This paper presents an experimental study on the failure characteristics of SnAgCu lead-free solder balls. To estimate the effect of Ag, three types of SnAgCu balls are first prepared by varying the weight percent of Ag(1.0, 3.0, 4.0 wt%) and then analyzed by reliability tests such as thermal shock, high speed ball shear, and drop tests. Thermal shock test reveals that the higher the weight percent of Ag is, the longer the fatigue lift becomes. To the contrary, high speed ball-shear test and drop test show that the shear strength and the fracture toughness of solder balls are inversely proportional to the weight percent of Ag, respectively, Reasons for these observations will be further investigated In the future work.

In this study the structural design concepts of main parameters of a Cathode Ray Tube(CRT) such as frame spring and shadow mask were proposed to guarantee a failure-proof CRT under mechanical shock. With computer simulation and experiments some information on the structural design concept was obtained as followings: the frame and the shadow mask of the CRT needed designing to increase strength so double-beads shape at the corner of frame was newly designed for it, And the spring which interconnected frame with panel glass was required to deform elastically for the purpose of absorbing the shock energy in the direction of drop. A new type of spring 'twisting spring' was designed to achieve the flexibility in that direction. By using it the deformation energy of a shadow mask could reduced to some degree. To accomplish those simulations commerical codes Pam-Crash and I-DEAS were used and a typical CRT was analyzed as an example to prove the usefulness of this study.

Polyurethane foam is the most efficient, high-performance insulation material, used for liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC) insulation. Because LNGC is exposed to sloshing impact load due to ship motion of 6 degrees of freedom, polyurethane foam should be sufficient dynamic properties. The dynamic properties of these polyurethane foam depends on temperature and density. Therefore, this study investigates the dynamic response of polyurethane foam for various temperature($25^{\circ}C$, $-70^{\circ}C$, $-163^{\circ}C$) and density($90kg/m^3$, $113kg/m^3$, $134kg/m^3$, $150kg/m^3$) under drop impact test with impact energy of 20J, 50J, and 80J. For dynamic response was evaluated in terms of peak force, peak displacement, absorb energy, and the mechanical property with minimized density effects. The results show the effect of temperature and density on the polyurethane foam material for the dynamic response.

Rotorcrafts have more severe crashworthiness conditions than fixed wing aircraft owing to VTOL and hovering. Recently, with the increasing demand for highly efficient transportation system, application of composite materials to aircraft structures is increasing. However, due to the characteristics of composite materials that are susceptible to impact and crash, demand to prove the crashworthiness of composite structures is also increasing. The purpose of present study is to derive the structural concept of composite subfloor for rotorcrafts and verify it. In order to design a crashworthy composite subfloor, the conceptual design of the testbed helicopter for the demonstration and the derivation of energy absorbing requirement were carried out, and the composite energy absorber was designed and verified. Finally, the testbed for the demonstration of a crashworthy composite structure was fabricated, and performed free drop test. It was confirmed that the test results meet the criteria for ensuring occupant survivability.

The purpose of this study is to suggest performance levels, a test method, and assessment criteria for the performance assessment to allow standardized tests for rockfall protection systems. The range of rockfall impact energy was determined by using domestic rockfall data and a total of 9 performance levels from 50kJ to 1500kJ were suggested. The performance assessment is implemented by two types of full-scale free-fall impact tests to investigate the serviceability and the maximum capacity as in European and American standards. It was considered to be reasonable that the specimens of rockfall protection systems consist of 3 spans and the concrete block of a polyhedron with 26 faces, similar to spheres, impacts at the center of a center span. Assessment criteria were constructed to investigate whether a rockfall penetrated rockfall protection systems and whether the deformed specimen encroached on the roadway or obstructed the vehicle traffic.

