Analysis of the Education Objectives of Domestic and Foreign Colleges of Engineering (국내외 공과대학들의 교육목표 분석)

  • This paper examined the educational objectives of selected colleges of engineering in Korea and other countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hong Kong. Among the common educational objectives of the colleges of engineering in Korea are the supply of manpower with professional abilities, an education to enhance the basic competence of engineers, and the equipment of high-level educational environments for quality engineering education. These emphases are in line with the global trends shown in the cases of various countries, where "leadership" and "innovation" are given much weight, and qualities such as "creativity", "specialty", and "service" are stressed. The analysis on the educational objectives of the selected colleges of engineering listed in this study may serve as a substantial basis for setting future goals and making decisions for quality engineering education in the colleges of engineering.

Orientation of Makeup Education in Consideration of Characteristics of Makeup Sector (메이크업 분야별 특성을 반영한 교육 방향성 연구)

  • This study focused on the orientation of makeup education, considering the characteristics of the makeup sector. For this, the academic categories and properties of makeup in the theoretical areas of makeup education were analyzed. The practical fields of makeup techniques were divided into five different areas, and their characteristics and core competencies were analyzed. Then, the study results were verified through an in-depth interview. The results found the following: The academic categories of makeup are correlated with various fields such as art, technique, design, public health, science, medicine, and humanities. Analysis on the five different fields was mostly matched in practices. However, core competencies revealed a big difference in stage performances and fashion shows. Overall, basic beauty makeup, basic stage makeup, and basic media makeup techniques were found in terms of the core competencies. In particular, there was a high demand for hairstyling skills.

  • Many scholars, clinicians and faculties of music therapy have dealt various issues on educational and clinical curricula for training music therapists. Depending on the philosophical orientations of educational institutes, the emphasis are different. The purpose of this paper is to examine and identify the areas for competency for gaining qualification in music therapy by reviewing the definitions of music therapy from the academic and professional perspectives; discipline-based, practice-based, and intrapersonal competency. The unique characteristics of music therapy as a professional discipline should be reflected in its curriculum and training content. Educational strategies need to be formulated to strengthen intrapersonal competency. The paper also discussed the consequential gains accordant with intrapersonal competency such as personal self-help skills using musical resources and coping with burnouts.

  • A Korean Retail Company 'Homeplus' has accomplished great growth in a short period. The main factor behind it, which is Hexagon leadership, is based on the manager's experience and management philosophy. It focuses on leaders and the ability to build basic traits of leaders. The main points are organization managing foundations such as people, work, performance, management, facilitation, training and growth. It also includes specific analysis that are applicable right away on success, failure, efficiency and effectiveness of management. The important factor for hexagon leadership is that it focuses on traits of leaders than the skills. Through training, the members of the organization can internalize the six fundamentals, which create a synergy when performed together. Positive results can be found from 'Viewpoint', which is the evaluation method of the Homeplus.

A Design of Curriculum Considered Experimental Design & Analysis for Enhancing Engineer's Problem-Solving Ability (공학자의 문제해결능력 향상을 위한 실험계획 및 분석을 적용한 교육과정의 설계 -기계공학계열의 학과를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to design the curriculum by considering the experimental design and analysis for enhancing an engineer's creative problem-solving ability. This ability is one of the important objectives in modern engineering education. To achieve this purpose, first, it is suggested that the experimental design and analysis, a specific area of engineering education, is highly relevant to the creative problem-solving ability, one of the basic engineering competencies and of the final goals in engineering education. And also, the curriculum already introduced the experimental design and analysis in departments of mechanical engineering of universities are surveyed and reviewed. 59 papers are also analyzed to know how engineers applicate the knowledge of the experimental design and analysis to their activities. Finally, the module of engineering education curriculum introduced the experimental design and analysis to enhance effectively the engineer's creative problem-solving ability is suggested.

