Observation of Tribologically Transformed Structures and fretting Wear Characteristics of Nuclear Fuel Cladding (핵연료 봉의 마찰변태구조 관찰과 프레팅 마멸 특성)

  • In this research, fretting tests were conducted in air to investigate the wear characteristics of fuel cladding materials with the fretting parameters such as normal load, slip amplitude, frequency and the number of cycles. A high frequency fretting wear tester was designed for this experiment by KAERI. After the experiments, the wear volume and the shape of wear contour were measured by the surface roughness tester. Tribologically transformed structures(TTS) were analysed by means of optical and scanning electron microscopes to identify the main wear mechanisms. The results of this study showed that the wear volume were increased with increasing slip amplitude, and the shape of wear contour was transformed V-type to W-type. Also, it was found that the critical slip amplitude was 168${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. These phenomena mean that wear mechanism transformed partial slip to gross slip to accelerate wear volume. The wear depth increased with an increase of friction coefficient due to increase of normal load and frequency. The fretting wear mechanisms were believed that, after adhesion and surface plastic deformation occurred by relative sliding motion on the contact between two specimens, TTS creation was induced by surface strain hardening and wear debris were detached from the contact surface which were produced by the micro crack propagation and creation.

S.D.O.F Macro-element for Interaction of Deep Foundation (단자유도 매크로요소를 이용한 깊은기초의 상호작용 모델)

  • In this paper single degree of freedom macro-element model was presented to investigate the interaction between soil and the deep foundation under the lateral loads. It was made by modelling each component related to the soil-structure interaction and combining them into one piece. It enhanced the conventional method that was not able to break down the interaction components in piece due to the usage of simple spring element for interaction. A proposed macro-element classified the stress components in relation to the interaction into frictional and compressive resistance. Each component was modelled using the classical plasticity theory, and finally combined in parallel. An example study was carried out using the proposed macro-element for deep foundation embedded in three layered cohesive soil. It showed improved results compared to the conventional method by producing additional information of the interaction components as well as the overall behavior of foundation.

A Study on the Friction Welding of SM45C/SM20C-Pipe which Used in the Light Piston-Rod (경량화 쇽업소바 피스톤로드에 사용되는 SM45C/SM20C-Pipe의 마찰용접에 관한 연구)

  • Various researches to reduce weight of a vehicle are achieving. One of these researches is tendencious to manufacture the hollow piston rod using friction welding instead of solid one of the vehicle shock absorber. This study deals with the friction welding of SM45C to SM20C-pipe that is used normally in the vehicle shock absorber. The friction time was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 55MPa, upset pressure of 75MPa, and upset time of 2.0seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests of friction weld were studied and so the results were as follows. When the friction time was l.5seconds under the conditions, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld happened to be 837MPa, which is 113% of SM20C's tensile strength and 97% of SM45C's. The optimal welding conditions were n=2,000rpm, $P_1=55MPa$, $P_2=75MPa$, $t_1=1.5sec$, $t_2=2.0sec$ when the total upset length is 1.7mm.

Numerical Analysis on the Effect of Increasing Stiffness of Geosynthetics on Soil Displacement and Pile Efficiency in Piled Embankment on Soft Soil (성토지지말뚝구조에서 토목섬유 인장강성 증가에 따른 변위 억제 및 말뚝효율 증가량에 대한 수치해석적 분석)

  • A numerical analysis on the effect of increasing tensile stiffness of the geosynthetics on the soil displacement and pile efficiency was conducted. Parametric studies by changing the stiffness of soft soil, internal friction and dilatancy angles of the embankment material, and flexual stiffness of the composite layer including the geosynthetics were carried out. In general, increasing stiffness of the geosynthetics improves the pile efficiency, whereas the amount of its improvement depends on the condition of parameters. In case of the sufficiently low stiffness of the soft soil or high flexual stiffness of the composite layer including the geosynthetics, a noticeable increase in the pile efficiency can be observed. When the stiffness of the soft soil is very low, the increase in the stiffness of the geosynthetics can significantly reduce the vertical displacement in the piled embankment. When the flexual stiffness of the composite layer is sufficiently high, increasing stiffness of the geosynthetics can greatly improve the pile efficiency.

Stability evaluation of reinforced earth walls based on large-scale modular blocks (대형 축조블록을 이용한 보강토옹벽의 안정성 평가)

  • This paper describes external and internal stability of reinforced earth wall using large-scale modular block and geogrid reinforcement. The evaluation for external and internal stability was conducted to analyze effect of wall height, reinforced soil (or backfill soils) and reinforcement strength. The external stability showed that the analysis cases were satisfied with design criteria, when the required minimum length and vertical spacing of reinforcement were 0.7H and 1m, respectively. The internal stability conformed that some cases were satisfied with design criteria in $25^{\circ}$ of internal friction angle of reinforced soil. Expecially, it will be applicable as wall structure considering a structural stability and economic efficiency based on evaluation of internal stability.

