Providing archival information services is one of the important tasks carried out by archives. The archives, now, make efforts to provide user-oriented information services which can help users to utilize records and archives more easily. This study reviews and compares user-oriented information services, which National Archives in UK, USA, and Australia have provided actively, in terms of learning support services, research support services, and Special services for public. And then, the study suggests the strategies for improving user-oriented archival information services for archives and the institutes of records management.

The author discusses the nature and scope of archival reference service through the debate to user studies in the 1980s and the 1990s. Until the 1990s, archivists paid little attention to studying their user population. A new approach to archival user service led to the development of various public services of archives and resulted in active interaction with the public. Based on the discussion, the article examines the implication of archival reference service in Korean society.

The study aims to develop the indicators to evaluate archival information service environments for the disabled in archives. Based on the barrier-free authentication indicators, the study analyzed the main concepts of archival information services and the service movement lines of users in archives. The study developed new indicators to evaluate records and information service environments by synthesizing all the concepts of information services, service movement lines, barrier-free authentication indicators and the regulations related to archival information services. The study can contribute to find out core problems of service environments in archives through utilizing the new indicators and scales, and to suggest alternatives to improve the environmental conditions for the disabled.

This study aims at the fundamental factors needed to make the policy for internet reference service of public records were presented, considering the methods for improvement of internet reference service of national assembly records. For this purpose, reference service theory of recorded informations and examples of foreign congress reference services were analyzed. From the result of analysis, three tasks were proposed as an improvement plan for internet reference services of national assembly records: establishment of access policy, improvement of reference service programs, and activation of communication with users.

This study aims to design and implement RSS-based archival information service system for activating online-based archival information circulation and providing personalized archival information services. To achieve the goals, XML document formats and database schema for four selected items are designed and implemented. Also, an performance of the implemented service system is evaluated to with a general web browser.

The study aims at providing alternative strategies for the National Assembly's archival information services. In this context, it conducts a literature review and discusses current status of the National Assembly's archival information services. Furthermore, this study draws six critical problems of the National Assembly's archival information services, ranging from a lack of comprehensive archival information services to a deficiency of value-added contents. As a case study, it reviews legislative archival institutions in the US and the UK, and classifies their legislative records management services into 3 different types, including retrieval assistant services, contents services, and extensive services. Base on the case study, as a result, it provides 5 strategies for the development of the National Assembly's archival information services.

The Presidential Archive of Korea provides archival information services in various forms. This study evaluated web-archival information services provided in The Presidential Archive of Korea using DigQUAL. To perform the study, this study conducted a descriptive statistic and confidence tests. The evaluation method was accomplished user survey. And the evaluation territory was classified with archives and information search, archives use service, expansion service. As a result, a general satisfaction was low, and this study suggested improvement method for web archival service in the Presidential Archive of Korea.

Most of records in the catholic church archives are not only meaningful records of religion but also crucial information for history and various cultural studies. Although the catholic archives are regarded as the fundamental information resources for various studies, they are not easily accessible yet. Current online services of catholic archives were categorized by three types and online services of catholic archives were investigated in the three aspects, structure and design, contents, and interface. The major problem of current online services is the lack of digital contents, so this study suggested 5 steps for digital contents development to utilize online services of catholic archival information.

Archival organizations have been evolving to varying users' needs. The main functional focus of earlier archival organizations has inclined to collection and preservation of data, but their current interests expand to utilization of the data collected. Therefore, today's archival organizations endeavor to procure user-oriented archival information service. This study highlights the programs initiated in last two years by 'Service Innovation Team', a special task force of National Archives of Korea organized in 2005, and presents comparative analysis of those programs with respect to the existing archival systems of National Archives and Records Administration of USA and The National Archives in UK. Additionally, the study, while emphasizing the importance of enlarging and diversifying service programs as well as promoting public awareness over archive resources, introduces the service standards of advanced nations as benchmarks for future archival service policies of pertinent organizations.

This study aims to find complex service plans for individual presidential archives. It analyzes previous studies dealing with the justification, cases, and services of individual presidential archives. The characteristics, functions, and service aspects of individual presidential archives are theoretically discussed. As a case study, the services of individual presidential archives in the United States are analyzed, and the study finds the complex nature of the services. Furthermore, interviews with archival experts are conducted on the subject of the current status of the presidential archives, experience in use, and improvement measures to discuss the problems and limitations of the current integrated presidential archives services and diagnose the prospects of individual presidential archives. In conclusion, it proposes the individual presidential archives service strategies in four areas, namely, information service, research support service, exhibition service, and outreach service.
