Effect of Progressive Squat Exercise on Lower Body Muscles Activity and Foot Pressure in Male College Students

  • This study examined the changes in lower body muscle activity and foot pressure during progressive squat exercise in male college students. It was conducted to help efficient exercise guidance by identifying and recognizing muscle imbalance using EMG and smart shoes and providing immediate feedback. The subjects of the study were 20 students from D University. As a result of this study, as the squat load increased, the activity of all muscles except for the left semitendinosus muscle and the anterior tibialis muscle significantly increased among. Foot pressure, when the squat load was increased, the pressure of the forefoot(FF) increased significantly and the pressure of the rear foot(RF) decreased significantly. Therefore, providing immediate feedback using a wearable device will prevent muscle imbalance and provide effective exercise guidance.

  • Electromygram was measured in three different cases; not wearing of a helmet, wearing of a 920g helmet, and wearing of a 1310g helmet, and it was revealed that there was a high level of muscle activities on the opposite side (sternocleidomastoid muscle) while the head and the neck were moving right and left and muscle activities of the curve and of the hyperextension were found to be not significant. Especially, the presence of a helmet seemed to cause a difference in a level of muscle activities on the deltoid and erector spine muscles while lifting or lowering with a weight placed on the deniz backboard. Therefore, it would be possible to assume that this newly developed smart helmet would not affect muscles around the necks of paramedics if they do not move their necks and heads right and left while lowering or lifting a patient using the deniz backboard. In addition, in case of the deltoid and erector spine muscles, it is shown that an increase in the degree of movement could lead to an increase in the level of muscle activities on the muscles controlling of the corresponding action, which are waist and back muscles. Despite it, it would be possible to prevent possible injuries and/or muscular and skeletal diseases around the lumbar by fully complying with a basic rule of straightening of the waist while making a power-lifting motion.

Study on the Strategy of Muscular Activity for Motor Track of Upper Limbs during Rowing Exercise (로잉운동 시 상지 운동궤적에 따른 근육활성 전략에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the muscular activity and muscle strength for swing track of upper limbs during rowing exercise. Subject was all twenty healthy adults and they were divided into linear exercise group and elliptical exercise group in random. Subjects performed rowing exercise 3-times for a week and performed all 8-weeks. We measured realtime-surface EMG. Also we measured joint torque of elbow, ankle and lumbar in subjects using BIODEX. The result showed that when rowing exercise, elliptical track exercise had higher muscular activity in trapezius, deltoid, erector spinae, rectus femoris, biceps femoris, gastronemius than linear track exercise on more many muscle of upper and lower limbs. Also elbow joint torque and lumbar joint torque was more higher too. but linear exercise also had higher muscular activity in multifidus, tibilalis anterior than elliptical track exercise. According to this experiment, we found out that elliptical track was more efficient than linear track.

Effect of Cymbidium Root Extracts on Oxidative Stress-induced Myoblasts Damage (산화스트레스에 의해 유도된 근세포 손상에서 심비디움 뿌리추출물의 효과)

  • Skeletal muscle atrophy can be defined as a decrease in or a disease of the muscle tissue, or as a disorder of the nerves that control the muscle, through injury or lack of use. This condition is associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in various muscular disorders. Exposure to ROS induces muscle atrophy through several biological factors, such as SOD1 and HSP70. We found that cymbidium root extract reduced the $H_2O_2$-induced viability loss in C2C12 myoblasts and inhibited apoptosis. In addition, we showed that the cymbidium root extract increased the expression of HSP70 and decreased the expression of SOD1 in the $H_2O_2$-induced C2C12 myoblasts. These results suggest that cymbidium root extract might have therapeutic value in reducing ROS-induced muscle atrophy.

