  • The size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete in notched specimens was experimentally investigated. Based on the concept of the fracture mechanics and size effect law, theoretical studies for axial compressive failure of concrete were reviewed, and two failure modes of concrete specimen under compression were discussed. In this study, experiment of axial compressive failure, which is one of the two failure modes, was carried out by using double cantilever fracture specimens. By varying the slenderness of cantilevers and the eccentricity of applied loads with respect to the axis of each cantilever, the size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated, and predicted by Bazant's size effect law. The test results show that size effect appears conspicuously for all series of specimens. For the eccentricity of loads, the influence of tensile and compressive stress at the notch tip are significant and so that the size effect is varied. In other words, if the influence of tensile stress at the notch tip grows up, the size effect of concrete increases. And the fact that the fracture process zone must be sufficiently secured for more accurate experiment was affirmed.

  • Since IT industry has changed very rapidly in technology, market environments, the cyber communities raise new social space. In spite of such growth of cyber communities, academic discussion is relatively limited. This Paper suggested several factors that affect the level of participator's loyalty on cyber communities. Participator's loyalty was classified into two categories, the psychological loyalty, which measure the psychological responses, and the behavior loyalty, which measure the absorption of time, the volume and frequency of visit to cyber communities. Consequently, this research has showed social awareness about cyber community culture and suggested the strategy directions for customer-oriented cyber Community Company.

  • The compressor is one of major noise sources in air conditioner outdoor units, especially deteriorating the sound quality. Therefore, the sound insulation materials layered with sound absorption materials are applied around compressors. In this study, the performance of the sound insulators is examined by measuring the insertion losses in power base and the effects of sound absorption materials, method of application and the shape of the insulators are also investigated. The importance of minimizing the opening is revealed well.

Based on the concept of the fracture mechanics and size effect law, theoretical studies for axial compressive failure of concrete were reviewed, and two failure modes of concrete specimens under compression were discussed. In this study, experiments of axial compressive failure, which is one of the two failure modes, was carried out by using cylindrical specimens. Adequate notch length was taken from the experimental result of strength variation based on the notch length. And, by taking various sizes of specimens the size effect on axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated. Also, model equations were suggested by modified size effect law (MSEL). The test results show that size effect appears conspicuously for all series of specimens. Additionally, the effect of initial notch length on axial compressive strength was also apparent.

  • To increase the applicability and productivity of hydroforming process, hydro-embedding process was developed by combining the hydro-forming process with embedding process simultaneously. It is necessary in the automotive parts to form hollow bodies with connection elements which combine one part with another. The hydro-embedding process is embedding the connection element hydraulically during the operating steps of the hydroforming. In this study, technique of rotational piercing is added on the existing hydro-embedding to increase the connection force of hydro-embedded element. To estimate the feasibility of new trial process, integrated researches on the hydro-embedding process technology have been performed by analyzing the deformed mode of the tubes and the optimal process parameters for various shapes of the connection elements.

  • An improvement in the optical and structural properties of p-GaN was obtained by using antimony (Sb) as a surfactant during p-GaN growth. Two different growth temperatures of p-GaN such as $1030^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ were considered. Keeping the growth conditions for p-GaN constant, Sb was introduced during p-GaN growth while varying the [Sb]/([Ga]+[Mg]) flow ratio. [Sb]/([Ga]+[Mg]) flow ratio will be denoted as SGM ratio for convenience. SGM ratio of 0, 0.015 and 0.03% were considered for high temperature p-GaN growth. SGM ratio of 0, 0.005, 0.01 and 0.02% were considered for low temperature p-GaN growth. The analysis results suggest that using the optimum SGM ratio during p-GaN growth greatly improves the optical and structural properties of the p-GaN.

  • A novel electrochemical potentiostatic method has been examined in order to enhance the hole concentration of p-type GaN thin films using KOH and HCl electrolyte. The hole concentration was increased more than 2 times by the electric voltge apply with the mobility of $10{\sim}12cm^2/V.s$. At optimum condition of 3V apply, hole concentration was enhanced more than reference sample from $1.7{\times}10^{-17}cm^{-3}$ to $4.1{\times}10^{-17}cm^{-3}$. Application of this activation method to blue-LED fabrication improved optical output from 18.4mW to 20.6mW, that is ~12% increase. SIMS analysis indicates that nearly 70% of hydrogen atoms could be removed by this method.

  • Flow forming is an incremental forming process in which rollers are used to form cylindrical parts with repeated turning of both roller and starting material. Both sheet and tube can be used as the starting material. The process is highly useful for producing hollow shaped parts from a tube, with the benefit of the average strain in the final shape being significantly lower than that from a sheet material. In the present study, the flow forming process was studied and optimized for producing a hollow shaped part from seamless steel tube by both experiment and numerical analysis. Upon considering the difficulty of forming seamless steel sheet, the thickness reduction was distributed over several tool paths. In the end, an optimum process condition was attained, and the experiment verified the simulation results.

  • The rotary compressor is widely used for the air conditioner because it is efficient and compact. In recent, the need for silent compressors is much stronger than the past. The new type muffler was invented to reduce noise level and to improve sound quality. The new type muffler that has two side discharge holes represents much lower overall noise level, especially noise levels around 1KHz than the old type one that has one center discharge hole in acoustic spectra and dynamic pressure spectra. The noise reduction effects of the new type muffler were verified by noise tests for rotary compressors and air conditioners.
