Vibration Control of Structures Using Viscoelastic Dampers Installed in Expansion Joints (신축이음부에 설치된 점탄성감쇠를 이용한 구조물의 진동제어)

  • The usual practice of placing viscoelastic dampers (VED) in the inter-story of building structures frequently interfere with spatial planning and obstruct internal view. These shortcomings can be overcome by installing VED in seismic joints or in expansion joints which are usually hidden under a cover. This study investigates the effect of installing VED in seismic joints to reduce earthquake-induced dynamic reponses. Parametric studies were conducted using 3-DOF systems connected by VED and subjected to earthquake excitations to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Nonlinear dynamic analyses were carried out with five-story structures composed of different structure systems and connected by seismic joints. According to the analysis results the use of VED in seismic joints turned out to be effective as long as the natural frequencies of the connected structures are different enough.

  • In this paper, a study of damage detection for 2-Dimensional Truss Structures using the parametric projection filter theorr is presented. Many researchers are interested in inverse problem and one of solution procedures for inverse problems that are very effective is the approach using the filtering algorithm in conjunction with numerical solution methods. In filtering algorithm, the Kalman filtering algorithm is well known and have been applied to many kind of inverse problems. In this paper, the Parametric projection filtering in conjunction with structural analysis is applied to the identification of damages in 2-D truss structures. The natural frequency and modes of damaged truss model are adopted as the measurement data. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the numerical examples.

  • Pressure control of hydraulic pump using SRM with pressure predictor and direct torque control method is presented in this paper. Nowadays, high efficiency and high performance motor drive is much interested in hydraulic pump system. But the hydraulic pump system has an inherent defect that its dynamic behavior causes by interaction between the sensor and hydraulic load. It will make low performance of whole system, even unstable and oscillatory. Proposed system integrates pressure predictor and direct instantaneous torque control (DITC). The pressure predictor includes Smith predictor, which is easy to improve unstable or long oscillation in traditional negative feedback control and popular PID control architectures. And DITC method can reduce inherent torque ripple of SRM, and develop smooth torque to load, which can increase stability and improve the torque response of SR drive. So high dynamic performance and stabilization can achieved proposed hydraulic system. At last, the proposed hydraulic system is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • Many types of smart materials and control laws are available to actively adjust the structure from various external disturbances. Usually, a certain type of control laws to activate a specific smart material is well established, but the effectiveness of the control scheme is limited by the choice of the smart materials and the responses of the structure. ER fluid is adequate to provide relatively large control force, on the other hand, the PZT patches are suitable to provide small but arbitrary control forces at any point along the structure. It was found that active vibration control mechanism using ER fluid failed to suppress the excitation off the resonant frequency with changed structural characteristics along the frequency response function of the closed loop of the control system. To compensate this additional peak of the closed loop system, PPF control using PZT as an actuator is added to construct a hybrid controller.

  • 간접띠간격(indirect bandgap)을 갖는 층상형 반도체 $MoS_2$는 두께가 줄어들어 단일층이 되면 층간 상호작용의 변화로 인해 ~1.8 eV의 직접띠간격(direct bandgap)을 갖게 된다. 이러한 초박형 $MoS_2$의 발광 특성을 활용하기 위해서는 원자 크기 수준에서 두께와 물성을 조절할 수 있는 화학적 표면개질법에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 최근 아르곤(Ar) 플라즈마를 이용한 $MoS_2$의 층상(layer-by-layer) 식각과 표면제어에 관한 연구결과가 보고되었으나 자세한 반응 메커니즘은 알려져 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 산소 플라즈마에 의한 단일층 및 복층 $MoS_2$의 산화반응을 원자힘 현미경(AFM), 광전자 분광법(XPS), 라만 및 광발광 분광법을 통해 관찰하고 반응 메커니즘을 이해하고자 한다. 플라즈마로 생성된 산소라디칼과의 반응시간이 증가함에 따라 $E{^1}_{2g}$$A_{1g}$-진동모드에서 기인하는 라만 신호, 그리고 A와 B-엑시톤에서 유래하는 광발광의 세기가 감소함을 확인하였다. XPS와 AFM을 통해 반응이 진행됨에 따라 $MoS_2$의 상층이 $MoO_3$로 산화되면서 나노입자로 응집되어 표면형태가 변화하는 것을 확인하였다. 이 결과는 플라즈마 산화반응을 이용하여 $MoS_2$ 표면에 구조적 결함(defect)과 층상 식각을 유발하고 광발광 특성 제어를 위해 전자구조를 조절할 수 있다는 가능성을 보여준다.

