  • Fiction is a collection that most students read and borrow in school libraries. KDC has several limitations when students look for fiction books they need. In line with this, we surveyed various cases of fiction classifications used in libraries, bookstores, and publishers and use behaviors of fiction of middle school students. Based upon the result of the surveys, we proposed a better way of classifying fiction books according to user needs. In addition to the KDC number, color bands were attached according to genres so that users could easily find the desired books. These suggestions and other information will enhance the accessibility and discoverability to fiction books for middle school students and may be used as reference materials for fiction classification in libraries, bookstores, and publishers in the future.

  • The culture industrial design classification is the major factor to develop the various potential abilities, promote a new value to change and maximize the competitiveness of industry and the nation. Accordingly it is important to comprehensively understand and recognize the changing of this new design paradigm with its structural contents. In order to have universality data need to be made a classification system in advance for the policy, strategy, analysis indicator and assessing the culture industrial design classification. This study build CIDC that structure divided into three sections(A,B,C) with divisions(medium), classes(small) and groups(specific field) of numeric code from "01" or "001" and increasing their numbers. CIDC is set up in order to search for differences and referential character through comparisons with design-related classification systems as well as making a role of the basic under data for this field.c under data for this field.

  • It's a trend that the proportion of using an internet messenger among on-line communication methods is getting increased. However, there are not many applications which efficiently utilize these messenger communication data. Messenger communication data have specific characteristics that reflect the user's linguistic habits. The linguistic habits are revealed through frequently used words and emoticons, and user's emotions can be grasped by these. This paper proposes the method that efficiently classifies the emotions of a messenger user using frequently used words or symbols. The emotion classifier from repeated experiments achieves high accuracy of more than 95%.

  • The purposes of this study are to review the historical development of food and culture in the KDC (Korean Decimal Classification) and to propose improvements of the KDC to classify materials of food and culture by using the KDC effectively. First of all, changes of classification numbers and headings related to food and culture from the 1st edition to the 5th edition of the KDC were examined. Recent books about food and culture were examined and were classified according to the latest edition of the KDC. Several problems were found including a lack of headings, including notes in food and culture, a lack of headings about Korean foods in particular and reflections about various foods from other countries, a lack of detailed relative headings, and the remaining western oriented headings. Other classification systems about food and culture were analyzed and it was found that there was a need to have new headings for classifying Korean traditional foods and table services, new formats for a relative index, detailed notes, and changes in western oriented headings.

  • To make vector data from a map which has no negative plates by using vectoring tool, it is necessary that we can extract objects to be vectorized from a scanned map. In this paper, we studied on extracting vectoring objects from scanned color maps. To do this, we classified vectoring objects into three types : line type, filled - area type and character/symbol type. To make the extraction method effective, we analyzed characteristics of vectoring objects and color distribution in scanned color maps. Then, we applied these characteristics to designing process of the extraction method. To extract the line type object, our line tracing method was designed by using the masks which considered connectivity and geometrical characteristics of lines. By using the local thresholding method and the similarity function for comparing the color distribution between two NxN blocks, we extracted character/symbol and the filled-area objects effectively. The method proposed in this paper can be used for constructing the small scale GIS application economically using existing color maps.

  • In this paper, a neural network architecture which can extract map symbols by being based on the results of physiological and neuropsychological studies on pattern recognition is proposed. This network is composed of multi-layers and synaptic activities of combining layers are implemented by spatial filters which approximate receptive fields of optic nerve cells. In pattern recognition which is followed by color classification for extracting of map symbols from input image, this network is searching for candidatepoints in lower layers (layer 2, 3) by using local features such as lines and end-points and then processing symbols recognition on those points in upper layer(layer 4) by using global features.

  • This paper proposes a methodology for automatic hierarchy classification of subtitles in a engineering document by the a fact that heading symbols of subtitles represent a hierarchical structure of the document. The proposed methodology is composed of two methods: extracting subtitles from plan text document and determining hierarchical structure of the subtitles. The subtitles in a document is extracted by comparing heading symbol patterns with predefined heading symbol groups, and the depth levels of the subtitles are determined by analyzing relative location of subtitles according to change of the heading symbol patterns. A prototype module, which can transform a plain text document into a structured XML document in accordance with a hierarchical structure of subtitles, is developed based on the proposed methodology, and the performance of the module is analyzed with 20 engineering documents.

  • In this paper, we examine the methodology to predict consumer preferences using several groups of attributes of products and application to real data. In the food industry, studies are in progress to investigate the relationship between product attributes and consumer preferences; consequently, various methodologies are proposed. Among these methodologies, we consider multiple factor analysis (MFA). The result of the MFA enable the division of consumers into four clusters with similar liking and the defining of preference characteristics for each cluster. Also, using the results of multiple factor analysis, we find the partial least squares path model to predict consumer preferences through the characteristics of the product and the characteristics evaluated by consumers. We can understand the relationship between the cluster of consumers and the preferred/undesirable characteristics of products through the partial least squares path model applied to two clusters with different liking. When multiple factor analysis is used in the partial least squares path model, it is possible to investigate relationships between products and consumers by analyzing product characteristics and consumer preferences simultaneously. The results can be applied to product developments and sales which makes this methodology important and useful.

  • The purposes of this study are to review characteristics and research areas of environmental studies; to compare and analyze environmental studies in research classifications and Korean societies from Korea Research Foundation(KRF) as well as decimal classification systems such as KDC, DDC, NDC and to suggest several modifications for environmental studies in KDC for the next edition. First of all, environmental philosophy, environmental sociology, environmental education, environmental toxicology, environmental architecture, and environmental geography are suggested to add to the main schedule in KDC and -0276 green technology(environmental technology) is suggested to add to Table 1. Standard subdivision. And new classification numbers for environmental law and environmental public administration are suggested in law and public administration.

  • This study analyzed changes in nutrient contents of children's favorite foods between March 2010 and July 2012 after policy implementation on energy-dense and nutrient-poor (EDNP) foods based on Special Act on Safety Control of Children's Dietary Life in Korea. A total of 6,684 products in the list of children's favorite foods by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in March 2010 and 7,347 products in July 2012 were classified into the following three types: food products (1) manufactured or sold in 2012 as well as 2010 (n=6,174), (2) discontinued in 2012 (n=510), and (3) newly introduced in 2012 (n=1,173). Among children's favorite foods manufactured or sold in 2012 as well as 2010 (n=6,174), calories and key nutrients in sweetened ices, breads, ice creams, deep-fried noodles/noodles, ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, and pizzas were improved in comparison to those in the other food groups. However, most of the changes in calories or key nutrient contents per 100 g (or 100 mL) fell below 1 kcal or 1 g. The newly introduced candies, breads, and carbonated beverages showed slightly greater improvements in calories and key nutrient contents per 100 g (or 100 mL) than the discontinued ones in 2012. On the other hand, some negative changes were found in newly introduced chocolates and RTE foods in comparison to the discontinued ones. Overall, policy implementation on EDNP foods seemed to induce changes in nutrient contents of children's favorite foods, yet the extent of the changes was limited.
