  • Since risks occurring in construction projects can have a significant impact on schedules and costs, there have been many studies on this topic. However, risk analysis is often limited to only certain construction situations, and experience-dependent decision-making is therefore mainly performed. Data-based analyses have only been partially applied to safety and contract documents. Therefore, in this study, cluster analysis and a Word2Vec algorithm were applied to formal documents that contain important elements for contractors or clients. An initial classification of document content into six types was performed through cluster analysis, and 157 occurrence types were subdivided through application of the Word2Vec algorithm. The derived terms were re-classified into five categories and reviewed as to whether the terms could develop into potential construction risk factors. Identifying potential construction risk factors will be helpful as basic data for process management in the construction industry.

  • Byeolseo was located in various places with beautiful natural scenery to avoid the mundane world and for country life in seclusion. In this study, to classify locational type and characteristics of Byeolseo in Gyeongsangnamdo and Jeollado areas, complex locational types and characteristics of total 96 Byeolseo (52 in Gyeongsangnamdo and 44 in Jeollado) were researched and cluster analysis was executed to group locational characteristics to several clusters with similar characteristics in order to classify locational types of Byeolseo. As the result, locational type for Gyeongangnam-do and Jeolla-do were classified to 5 types each. Unique locational types Gyeongsangnamdo were 'valley type' and 'cliff type' and unique ones for Jeollado were 'flatland type' and 'riverside.hill type'. 'Hill type', 'curvy river type' and 'riverside other type' were shown in both areas. In Gyeongangnamdo, 30.8% was cliff type and 15.4% was valley type 46.2% of the total was locatedon 'cliff near river' or 'valley'. These were the most popular locational characteristics of Gyeongangnamdo. Unlike Gyeongangnamdo, 18.2% was flatland type, 18.2% is riverside.hill type, and 39.6% was hill type in Jeollado 75.0% of the total was locatedon 'flatland', 'on hill near river' or 'on hils'. These were the most popular locational characteristics of Jeollado. Such locational characteristics showed that Byeolseo was located using nearby scenery considering topographic characteristics of the located area.

  • The study aims to identify the degree and types of spatial recessions in Si/Gun and Eup/Myun units within Chungcheong region in South Korea to contribute to the efforts being made to diagnose the rural recession and the potentials. To this end, we analyzed 27 Sis and Guns to identify the degree of recession and potentials of rural areas in Chungcheong region. We also carried out the diagnosis and K-Means Clustering on 274 Eups and Myuns, smaller administrative units, to figure out the types and characteristics of the rural recessions. In case of the analysis targeting the Sis and Guns, a relatively high degree of rural recession was found in Cheongyang, Seocheon and Taean for Chungcheongnam-do, and in Danyang and Goisan, as well as in Boeun, Okcheon and Youngdong - which are collectively called as 'Southern 3 Areas in Chungcheongbuk-do' as they are conventionally known by their high degree of rural recession. According to the results of the clustering analysis carried out on the 166 Eups and Myuns, there were five outstanding clusters. They were; areas with housing deterioration (29), areas with poor economic foundation (16), areas with poor accessibility to central areas (42), areas with poor residential environment (51) and areas with aged population (28). The findings and results of the present study are likely to serve as a basis for the design and enforcement of forthcoming rural area activation policies. Also, it would be highly recommended that a more comprehensive diagnosis is taken from a community-level perspective and policy suggestions and strategies tailored for rural communities are further discussed.

  • In order to examine the type of PAI profile for criminally charged juvenile offenders, the study sought to find out personality types and behavioral characteristics of 251 juvenile offenders and 173 ordinary adolescents from 2018-2020. Looking at the overall profiles of juvenile offenders and ordinary adolescents, we found differences in Infrequency(INF), Mania(MAN), Antisocial Features(ANT), Alcohol problems(ALC), Drug problems(DRG), Aggression (AGG), and Dominance(DOM) and Warmth(WRM). Based on these results, we perform clustering as factors Antisocial features(ANT), Aggression(AGG), and Dominance (DOM) with an average difference of more than five points. It was classified as Cluster 1 with a high percentage of adolescents and Cluster 2 with a high percentage of juvenile offenders, and Cluster 1 was named as a defense group because it showed a similar model to the profile of ordinary adolescents. The profile type of cluster 2 was named externalization, which can be represented as an externalization group. The results were similar to previous studies, and the profile type of juvenile offenders has higher overall clinical scale than that of ordinary adolescents, indicating behavioral problems. Continued research on juvenile offenders could lead to understanding of youth as well as juvenile offenders.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the difference of leisure time use of elderly groups clustered with demographic factors and finally produce the leisure profile. A total 5392 time diaries, filled up by 65-years old and over in 2009 Time Use Survey, were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, correlation, cluster analysis, and ANOVA accompanied with the Scheffe's tests. The subjects could be clustered into 7 groups such as still working, work than leisure, hobby with friends, various leisure in a city, with religion and friendship, working and doing leisure in their spare time, and leisure in suburb based upon demographic factors such as age, gender, spouse, education, job, income and living area. The data also revealed that the clusters had different time use patterns in pursuing leisure. Overall, leisure in later life could be influenced by working status, and play an important role in filling their loss of job or spouse. The findings could help us plan upcoming leisure program and policies for the elderly.

