Students' Mathematical Reasoning Emerging through Dragging Activities in Open-Ended Geometry Problems (개방형 기하 문제에서 학생의 드래깅 활동을 통해 나타난 수학적 추론 분석)

  • In the present study, we analyze the four participating 9th grade students' mathematical reasoning processes in their dragging activities while solving open-ended geometry problems in terms of abduction, induction and deduction. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the students utilized 'abduction' to adopt their hypotheses, 'induction' to generalize them by examining various cases and 'deduction' to provide warrants for the hypotheses. Secondly, in the abduction process, 'wandering dragging' and 'guided dragging' seemed to help the students formulate their hypotheses, and in the induction process, 'dragging test' was mainly used to confirm the hypotheses. Despite of the emerging mathematical reasoning via their dragging activities, several difficulties were identified in their solving processes such as misunderstanding shapes as fixed figures, not easily recognizing the concept of dependency or path, not smoothly proceeding from probabilistic reasoning to deduction, and trapping into circular logic.

  • 본 연구에서는 속성중심 귀납법에서 사용하는 개념 계층의 상승 기법, 결정트리에 의한 귀납법에서 사용하는 정보 획득량의 측정 기법, 그리고 라프셋에 의한 지식감축 방법을 복합하여 저수준의 데이터를 고수준 정보로 일반화하고, 불필요한 속성들을 감축하여 간략화된 결정규칙을 도출하는 통합방법의 지식 발견 시스템을 시험적으로 구현했다. 여기서 추출한 최소화 결정 규칙은 대규모 데이터베이스에서 추출할수 있는 유용한 지식으로 의사결정에 사용하는 정보가 된다. 생성된 규칙지식은 각기 방법들보다 간결하다. 그리고 개념 일반화에 의해 유도된 지식이 고수준의 추상으로 표현된다.

  • 대학수학에서 수학적귀납법의 원리를 소개하고 풍부한 예를 통해 이해를 돕는다. 특별히 교양수학을 수강하는 1학년 학생 수준에 맞게 매스매티카 프로그램을 이용하여 구체적인 예를 갖고 한단계 한단계 접근하여 수학적귀납법의 증명을 연습할 기회를 준다. 증명을 단계적으로 하는 것을 연습하여 학생들은 논리적인 사고능력을 개발하고 새로운 명제를 발견할 수 있는 기회를 맞보게 한다. 물론, 증명 연습은 1학년 신입생에게는 쉽지 않으나 여러 명제에 대해 연습을 하는 것은 수학적, 논리적 사고 능력을 개발하고 증명문제에 대한 인식을 바꾸는데 매우 중요한 역할을 할 것이다.

  • There are three subjects in the study. First, after investigating the development process of the method of infinite descent and the reduction to absurdity, we prove them to be equivalent each other. Second, we apply the method of infinite descent to some problems in textbook and compare it with the reduction to absurdity. Finally, we discuss on teaching proofs with the method of infinite descent.

  • Park, Seo and Kim (12) developed the input domain-based SRGM, which was able to quantitatively assess the reliability of a software system during the testing and operational phases. They assumed perfect debugging during testing and debugging phase. To make this input domain-based SRGM more realistic, this assumption should be relaxed. In this paper we generalize the input domain-based SRGM under imperfect debugging. Then its statistical characteristics are investigated.

Abduction as Methodology of Cultural Studies (문화연구의 방법론으로서 가추법이 갖는 유용성)

  • What are the meanings of abduction as a methodology of Cultural Studies? By contextualizing Charles Sanders Peirce's logic of abduction in the discipline of Cultural Studies, I explore the epistemological discussion on the modern scientific research methodology of social sciences. Abduction is a kind of logical inference, which is often associated with guessing or intuition. Peirce's method of abduction and Cultural Studies' contextual formation in effect address an alternative methodology to positivism. Criticizing the modern Eurocentric structure of knowledge construction, I suggest that the virtue of abduction, as a logic of discovery, should be re-discovered in the context of Cultural Studies. Abduction holds important lessons for Cultural Studies as well as social sciences in general because of its focus on intuition, empathy, and intellectual collaboration. Through its elaboration of the logic of abduction, Cultural Studies is able to maintain not only its epistemological ground but also its methodological communicability.

  • 본 논문은 두 개의게이트웨이를 사용한 격자구저망에서 최적의 게이트웨이 위치 설정을 위한 알고리즘을 제안하고 원리를 유도하였다. 최적의 게이트웨이 위치란 격자구조망내 각 노드에서 게이트웨이까지의 평균 최소 링크 수를 가지는 위치로 정의한다. 두 개의 게이트웨이르 사용함으로써 망내의 신뢰도 향상 효과를 가져오며, 우회 경로로 인한 호차단 확률(call blocking probability)과 호설정시간(call setup time)을 최소화한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 망의 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 두 개의 게이트웨이의 최적의 위치를 결정하는 Grid-Traverse 알고리즘을 제안하고 설정원리들을 유도하여 , 수학적 귀납법으로 이 원리들을 증명하였다.

Comparative Study on Teaching of 'Mathematical Induction' in South and North Korea (교과서에 나타난 '수학적 귀납법'에 대한 남.북한 비교)

  • There are various methods of proving a proposition. Among these, 'mathematical induction' is treated in school mathematics weightly. But many students have difficulty with the proof by 'mathematical induction'. To solve this problem, analysis needs to be attempted in various aspects This study attempts to compare the teaching methods of 'mathematical induction' in South and North Korea and to acquire the implication. In fact, many differences between South and North Korea are found. These differences are caused by epistemological and psychological premise. Therefore this study investigates the epistemological and psychological aspects in North Korea and compares the textbooks in South and North Korea. Through this study, some implications are found. First, the sequence of introducing the 'mathematical Induction' needs to be considered. Second, the rich context of applying the 'mathematical induction' is needed. Finally, disagreement between curriculum and textbook in South Korea needs to be reconsidered.
