A preliminary study on factors affecting cognitive function and cognitive training effects (인지기능 및 인지훈련효과의 관련변인에 관한 예비연구)

  • The present study investigated the related variables of cognitive function, subjective cognitive decline and cognitive training effects. The cognitive training was composed of mete-cognitive education and cognitive task performing. Twenty older adults attended for 14 weeks and were tested before and after the training. Results show that their cognitive level was related with age, self-esteem and personality traits. And subjective cognitive decline was related depression, anxiety, personality traits, self-efficacy, self-esteem and subjective age, but it does not reflect objective cognitive impairments. Their cognitive test scores were enhanced after training in MMSE, memory and executive function, and enhanced scores were related with age, subjective cognitive decline, anxiety, self-efficacy, self-esteem, subjective age and personality traits. Findings suggest one's personality and psychological state need to be considered for the effects of cognitive training.

Influence of Memory Intensive Training Program on Cognitive Function, Memory Performance, and Self-Esteem in Elderly People (기억강화프로그램이 노인의 인지기능, 자아존중감과 기억수행에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was to confirm the influence of memory intensive training program on the elderly people's cognitive function, memory performance, and self-esteem. Method: Using a quasi-experimental or experimental design, 60 elderly aged over 60 years randomly assigned the experimental and control groups completed pretest-post evaluation. The experimental group participated in the memory intensive training program was offered to the participants in the experimental group for three weeks (2times/week). The t-test and $X^2$-test using SAS program. Results: 1) The cognitive function was significantly higher in the experimental group compared to that in the control group (t=3.26, p=.002). 2) The memory performance that included immediate word recall tasks, word recognition tasks and delayed word recall tasks was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (t=5.30, p<.001). The experimental group showed significantly higher scores for memory performance than the control group (t=5.30, p<.001). 3) The self-esteem was higher in the experimental group than in the control group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups (t=1.94, p=.058). Conclusion: The Memory Intensive Training Program could be an effective intervention for improving cognitive function, and memory performance of the elderly people.

  • This study aims to investigate the relations between the components of memorable tourism experience(MTE) and satisfaction, as well as loyalty. Research method and results of this study are as follows. Using the advance research of memorable tourism experience theory, the measurement scales were developed for the survey. Data were collected from the major cities in Dajeon, Korea between Jun. 1~Jul, 10, 2016. Of the 295 surveys collected, the researchers retained 274 usable responses. Data were used to examine the relations among characteristics of memorable tourism experience, satisfaction, and loyalty. The results indicated that the components of memorable tourism experience comprise nine factors. Moreover, part of the factors revealed to have significant positive effects on the satisfaction and loyalty. The results of this study provide implications for determining how tourism operators should prioritize their business resources in developing tourism programs.

  • Older generations may want a life review, a dynamic process of recall, evaluation, and aggregation, to fulfill their developmental task of "ego-integrity." Writing an autobiography is a tool for a life review based on narrative as "mode of consciousness." This study intends to find out what should be considered so that digital autobiography can fulfill its original role as a tool to achieve ego-integrity for the New Silver Generation. For this purpose, we will first examine theories about the process of ego-integrity through a life review. Then we will analyze different aspects of writing an autobiography including three characteristics of being narrative and the compositional qualities of autobiographical writing. Next, we will review the characteristics of digital narratives autobiography, and highlight some ideas to consider in the study of digital autobiographies for the New Silver Generation.