  • Twenty years have passed since the adoption of natural recreation forests and each forest has its own characteristics. However, there is hardly any classification among the natural recreation forests. The purpose of this study is to classify the forests by considering the supplier's perspective as well as the user's perspective in order to provide fundamental materials for the operation of the natural recreation forests. A factor analysis was conducted to identify the common characteristics of the selected twelve variables by pre-selection and survey of experts. K-means cluster analysis was conducted among those factors to classify the natural recreation forests in Korea. Four factors were drawn after the factor analysis and the factors were named according to the variables and sizes as 'The use performance and visiting condition factor', 'Education and settlement factor', 'Internal activation factor' and 'Potential factor' In addition, the cluster analysis of an $85{\times}4$ matrix was conducted for the points of the drawn factors and the final classification consists of five groups. The results of this study may contribute to providing fundamental materials for the operation and management of natural recreation forests. Also, it may act as a reference when investigating the natural recreation forests of Korea. Proposing the classification natural recreation forests could be helpful in selecting the proper recreation forest in the future. Based on the established model, fundamental materials could be provided to improve the profitability of the natural recreation forests by effectively expanding the number of tourists, creating new natural recreation forests and proper maintenance and management.

  • This study begins with two research interests. Firstly, there seems to be a break of research in the field of family policy in Korea which exists especially in regard to family law. Family law was originally the core of state interventions in family life, but has been neglected because of the lack of literature with comparative research methods. This shortcoming needs to be addressed. Secondly, through inquiry into the definition of family or family policy with the lens of the law, the definition of family or family policy can be correctly extended. With these two interests combined, this research tries to derive an analytical tool - maintenance community - of the law and compare some important points of the family law of Korea with those of 16 EU-countries in terms of regime classification. The method used is, firstly, to describe the subjects of family law with a focus on partnering and parenting without subjective interpretation, and secondly, to classify the countries' family-law regimes with the criteria of privacy and autonomy using cluster analysis. The results show that the countries can be classified into three clusters: Nordic (Norway and Sweden), West-Northern (Denmark, France, England, Finland, and Belgium) and Middle South (Italy, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, Germany, and Korea). This result can be compared to a precedent research result which showed that 21 OECD countries can be classified in three clusters according to family policy. The number of the clusters is the same as this study, but some countries belong to other clusters; for example Denmark and Finland belong to the Nordic cluster according to family policy, while they belong to the West-Northern according to family law, and Austria, Germany, and Ireland belong to the Middle-South cluster according to family law, while they belong to the Continental according to family policy. From this result we can interpret Korean family law to be in the middle range according to both criteria of privacy and autonomy like other South-European countries including some Continental countries. We can make some theoretical suggestions. The fact that both family law and family policy regimes in countries can be classified into three clusters can be interpreted to mean that there exists parallelism between family law and family policy in a broad sense. But from the fact that some countries belong to different clusters according to family law and family policy, we can say that the family policy in a country is not always consistent with family law.

  • We propose classifying the venture firms into four types of knowledge management. For this purpose, we collected questionnaire data from 101 venture firms listed in KOSDAQ, and applied a unsupervised neural network algorithm SOM to obtain four clusters representing knowledge management types-High Tech Type, Organizational Knowledge Type, Information Technology Type, and Beginner Type. Based on the results, we conclude that the venture firms listed in KOSDAQ should first know its own knowledge management type, and then apply appropriate strategies to take advantage of the knowledge management impacts on the competitiveness.

  • This paper classifies cities in the metropolitan area based on natural hazard vulnerability. The procedure of our empirical analysis is divided into three parts as follows: First, it summarizes variables related to natural hazard vulnerability to significant factors, carrying out principal component analysis. Second, it classifies cities in the metropolitan area, conducting cluster analysis using factor scores. Lastly, it proposes differential measures for natural hazard mitigation for classified cities in the metropolitan area, based on natural hazard vulnerability.