Comparative Analysis of the Body Muscle Activity According to the Prop and Different Foot Stability during Pilates Bridge Motion (필라테스 브릿지 동작 시 소도구와 발의 불안정성 차이에 따른 신체 근육의 근활성도 비교 분석)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the comparative analysis of body muscle EMGs according to the prop and different foot stability during Pilates bridge motion. Eighteen adult males(age, 22.3±2.1 years; height, 173.89±4.51 cm; body mass, 72.61±4.13 kg; and BMI, 24.03±1.31 kg/m2) participated in this study as subjects. The Pilates bridge was composed of a total of 9 motions, according to the props (NP, no prop; RG, ring; GB, gym ball) and different foot stability (BS, basic surface; FR, form roller; BOSU, both sides up). We measured the right's muscle activities of the upper rectus abdominis, lower abdominal stabilizers, external oblique, adductor longus, rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, tibialis anterior, and biceps femoris. The research findings were as follows. During Pilates bridge motion, the use of GB was found to be more effective in activating the body muscle. And during Pilates bridge motion, the use of BOSU was found to be most high in activating the body muscle as well. To summarize the research findings, the use of GB and BOSU during Pilates bridge motion were discovered to enormous affect muscle activities. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to be able to present efficient Pilates bridge exercises for strengthening physical strength.

Changes in the Physicochemical Properties of Spent-hen Meat during Cold and Frozen Storage (산란노계육(産卵老鷄肉)의 냉장 및 동결저장 중 물리화학적 특성 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes in the pH, extractability of protein, ATPase activity of myofibrillar protein, myofibrillar fragmentation, freezing loss and drip loss during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$ in breast and leg muscle of spent-hen meat. pH values ill pectoral and leg muscle were lowest ell tile 1st day and 1st week during cold and frozen storage, respectively. The extractabilities of myofibrillar proteins were increased graduall during cold storage and were highest on the 1st week during frozen storage, The $Mg^{2+}-ATPase$ activities of myofibrillar proteins were highest on the 1st day and 1st week during cold and frozen storage, respectively. The myofibrillar fragmentations were greatly changed on the 1st day during cold storage and 1st week during frozen storage. Freezing losses and drip losses were increased gradually during frozen storage. pH values in breast muscle were lower than those of leg muscle, and the extractabilities, $Mg^{2+}-ATPase$ activities, fragmentations of myofibrillar proteins, and drip losses in breast muscle were higher than those of leg muscle during storage, but the patterns of the changes in both muscles were similar during storage.

  • 노인에게서 두드러지게 나타나고 있는 저근육형 비만은 근육감소를 동반한 체지방의 증가로 신체상의 뚜렷한 체성분의 변화를 야기 시킨다. 이때 골감소증을 동반하여 신체기능의 감소 및 골절장애 그리고 대사성 관련 질환의 위험도가 올라가는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 노화로 인한 체성분의 변화는 단순한 저근육형일 경우와 비만일 때 보다 급격히 증가된 복부내장 지방조직에서 분비되는 염증성 사이토카인, C-반응성 단백질(CRP), 인터루킨(IL)-6, IL-8 및 종양 괴사 인자(TNF-${\alpha}$)들이 단백질 대사를 저해하여 근육량의 감소를 더욱 촉진시키며, 염증관련 대사질환의 유병률에 중요한 요인이다. 본 연구에서는 DNA 메틸화가 당뇨병, 심혈관질환, 암과 같은 만성염증성 질환에 관계하고 있다는 최근 연구 결과를 기초로 하여 항염증 영양소와 생리활성을 갖는 식품인자들의 충분한 섭취가 염증조절에 중요하게 기여할 것으로 생각되며, 또한 염증성 질환의 주요 표식자인 DNA 메틸화와 히스톤 변형을 유발하는 효소의 활성 또는 비 암호화된 RNA의 발현을 조절함으로써 근육량 증가와 체지방 감소에 중요한 역할을 하는 것을 살펴보았다. 따라서 최근 새롭게 인식되는 후생유전학적 연구의 중심에 있는 항염증 영양소의 효과와 체성분 변화와의 긍정적 관계를 중심으로 저근육형 비만의 예방 및 인구고령화에 건강한 노화를 위한 효과적인 방법을 제시하였다.

