Analysis of the Meaning of through the Application of Semiontics (기호학 적용을 통한 의 의미 분석)

  • Semiotics studies the structures and systems of all signs related to human life, thus being capable of analyzing games. "Playing games" can be deemed as an act of reading or interpreting games semiotically, which makes game producers "senders," games "texts," gamers "receivers," and gamers playing games "contexts." Since most games are in the multi-variable narrative format, however, it is not a frequent case that gamers interpret games in the ways intended by producers. This study thus set out to analyze and interpret the console game (2001) remembered as the same evaluation by many gamers in the way intended by the producer. For analysis, the study defined its story program by analyzing the plot and sequence. For semantic analysis, the study applied the Actor Model and the Semiotic Square Model to interpret . The process identified such codes as confrontation, assistance, collaboration, and control and confirmed that Ico and Yorda, non-subject characters, were transforming into subject ones. That is, tells a story of the main characters that used to lead a non-subject life earning lives of their own.

A Semiotic Analysis of the Formation of Ecologically Educational Place Identity through Nature Trails in National Parks (국립공원 자연관찰로를 통한 생태교육적 장소정체성 형성에 대한 기호학적 해석)

  • This study aimed to find out the formation of ecologically educational place identity of nature trails in national parks, which elementary school students to adults can understand, by analyzing the connectivity between characteristics (signs) of nature trails and elementary science environment-related key concepts and the domain of ecological education in the course of environment and by developing a semiotic interpretation model of place identity based on Barthes's semiotic theory. When analyzing correlations between the interpretation board-focused surrounding environment of nature trails and the content system of ecological education, this study found out that it showed the highest connectivity with the domain of 'System of Ecological Environment'. When analyzing the formation of place identity of nature trails in terms of semiotics, this study discovered that geographical locations or landscapes, artificial environments and physical elements as characteristics of surrounding environments mostly acted on the formation of placeness. Besides, it was found that both knowledge and attachment elements equally could act on the formation of a sense of place. Being likely to develop through interaction between placeness and a sense of place, place identity was mostly composed of behavioral internal stages and sympathetic internal stages. To diversify the formation of place identity, however, this study found it necessary to develop environment education projects and create surrounding environments and interpretation boards with the environmental uniqueness of nature trails reflected much more.

Semiotic Analysis of the Inscriptions Representing Concept of Atom and Molecule in the 9th Grade Science Textbooks (중학교 3학년 과학 교과서에서 원자 및 분자 개념을 표상한 시각자료의 기호학적 분석)

  • In this study we investigated the types of inscriptions representing the concept of atom and molecule in the 9th grade science textbooks developed under the 7th National Curriculum, and analyzed the processes of interpreting those inscriptions on the view of semiotics. The concept of atom and molecule was represented in various ways such as circular diagram, matters of everyday life, ball-and-stick, and STM graphic, etc. We identified two kinds of inscriptions on the basis of the possibilities of handling models: the inscriptions that represent concept of atom and molecule by image; the inscriptions that represent concept of atom and molecule by using specific matters. We analyzed the processes of interpreting inscriptions systematically with a semiotic model that includes ‘structuring processes' and ‘translating processes'. The interpretation of inscriptions representing concept of atom and molecule was a complex process requiring many steps of interpreting works. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

Semiotic Approach to the Representation Process of Time in Cinema (영화의 시간성 표현을 위한 기호학적 모델의 제언 -들뢰즈 "운동-이미지"의 기호화 과정을 중심으로-)

  • This paper proposed semiotic model to explain representation process of time in cinema. Limitations of cinematic narratology which explain representation process of time in cinema were indicated, then alternative explanations of Deleuzian philosophy of cinema were proposed. After discussion about articulations of cinematic code, Deleuzian concept of movement-image was suggested as semiotic minimal unit of cinema. In cinema, Movement-image is divided two different aspects ; "normal movement-image" and "abnormal movement-image". Therefore, two different semiotic representation process of time was reconstructed in accordance with Peircean semiosis theory. In this two different semiotic process, modern cinema emphasize the direct representation process of time with "abnormal movement-image". As Deleuze indicated, The "time-image" is presented in this semiotic process. The "time-image" makes it possible to consider "time itself" as philosophical fact which is laid between reality and cinema, This semiotic process more emphasizes pure expressionality than representationality. Deleuzian philosophical journey through cinema was started in this point.

  • Based on the Hartenberg-Denavit symbolic equation, which is one of equations for the kinematic analysis of three dimensional (3-D) linkage, a generalized kinematic motion equation is derived utilizing Euler angles and employing the coordinates transformation. The derived equation can feasibly be used for the motion analysis of any type of 3-D linkages as well as 2-D ones. In order to simulate the general motion of 3-D linkgages on digital computer, the generalized equation is programmed through the process of numerical analysis after converting the equation to the type of Newton-Raphson formula and denoting it in matrix form. The feasibility of theoretically derived equation is experimentally proved by comparing the results from the computer with those from experimental setup of three differrent but generally empolyed 3-D linkages.

