The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of children's favorite picture books by age according to genre. For this purpose, children of 6 and 9 year old were interviewed from October 2015 to January 2016, and the final data of 34 children were selected for analysis. The collected data were analyzed by inductive coding qualitatively. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, picture books preferred by 6 year old children appeared in the order of folktale picture books, story picture books, korean-domestic poetry picture books, informational picture books, and they didn't prefer korean-translated poetry picture books. They tended to like interesting story and well-constructed plots. Second, picture books preferred by 9 year old children were surveyed in the order of story picture books, folktale picture books, korean-domestic poetry picture books, and they didn't prefer informational picture books and korean-translated poetry picture books. They explored literary elements extensively and considered them as interesting factors. Based on these results, this study revealed reasons why children of different ages prefer particular picture book genre, and proposed ways to use picture book genres widely by age.

This study aims to analyze and compare the difference of preference to realistic and fantastic expressions presented in the illustrations of children's picture books. The subject of this study is set for 52 seven-year-old kindergarten students, including 26 boys and 26 girls, in Cheonan. Two times of researches on their preferences were made on the basis of data collection through individual interviews and self-regulatory questionnaires. A children's picture book, which best demonstrates both realistic and fantastic expressions, was selected as a research tool for such questionnaire from the ones produced and printed within Korea, which either are listed in the Recommended Book List of Children's Book Research Association or received any international award. The result shows that both boys and girls prefer fantastic expressions to realistic ones. It was also found that girls tend to prefer realistic expressions that the boys do. Nevertheless, there definitely was a limitation in thorough analysis by region or age, as they tended to show different responses when they were provided with a picture book with similar theme and story, but different form of expression.

The purpose of this study is to figure out how a child, as an active responder, responds to the characters of fantastic picture books by analyzing the child's questions and comments through the reading aloud approach. The subjects of this study are fifty-four children under five years old. Nine fantastic picture books are used as the study materials. The contents of the analysis are the frequency of children's questions and comments, the types of responses and the reasons of preferences to the characters. The results of the analysis are as follows: Firstly, the frequency of comments is three times higher than the frequency of questions. Secondly, the frequency of "evaluative questions" is the highest and "imaginative questions" is the next highest. The frequency of "transparent questions" and "personal questions" are comparatively low. Thirdly, most of the children answered that the reason of preference of the characters was "the character's appearance" and then "their subjective feeling to the character", "the character's role" and "the character's characteristics" in that order. Only one child answered that it was "the character's gender." This study will contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategies of reading picture books and to the strategic study to improve children's responses as well.

However, when we take a look at domestic condition we come to know that Korean juvenile publishing has been occupied mostly by the studying book. This study compares the members of children's reading and culture movement organization versus general public and their children with the aim of understanding how parents' reading activities affect children's reading activities. The study surveyed 477 elementary school students and 483 parents from five special metropolitan cities regarding their reading behaviour. Reading behavior was investigated in terms of reading frequency, book selection information source, reading awareness, and preferred books, and it was confirmed that there was a difference between members of children's reading and culture movement organization and children of the general public. Members of children's reading and culture movement organization and their children showed superior reading habits in terms of both quantity and quality than non-members and their children, and the book selection information service was used. In terms of perception regarding reading, children's reading and culture movement organization members and their children found more "joy" in reading than "help in learning" as compared to the general public and their children. In terms of reading preference, children's reading and culture movement organization members and their children intensively preferred Korean creative fairy tales and picture books while the general public and their children preferred Korean creative fairy tales, picture books, and educational comics. In order to create a healthier reading culture and environment for the long term, the development of more active reading participation methods for the general public is required.

Recently, traditional books based on printing on the paper have expanded to e-book media in smart device because of developing digital technology. Especially, app book applied application makes users' experience increase and provides immersion to them, because it allows them basically delivering information, educational effect and fun elements with multimedia technology. There are various experimental trials to make enhance effect of reformatting for application media. The purpose of this study is to analyze reformatting effect for app book with funology which is convergence of digital technology and a fun. Then this article would provide design guide and be applied to new application contents. For this research, the first of all, we would discuss concept and elements of funology by publication including thesis, articles, and books. Secondly, this article will be focused on 'Moo, Baa, La La La!' which is reformatting application for iPad to analyze type of funology. Thirdly, we would make sure that app book makes users get emotional effect comparing original book by FGI(Focus Group Interview). In conclusion, sensitive funology used the sound allows user emotional effect and they prefer to intuitive and immediate motion and response of interactive funology. In other way, funology of fun in itself which is strong concept in original book diminishes in app book. Then users concentrate interactive factors like game structure. This results make that app books could be created by strength of original contents and advantage of funology. Therefore this makes us expect the possibility of reformatting effect with funology and we need to discuss the points of issue that there are considerations and limitations to successful app book for users.

This research aims to suggest the direction of visual expression of a dokkaebi, based on the image of it that people possess. The method of the research is questionnaire survey. For the case study, fifteen picture books have been selected and thirty three imagery adjectives have been extracted. As the result this research poses the methods as following; firstly, cheerful and humorous appearance of Dokkaebi in Korean image, secondly, present of behavioral expression, for third, design with the visually specialized factor.

This study aims to develop and apply the language education program model - based on balanced language education approach - on development of literacy of young children in low-income families, specially participating in Dream Start public welfare service. Development of this languge education program was based on the basic view and characteristis of balanced language education. It was progressed in accordance with Analyze-Design-Develop-implement-Evaluate(ADDIE), which is an widely-used instructional design model. Educational contents including reading skills of picture books based on whole language approach and well-structured reading and writing sequences, teaching and learning method including the principles and the strategies and teaching and learning systematic evaluation method are proposed in viewpoint of balanced language teaching approach. The application of the program was conducted targeting 20 young children participating in Dream Start welfare service from June 2015 until early November. To evaluate the effectiveness of this program, word reading inspection and nonsense word reading inspection developed by Ko, Yeon-Kyung(2002) were performed. The reflective thinking journal of visiting teachers and the satisfaction reported by parents were analysed in the qualitative research method. As a result, reading skills of young children were improved. The superiority of the program - prefernce for the picture book, interests in written languages, effectiveness of individualized language education method - was demonstrated by qualitative analysis of reflective journal. This study has the significance on presenting the executable language education model for literacy development of young children in low-income families based on balanced language education approach.

The purpose of this study is to examine personal characteristics of two elementary students who developed individual interest in science. 201 students of two elementary schools in Seoul participated in questionnaire survey engaged in to investigate students' interest in science, engagements and preference in science-related-activities three times a year. This case study was conducted with seven students who showed typical types of interest in science. Students wrote a photo-journal for 12 weeks. They were interviewed every other week by a researcher. We analyzed two students who developed individual interest. It turns out that RF participated in doing experiments at home, and disassembling and assembling things. Participation of activities was a process of solving curiosity. When he was unable to solve problems, he searches the internet or books. Sometimes he would ask for help from his teacher. JW engaged in activities: drawing, doing experiments at home, and going to informal education center. She communicated with others by using online-offline media. Curious questions were solved by herself. The two students have a tendency to solve problems by themselves. Also, positive science-related activities were going on at home and in school. This study not only give insights and understanding of students who developed individual interest in science but also provide implication for educators to examine personal characteristics of students.