Effect of Balance Board and Whole-body Vibration Stimulator Application on Body Muscle Activities during Static Squat Motion (정적 스쿼트 동작 시 발란스 보드와 전신 진동자극기 적용이 신체 근활성도 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of balance board and whole-body vibration stimulator application on body muscle activities during static squat motion. Twenty adult males(age, 21.90±0.36 years; height, 174.30±1.09 cm; body mass, 66.50±1.00 kg; and BMI, 21.90±0.31 kg/㎡) were participated in this study as subjects. Three types' static squat motions were performed(basic static squat motion, BSSM; static squat motion with balance board, SSBB; static squat motion with whole-body vibration stimulator, SSVS). We measured the right side's body muscle activities of the rectus abdominis(RA), internal oblique(IO), external oblique(EO), rectus femoris(RF), vastus lateralis(VL), and vastus medialis(VM). The research findings were as follows. There was a significant higher RA, IO, and EO muscle activity of SSBB and SSVS(p=.001, p=.004, p=.000). And RF, VL, and VM muscle activities were greatest during SSVS(p=.000). These findings are expected to serve as references for static squat motion applications in training programs for body muscle strengthening.

Investigation of Microbial Communities in Sulculus diversicolor supertexta Through 16S rRNA Sequencing and Antibacterial Monitoring of Harmful Strains (16S rRNA 염기서열 분석을 통한 오분자기(Sulculus diversicolor supertexta)내 미생물 군집 조사 및 인체유해 질병세균에 대한 항균활성 모니터링)

  • This study investigated the muscles, intestines, and gonads of Sulculus diversicolor supertexta to examine the diversity of microbial communities within examples collected from the Jeju Coast. Using different media, initial pure isolation in MA, 1% BHIA, and 1% TSA indicated that the muscles, intestines, and gonads supported more communities, respectively. In analysis of relative similarity with 16s rRNA sequencing, 190 pure colonies were isolated, and further analysis with NBLAST identified 71 species, 39 genera, 25 families, and five phyla. Homogeny with the reference strain was 91-100%. Microbial communities in S. supertexta consisted of gamma and alpha Proteobacteria (48%), Actinobacteria (32.5%), Firmicutes (16.9%), Deinococcus-Thermus (1.3%), and Bacteroides (1.3%). In all tissue, Psychrobacter cibarius in Moraxellaceae was dominant. Alteromonadaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Pasturellaceae, Moraxellaceae, Rhodobacteraceae, Geminicoccaceae, Dietziaceae, Intrasporangiaceae, Microbacteriaceae, Micrococcaceae, Micromonosporaceae, Streptomycetaceae, Aerococcaceae, Bacillaceae, Paenibacillaceae, Planococcaceae, and Staphylcoccaceae were commonly isolated across all tissues, and Flavobacteriaceae, Corynebacteriaceae, Yesiniaceae, Vibrionaceae, Hahellaceae, Pseudomonadaceae were also identified from the intestines. In microbial monitoring of four harmful bacteria, Streptomyces albus (96%) showed antibacterial activity against all four strains, and Agrococcus baldri (99%) and Psychrobacter nivimaris (99%) presented against E. Coli and E. aerogens. In addition, some strains with low homogeny were isolated and further experiments are therefore required, for example to refine the antimicrobial substances including new strain investigations. These additional experiments would aim to establish generic resources for the microbial communities in S. Supertexta and provide basic data for applied microbiological research.

Effect of Lentinula edodes water extracts and Lentinan on proliferation of myosatellite cell of Bos taurus Hanwoo (표고 자실체 물 추출물과 베타글루칸이 한우 근육위성세포 증식에 미치는 영향)

  • Lentinula edodes is one of the most produced mushrooms in the world. In this study, the effects of L. edodes water extracts and lentinan, a beta-glucan from this mushroom, on the proliferation of Bos taurus Hanwoo myosatellite cells were studied. The betaglucan content of the L. edodes water extract was approximately 15.20% at 85 ℃ for 4 h, 13.64% at 100 ℃ for 4 h, 9.48% at 40 ℃ for 8 h and 8.21% at room temperature for 24 h. L. edodes water extract was added to the culture of Hanwoo myosatellite cells. The expression of the MyoD gene increased in the addition of the extract at 40 ℃ for 8 h and 100 ℃ for 4 h, and the expression of the Myogenin gene increased in the addition of the extract at 40 ℃ for 8 h, but proliferation and activity did not increase compared to no addition. However, the addition of lentinan to the culture of Hanwoo myosatellite cells increased the expression of Myogenin gene related to muscle formation increased and the proliferation and viability of the cells. This study proved that the components of L. edodes can affect the proliferation of Hanwoo myosatellite cells, and further research will help develop the mushroom industry and cultured meat industry in the future.