Students' Comprehension and Interpretation Process of InscriptionsRepresenting the Concept of Atom and Molecule (원자 및 분자 개념을 표상한 시각자료에 대한 중학생들의 이해 및 해석 과정)

  • In this study, the 9th grade students were interviewed to explore their comprehension and interpretation processes of inscriptions representing the concept of atom and molecule. We used a semiotic model for the interview and the analysis of result. The research result revealed that the students performed structuring processes of interpreting inscriptions successfully, but they had a difficulty with translating processes for attaining the target concept or for connecting an inscription with another inscription. Translating processes of connecting inscription with text showed a different result according to achievement level of each student. On the other hand, all the interviewees showed similar sequences in the processes of interpreting inscriptions. Educational implications of these findings were discussed.

구조생성기호학적 관점에서의 디지털게임의 의미생성방식 연구 - 스타크래프트, 리니지, 스페셜포스에 대한 분석을 중심으로 -

  • 게임에서의 텍스트를 추출하고 이를 분석하고자 하였다. 기본적으로 그레마스의 구조생성기호학을 활용하여 텍스트를 분석하고자 하였는데, 연구방법론에서는 현상학, 해석에서는 정신분석학의 이론에서도 도움을 받았다. 구체적인 분석대상으로는 온라인게임인 스타크래프트, 리니지, 스페셜포스를 선택하였다. 연구문제는 이들 세 게임의 의미생성방식에 대한 탐구로 구성되었다. 각 게임의 의미생성방식은 구조생성기호학의 세 가지 층위에서 구분되어 연구되었다. 즉, 심층구조, 기호-설화구조, 담화구조의 세층위로 전환, 발화되면서 점진적으로 의미가 풍성해지는 과정이 탐구되었다. 각 게임의 차이, 나아가 게임 장르간의 차이는 주로 심층 수준의 차이에서 기인한다고 보인다. 이들 게임의 주요 공통점이자, 다른 매체와의 차이점은 행동자 모델에서 두드러지는데, 바로 이용자가 스스로 주체의 위치를 점하게 되는 것이다. 상호작용성으로 대변되는 게임의 특성은 이용자의 텍스트로의 적극적인 개입을 할 수 있게끔 한다. 이러한 적극적인 개입은 이용자가 스스로 텍스트의 주체가 되도록 허용하는데, 주체가 된다고 함은 곧 스스로의 욕망을 직접 대상에 투사하면서 텍스트를 창출함을 의미한다. 바로 이러한 점이 게임의 의미생성방식의 큰 특징이며 다른 매체들과의 주요한 차이점이기도 하다. 더불어 게임이 우리 문화와 사회에 커다란 영향을 미칠 수 있는 기제임이 입증되는 것이기도 하다.

A Semiotic Analysis on Mathematization in Mathematical Modeling Process (수학적 모델링 과정에서 수학화의 기호학적 분석)

  • Though the term "mathematical modeling" has no single definition or perspective, it is pursued commonly by groups from various perspectives who emphasize the activities of understanding and representing real phenomenon mathematically, building models to solve problems, and reinterpreting real phenomenon to make an attempt to understand the real world and related mathematical models more deeply. The purpose of this study is to identify how mathematization arises and find difficulties of mathematization in mathematical modeling process that share common features with the mathematical modeling activities as presented here. As a result of this research, we confirmed that the students mathematized real phenomena by building various representations, and interpreting them with regard to relationships and contexts inherent real phenomena. The students' communication fostered interplay between iconic representations and indexical representations. We also identified difficulties of mathematization in mathematical modeling process.

A Semiological Interpretation of the Koreaness in Paris Park, Seoul (파리공원에 반영된 한국성의 기호학적 해석 -예름슬레우 모델을 중심으로-)

  • Although built-environment has not only function but also socio-cultural meanings, the latter is neglected in the modernism. People don't have the identity of their place because they can't communicate with environment. Therefore, expressing the socio-curtural meanings in landscape is one of main issues after the modern era. The meanings of phenomena can be analyzed by the Semiology based on Structurism, the methodology which has been developed in Linguistics and Anthropology since 1900's. The purpose of this study is to adapt Helmslev's model that can effectively explain the meanings of built-environment and interpret the Koreaness, one of important meanings in contemporary urban park, Paris park. The following methods are used for achieving the purpose. 1. Adaptation of the Helmslev's model for interpreting the urban park. 2. Interpretation of the Paris park. 3. Making the types of interpretion of Paris park. The results are as followings: 1. Helmslev's model can explain the content and expression of the urban park in denotation and connotation. 2. Th socio-cultural meanings of Paris park are the relationship of France, Yan and Yin theory, philosophy of Samjae, king's authority. And they are expressed in the pattern of paving, the shape of mounds, fountain, and pond, a picture of the wall, colours of lightings and columns, and a mark of bollards.