Recently the residual strength of damaged tubulars under axial compression has extensively been investigated. However, in spite of the possibility of damage onto underwater members of offshore structures as results of collisions, dropped objects and other accidental impacts occurring in service or during fabrication or installation, no research works on the structural behaviour of damaged tubulars under combined loadings including hydrostatic pressure have been reported in the literature. In this paper, a numerical method has been proposed to estimate the residual strength of damaged tubulars under combined loadings, and then the proposed method has been substantiated with corresponding test data. A simple design equation has been derived based upon the results of the parametric study using the proposed method. The accuracy of the predictions using the derived equation is found to be a 10.1% COV(Coefficient of Variation) together with an 1. 037 mean comparing with the test data.

Dust is mostly caused by human activity. The effect of natural factors on dust emission were studied in many research, but the little effort in researching artificial factors of dust emission. The object of study is to analysis dust emission characteristic by drop impact. Particle matter $10{\mu}m$ ($PM_{10}$) was measured by drop impact on paved soil with changing drop height, weight and drop size. Increasing drop height cause more $PM_{10}$ emission. Increasing drop weight cause more $PM_{10}$ emission but had limit weight for increasing dust emission. Because the exceed kinetic energy of drop weight penetrate the soil surface. The limit perimeter was exist that separating $PM_{10}$ emission aspect. Under limit perimeter, $PM_{10}$ emission was increasing while perimeter was increasing, but over limit perimeter showed the opposite aspect. Regression equations for estimating $PM_{10}$ with kinetic energy and perimeter were made under limit perimeter and over limit perimeter. The $R^2$ of those equations were 0.784, 0.743. The error has occurred between measured $PM_{10}$ and calculated $PM_{10}$ in the equation under limit perimeter. But using equation of case for over limit perimeter, PM10 can be estimated with kinetic energy and drop perimeter.
Expanded polystyrene(EPS) foams are often used in packaging to protect electrical appliances from impact loads. The energy absorbing performances of the EPS foams depend on several parameters such as density, microstructure and strain rate. Thus, the effects of the parameters on the strength of the EPS foams need to be investigated for an optimized packaging design by FEM. In this study, various EPS foams which have different densities were quasi-statically and dynamically loaded in order to obtain the stress-strain curves. EPS foams of various densities from 18.5 to 37.0kg/m3 were considered in the experiments. A drop-mass type apparatus was developed for the intermediate strain rate tests up to several hundreds/second. It was found from the experimental results that the strength of the EPS foams increase about 170% as the strain rate increases from 0.06/s to 60/s. Experimental results also showed that the strain rate sensitivity increases as the strain increases.
In this paper, the fracture behaviour at CFRP laminated structure due to the vertical falling impact of the fight drone frame composed of CFRP was investigated through the analytical study. As CFRP consists of fiber differently from the existing plastic material, the fracture behaviour becoms complex. So, the preceding study is important through the analytical study before this experiment. By comparing with the existing study model at the same condition as the result of this study, the applied stress value is shown to decrease greatly at the analysis model with the center notch hole of the laminated CFRP drone frame. On the basis of this study result, the esthetic sense can be shown as the foundation data about the notch hole of drone frame are grafted onto the convergence technique.

While the structural safety assessment of Cargo Containment System(CCS) in membrane type LNG carriers has to be carried out in consideration of sloshing impact pressure, it is very difficult to figure out its dynamic response behaviors due to its very complex structural arrangements/materials and complicated phenomena of sloshing impact loading. For the development of its original technique, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of dynamic response behavior of CCS structure under sloshing impact pressure. In this study, for the exact understanding of dynamic response behavior of CCS structure in membrane Mark III type LNG carriers under sloshing impact pressure, its wet drop impact response analyses were carried out by using Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI) analysis technique of LS-DYNA code, and were also validated through a series of wet drop experiments for the enhancement of more accurate shock response analysis technique. It might be thought that the structural response behaviors of impact response analysis, such as impact pressure impulses and resulted strain time histories, generally showed very good agreement with experimental ones with very appropriate use of FSI analysis technique of LS-DYNA code, finite element modeling and material properties of CCS structure, finite element modeling and equation of state(EOS) of fluid domain.