  • This study is on improving the general engineering education for enhancing the quality of engineers at a local engineering school in which the students are not highly qualified for engineering education. Based on the analysis on the current engineering education by asking questions to professors, students and alumni of Hongik College of Science and Engineering, we have set the basic educational philosophy as educating practical engineers and have decided the goals of basic engineering education as changing to student oriented education, enhancing the field adaptation capability, improving the problem solving ability and introducing engineering design courses. For achieving the foregoing goals, we have changed several basic engineering courses. Mathematics, science courses, computer related courses, English, communication skill related courses are strengthened, but general college education courses are reduced. We also have encouraged students to participate the classes actively and study efficiently, think logically and creatively. For the operational details, we have tried to impose less courses to freshmen and sophomores, to impose the prerequisite courses, to activate summer and winter schools. Finally, we have tried to find the ways to support continuous improvement on the basic engineering education.

A Study on the Analysis and Improvement of the University Library Program Participating in ACE Project (ACE 사업에 참여한 대학도서관 프로그램 사례분석 및 개선방안 연구)

  • Universities contribute to the development of the country and society by cultivating professional manpower with knowledge and qualifications as democratic citizens through education and research activities. To this end, the government is improving the basic capabilities of universities and supporting autonomous innovation through university financial support projects. Since the financial support project differentially supports the government's finances limited to universities with a comparative advantage through fair evaluation, the role and function of the university library, a basic educational facility and core institution that supports education and research, is important. However, university libraries have not been able to actively participate in the government's financial support projects due to financial and manpower shortages, poor environments such as facilities, facilities, and spaces, and low participation rates for students. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed the program operation cases of 18 university libraries in which libraries participated among 45 universities selected for the ACE project (2010-2016), derived problems and implications, and questioned the roles and achievements of university libraries. Based on the results, strategies and measures to be considered by university libraries in preparation for the government's university financial support projects were proposed.

Educational Implications of Media Education in the Digital Era in France (디지털 시대 프랑스의 미디어 교육 분석을 통한 시사점 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the implications for the domestic media education policy which is still in a state of pace by document research of the case in France which has a long history of media education. France has consistently maintained the tradition of the philosophical value of media education, such as 'the cultivation of consciousness and qualities as a democratic citizen' through legal, policy and educational improvement. At the same time, in the digital era, conceptual expansion was carried out that embraced the concept of 'information' rather than resting on classical media education. This was complemented by education legislation, enforcing information education programs in school, and the manage of CLEMI, the media and information education training organization. It will be necessary to construct software system for media education of Korea through the manage of governmental organization and the cooperation system with related institutes under the constant philosophic direction.

Online Information Technologies and the Changing Roles of Reference Librarians (온라인 정보기술 환경과 참고사서의 역할 재고)

  • Based on the comprehensive literature search and the sample library surveys, some observations are made on the impact of online information technologies for reference services. Various issues specifically with OPAC, CD-ROM, remote database access, and internet environment are overviewed as the source of and trigger for change in reference librarianship and in terms of expectations as well as difficulties. The paper then focuses on how these technologies influence on the roles of reference librarians as intermediaries in information providing, instructing, consulting, and evaluating functions. This leads to rethinking the conceptual basis of today's reference service and the competencies for reference librarians with new functions and responsibilities.

  • 단어가 지니는 의미를 이미지로 처리하면 그 단어의 이미지가 단순화되면서 높은 인식률을 가질 수 있다는 장점을 지닌다. 이러한 장점을 이용하여 언어장애인들을 위한 유용한 보완대체 의사소통 학습도구에 하나로 이미지 전자 사전을 구축하고자 한다. 우선 동사와 조합되는 용어들의 패턴들을 면밀히 조사하여 그 패턴들을 영역과 자질의 카테고리로 분류하고, 그 카테고리에 속하는 기본 데이터들을 정리하여 분류된 데이터를 하위범주화 방식을 통해 검색을 보다 용이하게 하였다. 더욱이 언어장애인들이 많이 쓰이는 단어를 조사하고, 그 단어를 중심으로 한 모듈을 이용하여, 각각에게 해당되는 이미지를 수집함으로 단어들의 의미를 표현하고 인식할 수 있도록 하는 인터페이스를 구축하는데 중점을 두었다. 또한 언어장애인이 직접 명사와 동사를 조합하여 그 완성여부를 검토할 수 있는 학습기능을 추가함으로 인해 보다 실생활에 유용하고 교육적인 이미지 전자 사전을 구축하였다.