반응표면분석에 의한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 이화학적 및 관능적 특성 변화

  • 현대 사회는 서구적인 식생활의 변화로 인해 조리가 간편하고 조리 시간이 짧은 즉석식품과 영양 기호식품을 동시에 충족시켜주는 음식에 대한 소비가 늘고 있는 실정이다. 또한 최근 미곡의 공급량에 비해서 소비량이 해마다 감소하여 재고미의 증가를 볼 때, 쌀의 새로운 이용방법 모색이 절실히 요망된다. 따라서 쌀의 소비촉진과 현대사회의 소비형태를 접목시켜서 쇠고기와 야채를 이용한 즉석쌀죽을 개발하고자 하였다. 쇠고기, 야채 및 쌀가루를 이용한 soup mix의 최적 배합비를 설정하기 위하여 제조조건에 따라 다르게 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 이화학적 및 관능적 특성에 미치는 변화를 조사하였다. 이때 야채의 배합비에 따른 이화학적 및 관능적 특성을 모니터링 하고자 반응표면분석법 (response surface methodology, RSM)을 이용하였다. 요인변수(Xn)를 쌀의 양에 대한 버섯의 비율 (X$_1$), 당근의 비율 (X$_2$), 대파의 비율 (X$_3$)로 하여 중심합성계획에 따라 17실험구로 구분하여 조리실험을 실시하였고, 반응변수(Yn)는 soup mix를 이용하여 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 이화학적 특성인 색도의 L*값 (Y$_1$), a*값 (Y$_2$), b*값 (Y$_3$), 점도(Y$_4$), 퍼짐성 (Y$_{5}$), 고형분 함량(Y$_{6}$), PH (Y$_{7}$)으로 하였으며 관능적 특성인 색 (Y$_{8}$), 향 (Y$_{9}$), 점성 (Y$_{10}$), 맛 (Y$_{11}$), 전체적인 기호도 (Y$_{12}$)를 종속변수로 하여 회귀분석에 이용하였다. 회귀분석에 의한 모델식의 예측에는 SAS (statistical analysis system)program을 사용하였으며, 3차원 반응표면 분석법으로 해석하였다. 야채의 배합비에 따라 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 물리적 특성인 색도의 L*, a*, b* 값에 대한 반응표면 회귀식의 $R^2$은 각각 0.6098(p> 0.05), 0.8803 (p <0.05), 0.6781(p> 0.05)로서 b값에 있어서 그 유의성이 5%수준에서 인정되어 b값에 미치는 영향이 크다는 것을 알 수 있었다. L*값은 63-68사이로, a*값은 0.13에서 -0.89사이를 b*값은 2-5값 사이에서 변화하여 제조한 죽의 색이 옅은 황색임을 알 수 있었다. 고형분 함량, 퍼짐성과 pH에 대한 $R^2$은 각각 0.4280, 0.5433과 0.2406임을 볼 때 버섯, 당근, 대파의 비율에 따라 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 고형분 함량, 퍼짐성과 pH는 설정된 범위내에서 그 유의성이 인정되지 않아 큰 영향을 미치지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 관능검사 결과, 색과 향에 대한 반응표면 회귀식의 $R^2$은 각각0.6000과 0.7825이고 P-value는 각각 0.4290과 0.0942로서 5% 수준에서 유의한 상관성이 없음을 확인할 수 있었다. 맛과 점성에 대한 $R^2$은 0.8717과 0.8068이고 P-value는 각각 0.0195 (p <0.05)와 0.0612로서 야채의 배합비에 따라 맛에 있어서 유의확률 5%수준에서 그 유의성이 인정되었으며, 전체적인 기호도에 대한 유의성은 $R^2$이 0.8463이고 P-value는 0.0344 (p <0.05)임을 볼 때, 설정된 범위내에서 야채의 배합비에 따라 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 맛과 기호도에 큰 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 최대 임계점이 버섯의 첨가량은 0.99%, 당근의 첨가량은 0.97%, 대파의 첨가량은 0.59%에서 최적 반응표면을 나타내었다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때, 야채의 배합비에 따른 맛과 전체적인 기호도에 있어서 그 유의성이 5%수준에서 모두 유의한 상관관계를 보였으며, soup mix 제조시 쌀가루 양에 대한 야채의 최적 배합비는 버섯, 당근, 대파에 있어서 각각 0.99, 0.97과 0.59%임을 알 수 있었다.
