  • In order to evaluate the diversity and change of bacterial population during the manufacturing process of traditional soybean paste (doenjang), bacterial communities were analyzed using 16S rRNA gene-based pyrosequencing. In rice straw, the most important inoculum source for fermentation, the bacterial sequences with a relative abundance greater than 1% were assigned to four phyla, Proteobacteria (71%), Actinobacteria (20.6%), Bacteroidetes (4.2%), and Firmicutes (1.3%). Unlike bacterial community composition of rice straw, a different pattern of bacterial population in meju was observed with predominantly high abundance (99.1%) of Firmicutes. Phylum composition in young doenjang was almost same as that of meju. Major genera in young doenjang were Bacillus (81.3%), Clostridium (6.9%) and Enterococcus (6.3%) and the predominant species among bacterial population was B. amyloliquefaciens (63.6%). Abundance of the phylum Firmicutes in mature doenjang was 99.98%, which was even higher value than those in meju and young doenjang. Predominant species in mature doenjang were B. amyloliquefaciens (67.3%), B. atrophaeus (12.7%), B. methylotrophicus (6.5%), B. mojavensis (3.2%), and B. subtilis. (2.5%), which were also identified as major species of the microbial flora in meju. These results suggested that rice straw was a primary source for supplement of Bacillus species in manufacturing the traditional doenjang and that some species of Bacillus strains were mainly involved in the fermentation process of traditional doenjang.

  • The community size of culturable heterotrophic bacteria and community level physiological profiles (CLPP) in the rhizosphere of Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis (Chinese cabbage) were analyzed in two different sites. The average community size of culturable heterotrophic bacteria ranged between $2.65\times10^6CFU\;g^{-1}$ soil (Suwon) and $3.75\times10^6CFU\;g^{-1}$ soil (Yesan), whereas those of bulk soils ranged between $2.45\times10^6CFU\;g^{-1}$ soil (Suwon) and $2.97\times10^6CFU\;g^{-1}$ soil (Yesan). The average functional richness of Suwon rhizoshpere was 90.8, whereas that of Yesan rhizosphere was 154.1. High level of correlation was found between the community size and functional richness. The most actively utilized substrates in both rhizospheres were adonitol, L-asparagine, D-gluconic acid, L-glutamic acid and D-galacturonic acid. Clear differences were seen in the utilization patterns between the two sites. Differences were also observed for the patterns of bulk soils between the two sites, although D-raffinose and D-mannose were found as the commonly utilized substrates.

  • In this paper, a PID controller with adaptive neural network compensator is proposed to control the formations of mobile robot. The control system is composed of a kinematic controller based on the leader-following robot and dynamic controller for considering the dynamics of the mobile robot. The dynamic controller is constituted by a PID controller and the adaptive neural network compensator for improving the performance and compensating the change in dynamic characteristics. Simulation results show the performance of the PID controller and the neural network compensator for the circular trajectory and linear trajectory. And it is verified that by improving the performance of a PID controller via the adaptive neural network compensator, the following robot's tracking performance is improved.

  • Brain gene expression information is closely related to the structural and functional characteristics of the brain. Thus, extensive research has been carried out on the relationship between gene expression patterns and the brain's structural organization. In this study, Principal Component Analysis was used to extract features of gene expression patterns, and genes were automatically classified by spatial distribution. Voxels were then clustered with classified specific region expressed genes. Finally, we visualized the clustering results for mouse hippocampal region gene expression with the Allen Brain Atlas. This experiment allowed us to classify the region-specific gene expression of the mouse hippocampal region and provided visualization of clustering results and a brain atlas in an integrated manner. This study has the potential to allow neuroscientists to search for experimental groups of genes more quickly and design an effective test according to the new form of data. It is also expected that it will enable the discovery of a more specific sub-region beyond the current known anatomical regions of the brain.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the differences in bird communities in breeding season between coniferous forests of Mt. Namsan and Gwangneung areas from April to August 2006. We chose a study site of 10ha in size for territory mapping of breeding bird community in each area. There were significant difference in DBH distribution of trees and average foliage profiles between both study areas. Number of breeding species and pairs, breeding density, and bird species diversity were higher in Gwangneung area than in Mt. Namsan area. Number of bird species and breeding pairs belonged to hole and canopy guild were different between both study areas. The difference in breeding bird communities between both study areas may be related with forest structure. For the protection and management of birds, greater structural complexity would be needed in Mt. Namsan area.

  • This study is a fundamental research to determine the emergency evacuation roads considering road network function and connectivity. First of all, the functional aspects of the road networks are analyzed in the target area, Sejong city, by using degree centrality(DC) and closeness centrality(CC) from GIS based database. Secondly, how network connectivity makes a change in user's travel pattern and travel time and how it affects the whole network are analyzed using TransCAD simulation program. Finally, after performing cluster analysis of index, first and second emergency evacuation roads are determined by judging the characteristics of clusters. The results of this research will be helpful for making a decision to diminish secondary damages when confronting unexpected disasters.

  • In this study, a wastewater treatment system for hypersaline wastewater utilizing the Hypersaline Wastewater Treatment Community (HWTC) has been developed. The hypersaline wastewater treatment efficiency and microbial community of the HWTC were investigated. The average removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand were 84% in an HRT of 2.5 days. Microbial community analysis, by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA gene fragments and 16S rRNA gene clone library, revealed community diversity. The 16S rRNA gene analysis of dominant microbial bacteria in 4% hypersaline wastewater confirmed the presence of Halomonas sp. and Paenibacillus sp. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that the taxonomic affiliation of the dominant species in the HWTC was ${\gamma}$-proteobacteria and firmicutes. These results indicate the possibility that an appropriate hypersaline wastewater treatment system can be designed using acclimated sludge with a halophilic community.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method and process for hybrid V2X communication platform that combines WAVE communication and LTE-V2X communication which are C-ITS communication protocols for vehicle environments and Legacy LTE communication which is a commercial mobile communication for evaluating the autonomous platooning platform of commercial vehicles. For a safe and efficient autonomous platooning platform, an low-latency communication function based on C-ITS communication is required, and to control it, commercial communication functions such as Legacy LTE, which can be connected at all times, are required. In order to evaluate such a system, the evaluation equipment must have the same level of communication performance or higher. The main design contents presented in this paper will be applied to the implementation of hybrid V2X terminals for functional evaluation.
