent on buying cosmetics was below KRW 30,000 in Korea, China, and Japan. Functionality and texture ranked as top factors contributing to cosmetics purchases in all the three countries. Second, with regard to brands preferred by the respondents, Korea and China were open to foreign brands, while Japan mostly preferred its domestic brands. Functionality and texture ranked as top factors contributing to cosmetics purchase in all the three countries. Second, with regard to brands preferred by the respondents, Korea and China were open to foreign brands, while Japan mostly preferred its domestic brands. Third, this study found changes in the use of cosmetics since the outbreak of COVID-19. The respondents' biggest skin concern since COVID-19 was acne in Korea and Japan and increased sebum excretion in China. Concerns about sebum were commonly ranked high across the three countries. Based on these results, this study is suggested as a reference to improve the export competitiveness of Korean male cosmetics in the ASEAN market.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance on male consumers' apparel buying behavior and appearance management behavior. The subjects were 353 males aged from 40 to 59 years old. The research method was a survey and the questionnaire consisted of sociocultural attitude toward appearance items, apparel buying behaviors items, appearance management behaviors items, and subjects' demographic characteristics items. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, cluster analysis, multiple response analysis, ${\chi}2$ test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test. The results were as follows. Three dimensions (appearance importance awareness, slimness importance awareness, internalization) were emerged on sociocultural attitude toward appearance, and subjects were divided into 4 groups(receptive, unreceptive, awareness, and internalized group) by this variable. The 4 groups by sociocultural attitude toward appearance showed many differences on apparel buying behaviors and appearance management behaviors. Receptive and internalized group more importantly regarded fashion trend and store display as apparel buying motives, design and trend as selection criteria, and did shopping to buy clothes more often than awareness and unreceptive group. Receptive and internalized group recognized higher the need for various appearance management behaviors and spent more expense to enhance their appearance than other groups.

  • This study examined the relationship between Korean male consumers' perceptions of marketing promotion investment such as advertising expenditure and celebrity endorsement are the brand equity elements. It also compared if there were differences on this research model and two groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin in fashion product purchasing. Online survey responses from 414 Korean men in their 20s-30s were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling analysis (SEM). Perceptions of advertising expenditures were found to be positively related to brand association in only the group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results showed a non-significant effect of perceptions for advertising expenditures on perceived product quality in both groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin. The results indicated that celebrity endorsement had a significant effect on brand association for the two male consumer groups. The results also demonstrated that the relationship of celebrity endorsement and perceived quality was significant in only a group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results also revealed that the effect of brand association and perceived product quality on brand preference was significant in both male consumer groups. This study has useful managerial implications for enhancing the effectiveness of investment in advertising activities.

  • This study identified the internal motives for the purchase behavior of Korean male consumers in multi-brand fashion stores by conducting in-depth interviews with 8 men in their 20s and 30s. All respondents had significant experience with this type of store. Data were analyzed in an inductive way and compared with Bohemianism to interpret and described the results as a recent phenomenon of men's fashion. The five internal motives were extracted from analysis: the pursuit of freedom of expression, the counter-cultural resistance to department stores and domestic fashion brands, which tend to copy designs from international brands, the pursuit of mobility and adventure for trying to search and wear a new fashion style, the pursuit of pleasure through store experience, and the pursuit of artistic value by considering goods purchased in multi-brand fashion stores as artistic and cultural goods.