Structural Design of SAR Control Units for Small Satellites Based on Critical Strain Theory (임계변형률 이론에 기반한 초소형 위성용 SAR 제어부 전장품 구조설계)

  • The application of reinforcement design to ensure the structural safety of electronics in small satellites is limited by the spatial constraints of the satellite structure during launch vibrations. Additionally, a reliable evaluation approach is needed for mounting highly integrated devices that are susceptible to fatigue failure. Although the Steinberg fatigue failure theory has been used to assess the structural integrity of electronic devices, recent studies have highlighted its theoretical limitations. In this paper, we propose a structural methodology based on the critical strain theory to design the digital control unit (DCU) of the X-band SAR payload component for the small SAR technology experimental project (S-STEP), a small satellite constellation. To validate the design, we conducted modal and random analyses using simplified modeling techniques. Based on our methodology, we ultimately demonstrated the structural safety of the electronics through analysis results, safety margin derivation, and functional tests conducted both before and after the launch test.

Modeling on Structural Control of a Laminated Composite Plate with Piezoelectric Sensor/Actuators (압전재료를 이용한 복합적층판의 구조제어에 관한 모델링)

  • A finite element formulation of vibration control of a laminated plate with piezoelectric sensor/ actuators is presented. Classical lamination theory with the induced strain actuation and Hamilton's principle are used to formulate the equations of motion of the system. The total charge developed on the sensor layer is calculated from the direct piezoelectric equation. The equations of motion and the total charge are discretized with 4 node, 12 degrees of freedom quadrilateral plate bending elements with one electrical degree of freedom. The mass and stiffness of the piezoelectric layer are introduced by treating them as another layer in laminated plate. Piezoelectric sensor/actuators are distributed, but discrete due to the geometry of electrodes. By defining an i.d. number of electrode for each element, modelling of electrodes with variable geometry can be achieved. The static response of a piezoelectric bimorph beam to electrical loading and sensor voltage to given displacement are calculated. For a laminated plate under the negative velocity feedback control, the direct time response by the Newmark-.betha. method and damped frequencies and modal damping ratios by modal state space analysis are derived.

Seismic Responses Control of Coupled Shear Wall Structures Using LRBs (LRB를 이용한 병렬전단벽 구조물의 지진응답제어)

  • Most of shear wall structures require openings in shear walls and thus shear walls are linked by floor slabs or coupling beams resulting in the coupled shear wall structures. When these structures are subjected to seismic excitations, excessive shear forces are induced in coupling beams. Accordingly, brittle failure of coupling beams may occur or shear walls may yield first. To avoid this problem, damping devices can be installed in coupling beams. It can increase the vibration control effect and improve the seismic resistance performance of the coupled shear wall structure by avoiding stress concentration and the brittle failure of coupling beams. Based on this background research, an LRB (lead rubber bearing) was introduced in the middle of the coupling beam in this study and the authors investigated the seismic response control effect and stress distribution of the proposed system. To this end, a modeling technique that can effectively predict the structural behavior of coupled shear wall structures has been proposed. With this proposed technique, time history analyses of the example coupled shear wall structure subjected to seismic excitation were performed and the vibration control effects of the seismic responses were investigated.

Analysis on Dynamic Characteristics and LQR Control of a Quadrotor Aircraft with Cyclic Pitch (사이클릭 피치제어가 가능한 쿼드로터 항공기의 운동특성 분석과 LQR 제어)

  • Typical quadrotor aircraft use four differential thrust vectors to control the motion. In this study, we design a quadrotor aircraft using collective and cyclic control to improve the shortcomings of existing quadrotor aircraft. The quadrotor aircraft with cyclic control can fly at various attitudes due to the excessive control degrees of freedom. Hence the quadrotor aircraft with cyclic control is suitable as high performance aircraft. In this study, modeling and stability analysis of the quadrotor aircraft have been performed using FLIGHTLAB. LQR control systems were designed using linear models at various flight conditions and verified through nonlinear simulations using MATLAB.

Seismic Response Control of Adjacent Structures by Semi-Active Fuzzy Control of Magneto-Rheological Damper (MR 감쇠기의 준능동 퍼지제어기법을 이용한 인접구조물의 지진응답제어)

  • In this paper, a method for reducing seismic responses of adjacent buildings is studied that involves connecting two buildings with energy-dissipating devices, such as MR dampers. For the vibration control of the adjacent buildings, a fuzzy control technique with semi-active MR dampers is proposed. A fuzzy controller, which can appropriately modulate the damping forces by controlling the input voltage in real time, is designed according to the proposed method. To verify the validity of the proposed method, numerical simulations are performed. In the numerical simulations, historical earthquake records with diverse frequency contents and different peak values are used. For the purpose of comparison, an uncontrolled system, a passive control system and a semi-active fuzzy control system are considered. The comparative results prove the effectiveness of the proposed control technique, i.e. the numerical results show that the fuzzy controlled semi-active MR dampers can effectively reduce the earthquake responses of the adjacent structures.