  • This dissertation is considered a historic generation that Chinese film $6^{th}$ director remembers through their life. Also it is figured out historic anguish and hurt how it was remembered and appeared in film. They have made actual films through their efforts which are different from the conventional generation. In addition, between memory and oblivion the time's signification in the history is showed how what way can be represented. It was presented the time's anguish through memory's metaphor in Chinese film $6^{th}$ works. Also, it was shown the existence's reality from dream was losing as memory was hiding between desire and despair. Additionally, the self of daily was expressed to unconcernedly accept reality, and its against the unchangeable world's eye and memory. The $6^{th}'s$ films' desire was expressed passive appearance to accept reality with losing dream in these three things; cannot be reality in the process to figure out own natural character, and appearance to keep traditional character, finally gradually changing reality. When $6^{th}$ directors analysis the history as memory, social repression follows family's repression, family's repression brings personal repression, and then repression changes to desire, finally the life as a reaction could be maintained. In conclusion, personal desire was covered for fantasy, and the overcoming figure was represented. Moreover, Chinese face that $6^{th}$ directors have memorized was presented through these sentiments.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that constitute the memorable tourism experiences and to grasp the influence relationship between the memorable tourism experience and the tourism destination brand equity and the loyalty of the tourism destination. The scope and method of the research are derived from the survey data collected through the questionnaire survey for foreign tourists who are visiting Korea, the reliability analysis and the feasibility analysis are conducted, and the relationship between the factors is analyzed through regression analysis.   • In this study, tlhe relationships of high school students' abilities to solve chemistry problems with cognitive variables (logical thinking ability, mental capacity. and learning strategy) and affective variables(self-efficacy, self-concept of ability, learning goal, and attitude toward science) were investigated. The proportion of variance due to the variables for algorithmic and conceptual problem solving ability was studied by a multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that, among the cognitive variables, the logical thinking ability significantly predicted the algorithmic problem solving ability, and the learning strategy was the best predictor of conceptual problem solving ability although not significant. Among the affective variables studied, the self-concept of alility was the significant predictor of both algorithmic and conceptual problem solving abilities. The seif-efficacy was significantly correlated with conceptual problem solving ability, but it had no predictive power.

The Behavior Economics in Storytelling (이야기하기의 행동경제학)

  • It is true that many tales delivered in an 'Story-telling' auditorium or theater have not so much exquisite and refined forms as distorted and deteriorated ones. Furthermore, when false interpretations of tale-performers added into the category of the texts of tales, the problems can be made worse. In case of oral folk tales, there can be discordance between the standpoint of a tale-performer and the contents of a tale. This thesis is directly aimed at pointing out the 'Behavior Economics' problems concerned with the reading and interpretation of tales through investigating the missing parts of a text in reading tales. Man's rationality is meant to be confined to bounded rationality. Instead of making best choices, bounded rationality leads consumers to make a decision which they think suffices themselves to the point requiring no more consideration on the given item. It is the very Heuristic that does work in the process of this simplified decision making process. Heuristic utilizes established empirical notion and specific information, and that's why there can be cognitive 'Biases' sometimes leading to inaccurate judgment. As Oral Literature is basically based on heavy guesswork and perceptual biases of general public, it is imperative to contemplate oral literature in the framework of Heuristic of behavior economics. This thesis deals with thinking types and behavioral patterns of the general public in the perspective of heuristic by examining 'Story-tellings' on the basis of personal or public memory. In addition, heuristic involves how to deal with significant but intangible content such as the errors of oral story teller, the deviations of the story, and responses of the audience.

  • We have developed a serious game for the elderly named 'Paldokangsan3' as a next version of 'Paldokangsan2' which was a walking game with memorization in shopping streets using controllers of hand buttons and foot boards with PC developed in 2012. The interface of had buttons and food boards were changed into the interface of motion capture with the aid of Kinect. The expected effects are improvement of memorization, improvement of concentration ability to find out items in the vision, improvement of vitality through physical walking actions, as well as improvement of mental health through entertainment activities of game play. We have tested 25 volunteers of more than 65 years old in Cheonan city community center for the elderly for 2 weeks. We got the result that the game play was showing positive effectiveness on memorization, physical exercise and self-esteem in mental health area of the elderly.

The Effects of a Memoir Writing Program for the Elderly Using Cognitive Enhancement Techniques (기억 향상 요소를 강화한 노인 집단 자서전 쓰기 프로그램의 효과)

  • The life review means a process of appraising life of oneself and it is essential for finding the meaning of life in old age. The memoir writing is a kind of method of life review. The memoir writing program used in this study focused especially on enhancing the cognitive skills by providing priming and retrieval support for memory performance in reminiscing past experiences. All fourteen participants were healthy and normal community dwellers and attended four-month long programof memoir writing classes which are consisted of different themes for each week. The aim of this study was to examine if the memoir writing program would render the positive effect on mental health and cognitive ability of the elderly. The results were that quality of life, life satisfaction, ego integrity of the participants showed positive change and the level of depression was significantly reduced compared to that of the control group. The findings in the present study suggest that the memoir writing can serve as one of the community initiative program to the growing population of the elderly for their emotional and cognitive challenges that they face everyday. To warrant the validity of the program, further study is needed for other sectors of elderly population, such as elderly living alone or those with both physical and/or cognitive disadvantages.
