  • This paper is to develop teaching procedures of low achievers in mathematics by using mindmaps. For this, we firstly set the teaching process on basis of literature research. And then we choose four subjects who had serious problems of both memory and mathematics achievement. we also choose the several topics of geometry and measure which could be a big burden of memory as stuff for mindmap activities. The results led us to that using mindmap activities in learning and teaching mathematics could effect on that kind of students' mathematical achievement and mathematical attitude as well as retention of mathematical concepts. It implied that we could develop individual programs for students who have different problems in learning mathematics.

  • In the present study, we examined the effect of the aqueous extract of Rubus coreanus Miquel (RCM-Ex) on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in male ICR mice. Mice were fed the diet containing 100 mg/kg body weight/day of RCM-Ex for 4 weeks. To induce amnesia, scopolamine (an antagonist of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor, 1 mg/kg of body weight) was intraperitoneally injected into mice 30 min before starting the behavior tests. RCM-Ex reversed scopolamine-induced memory impairments in mice as evidence by the passive avoidance test and Morris water maze test. In addition, acetylcholineasterase activities were decreased in the brains of mice treated with RCM-Ex. These results suggest that RCM-Ex may be an effective agent for the prevention of the memory impairment induced by cholinergic dysfunction.

  • This study investigated the effects of treadmill exercise on memory ability, cell proliferation, BDNF, and TrkB in the hippocampus and forebrain cholinergic cells in adolescent rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (4 weeks old) were randomly assigned to the following two groups: the sedentary group (n=10) and the exercise group (n=10). Rats in the exercise group were forced to run on a treadmill for 30 min, five times per week for 4 weeks. The latency of the step-through avoidance task was used in order to evaluate memory ability. Hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB) expression were assessed by Western blotting. Hippocampal cell proliferation and forebrain cholinergic cells were assessed by immunohistochemistry. The present study showed that treadmill running during the adolescent period significantly improved memory capability, increased hippocampal cell proliferation, up-regulated hippocampal BDNF and TrkB expression, and enhanced the number of forebrain cholinergic cells. These results suggest that regular exercise during the adolescent period may enhance memory function.

  • This study examined whether Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is related to the reduction of specific memory among linguistic memory and visuospatial memory, and to identify the most predictive index for discriminating MCI from normal elderly. The subjects were analyzed for 189 elderly (103 healthy elderly, 86 MCI). The verbal memory was used by the Seoul Verbal Learning Test. visuospatial memory was measured using the Rey Complex Figure Test. As a result of multiple logistic regression, verbal memory and visuospatial memory showed significant predictive performance in discriminating MCI from normal elderly. On the other hand, when all the confounding variables were corrected, including the results of each memory test, the predictive power was significant in distinguishing MCI from normal aging only in the immediate recall of verbal memory, and the predictive power was not significant in the immediate recall of visuospatial memory. This result suggests that delayed recall of visuospatial memory and immediate recall of verbal memory are the best combinations to discriminate memory ability of MCI.
