This study investigates the bending stress, shear stress and deformation energy happening at the inner fiber structure when the bending moment is applied to he specimen with flat shape composed of carbon fiber. As CFRP is composed of innumerable fibers with multi-axes, the stress under bending condition can be effectively distributed. Theses stresses is shown to increase again at the starting point as this angle of $60^{\circ}$. Therefore, the condition at the stacking angle of $60^{\circ}$ is seen to become most adequate under the state where the bending stress happens. On the basis of this study result, the damage property by the bending at the plate due to stacking angle was examined through the analytic approach. it is thought that this study can be devoted to the safe design for damage prevention and durabilty improvement. Also, the esthetic sense can be shown as the designed factor of shape with flat plate is grafted onto the convergence technique.

In a photoelastic experiment, it is necessary to know the material stress fringe constant of the photoelastic specimen to determine the stresses from the measured isochromatic fringe orders. The material stress fringe constant can be obtained using a simple tension specimen and/or a circular disk under diametric compression. In these methods, there is generally a need to apply numerous loads to the specimen in response to the relationship of the fringe order. Then, the least squares method is used to obtain the material constant. In this paper, the fringe orders that appear on a four-point bending specimen are used to determine the fringe constant. This method requires four photoelastic fringes obtained from a circular polariscope by rotating the analyzer to 0, ${\pi}/4$, ${\pi}/2$, and $3{\pi}/4$ radians. Using the four-point bending specimen to determine the material stress fringe constant has an advantage because measurements can be made at different locations by applying a constant load. The stress fringe constant measured with this method is within the range suggested by the manufacturer of the photoelastic material.

The structural behavior of sandwich plates with unsymmetricaly thick faces are analysed using Raleigh-Ritz Energy method by comparing the bending stresses, shear stresses, local bending stresses, membrane stresses of skin and core materials including local bending effect. As for sandwich materials, the combination of two types of face materials and three types of core materials are used in the analysis.

In this paper, a stress function-based approach was proposed to analyze the reduction of free-edge peeling stress in smart composite laminates using piezoelectric actuator under bending load. Electro-mechanically coupled governing equation was obtained by complimentary virtual work principle. The stress state was solved by the generalized eigenvalue procedure. The free-edge peeling stress of smart composite laminates was reduced by the piezoelectric actuation. The reduction rate of peeling stress in cross-ply composite laminate is larger than that in angle ply composite laminate.

In this study, tensile tests were performed on specimens that simulated the cold-bending and heat-treatment of pipe bends to understand the mechanical properties of pipe bends manufactured by cold-bending followed by heat-treatment for relieving residual stress. The strength and ductility of cold-worked materials were respectively found to be higher and lower than those of the parent material although heat-treatment was carried out to relieve residual stress. In addition, the increase in strength and decrease in ductility were proportional to the applied strain levels for cold-working. It was thus inferred that the intrados and extrados regions of pipe bends that were cold-bended and heat-treated show higher strength and lower ductility compared to the parent straight pipe and that the mechanical properties at the crown region are nearly the same as those of the parent straight pipe.
Most ships and offshore structures are equipped with a variety of pipes, which inevitably contain curved portions. While it has been a usual practice to conduct bending stress analyses of these curved pipes using the straight-beam theory, this paper adopts two different types of finite elements, straight-beam elements and two-dimensional shell elements, for finite element analyses of a variety of curved pipes. It then compares the analysis results for two different types of elements to determine correction factors, which can be used to transform the bending displacements and bending stresses obtained by straight-beam elements to those obtainable by two-dimensional shell elements. The paper ends with a practical suggestion on how to efficiently use these correction factors to estimate the combined axial and normal stresses in a curved portion of a pipe.

In the fracture mechanics, the determination of the stress intensity factor value is vital for the prediction of a material fracture behavior. So many data concerning to the S.I.F. have been presented by many investigations to meet endless requrement. In this paper, the stress intensity factors of a sheet with an eccentrically inclined crack subjected to the pure bending moment were investigated theoretically by using of the complex mapping function to determine the Muskelishvili's comlex stress functions. Moreover, the theoretical value was compared with the result obtained from photoelastic esperiment. As a result, it was confirmed that both values coincided with satisfactorily within the margin of 2-3% devition; The results theoretically derived are right.

As OPB and IPB moment-induced fatigue damage on mooring chain links were reported for a offloading buoy, verification of OPB and IPB fatigue has been a key engineering item in offshore structure mooring design. Mathematical and physical features of the conventional approach which was mainly explained in BV guideline are reviewed and disadvantages of the conventional approach are addressed in terms of stress proportionality and nonlinearity of OPB and IPB moments. In order to eradicate these disadvantages, a novel approach is newly proposed which is able to dispel apprehension on stress proportionality and is not dependent of nonlinearities of OPB and IPB moments. Significant differences between two approaches are suggested by comparing relations of OPB moment versus OPB interlink angle and IPB moment versus IPB interlink angle. For periodic OPB tension angle processes having three different OPB angle ranges with a simple irregular tension process, fatigue damage calculation reveals that OPB moment-induced fatigue damage has dominant portion to total fatigue damage. Comparative studies between two approaches also show that the conventional approach based on BV guideline predicts fatigue damage far conservatively since it assume unrealistic high stress concentration factor for tension load. Meanwhile IPB moment-induced fatigue damage is negligible compared to tension-induced fatigue damage.

Creep analysis takes much more time than elastic or elastic-plastic analysis. In this study, we conducted elastic and elastic-plastic analysis and compared the results with creep analysis results. In the elastic analysis, we used primary stress, which can be classified by the $M{\alpha}-tangent$ method and stress intensities recommended in the ASME code. In the elastic-plastic analysis, we calculated the parameters recommended in the R5 code. For the FE models, a bending load, uniaxial load, and biaxial load were applied to the cross shaped welded plate, and a bending load and internal pressure were applied to the elbow pipe. To investigate the element size sensitivity, we conducted FE analysis for various element sizes for the cases where bending load was applied to the cross shaped welded plate. There was no significant difference between the creep stress and the alternative methods; however, in the $M{\alpha}-tangent$ method, the results were affected by the element size.