Effect of Nanomesh Structure Variation on the Friction and Wear Characteristics of Carbon Nanotube Coatings (탄소나노튜브 코팅의 마찰/마모 특성에 대한 나노메쉬 구조의 영향)

  • In various fields, several studies based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been conducted. The results of previous studies, wherein CNT coatings have been incorporated as solid lubricants, demonstrate that the friction and wear characteristics of CNT coatings can be improved through the absorption/dispersion of the contact pressure by controlling the stiffness of the nanomesh structure comprising CNT strands. In this study, the friction and wear characteristics of the following are compared: CNT coating formed by spin coating of CNT solution, compressed CNT coating, and compressed/heated CNT coating (wherein CNT strands are squeezed through compression and/or heating). It is observed that the friction coefficient of the CNT coating having the largest number of voids between the CNT strands is significantly lower than those of the compressed CNT coating and the compressed/heated CNT coating. The wear tracks of the compressed CNT coating and the compressed/heated CNT coating indicate that some parts become torn or adhere into a lump. However, in the case of the CNT coating, a smooth wear surface is formed by rubbing. Furthermore, as the void space between the squeezed and adhered CNT strands decreases, the resistance to structural deformation increases, thereby resulting in an increased frictional force and a wear pattern that becomes torn or forms a lump. Hence, the results obtained from this study corroborate that the friction and wear characteristics of CNT coatings can be enhanced through the absorption/dispersion of the contact pressure by controlling the stiffness of the nanomesh structure of CNT coatings.

Structural Behavior of Beam-to-Column Connections of Circular CFT Structures Improving Concrete Filling (충전성을 개선한 원형 CFT구조의 기둥-보 접합부 구조적 거동)

  • A concrete-filled tube is a concrete-filled steel tube structure. The steel tube confines the concrete to increase the compressive strength, and the concrete contains the buckling of the tube. CFT structures require a diaphragm to prevent buckling of steel at connections. An outer diaphragm has better concrete filling than a through diaphragm due to a large bore, but being larger than the through diagram, it has poorer constructability and cooperation with building equipment. In this study, a CFT structure that uses different types of diaphragms in its upper and lower connections to improve the concrete filling was tested and analyzed via the FEM program. The building structure had a floor slab that was unified with the upper diaphragm, so the outer diaphragm was placed at the upper bound. Moreover, the through diaphragm was placed at the lower connection to avoid obstruction from building equipment. The CFT structure with the improved concrete filling showed the same structural behavior as the CFT structure with the use of the same type of diaphragms at the upper and lower connections.

  • Subsea oil and gas exploration is increasingly moving into deeper water depths, and typically, subsea pipelines operate under high pressure and temperature conditions. Owing to the difference in these components, the axial force in the pipe is accumulated. When a pipeline is operated at a high internal pressure and temperature, it will attempt to expand and contract for differential temperature changes. Typically, the line is not free to move because of the plane strain constraints in the longitudinal direction and soil friction effects. For a positive differential temperature, it will be subjected to an axial compressive load, and when this load reaches a certain critical value, the pipe may experience vertical (upheaval buckling) or lateral (snaking buckling) movements that can jeopardize the structural integrity of the pipeline. In these circumstances, the pipeline behavior should be evaluated to ensure the pipeline structural integrity during operation in those demanding loading conditions. Performing this analysis, the correct mitigation measures for thermal buckling can be considered either by accepting bar buckling but preventing the development of excessive bending moment or by preventing any occurrence of bending.

  • 본 논문은 회전자에 영구자석을 사용한 2극 단상 브러시리스 모타에서의 기동토오크 특성에 관한 연구결과를 소개함에 목적이 있다. 본 논문에서와 같은 구조의 모타에서의 토오크는 전자기력에 의한 기동력과 코깅 토오크에 의한 영향력 두가지로 구분다. 본 논문에서는 기동토오크의 이론적 구조식을 유도하고, 문리 적 운동방정식과 결합하여 기동시 나타나는 특성을 나타내었다. 본 논문의 목적은 보다 보편적인 기동토오크에 의한 회전자의 운동을 구명하고자 함인데, 이 목적을 위하여 일반적 전원으로 사용하는 연속 직류전류가 아니라, 비연속적이고 정현파 형태의 일펄스 반파 전류를 전원으로 사용하였다. 이때 나타나는 임펄스 응답특성은, 전류를 흘렸을 때, 대부분의 경우 모타의 회전자는 전류의 주기와 다른 주기를 가지고 반회전하였다. 모타 회전자의 반전주기는 입력전압, 영구자석의 자화의 강도, 그리고 관성계수 및 마찰 계수와 같은 기계적 상수에 의해 영향을 받는 것을 알수 있는데, 반전주기 속도가 모타의 동기속도와 적절하지 않는 경우, 모타의 회전은 이루어 지지 않거나 심한 흔들림(CHATTERINC)의 현상이 나타남을 발견하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 모타의 회전자를 동기속도로 구동을 하도록 하기위한 조건을 구하였다.

New Developing the Porous Geocell and Researches on its Properties (다공성 지오셀의 개발 및 특성 연구)

  • This paper summarized that the developing Geocell(Geocomb$^{(R)}$) cellular confinement system with a porous strip and the researches on its properties. The new geoell has shown excellent properties; frictional and permeable characteristics, and is expected to be a proper solution to various fields related.
