Deployable structures are widely used for space mission because of their advantages in storage and transportation coming from its transformability of configuration. The space structures should be designed with high stiffness to withstand the various types of disturbance that they encounter during operation. Especially for the deployable structures, the internal forces loaded on the component or the stiffness at its deployed configuration should be analyzed since they usually consist of the thin and light structures. In this paper, a dynamic model of the scissors structure is established and its deployment behavior is analyzed, especially focusing on the deployment speed and the internal force on each joint. In addition, modal analysis is carried out for the 1-stage and 2-stage scissors structures in order to analyze the stiffness of the scissors structure based on its deployed configuration. The fundamental mode shapes and natural frequencies are analyzed and discussed.
The influence of tunnelling on buildings has become an important issue in urban areas. The problem is an interactive one: not only do tunnelling settlements affect existing structures, but existing structures affect tunnel-induced soil movements. In order to examine the constraint of surface settlement and the degradation of building damage parameters, 3-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analyses are peformed. Also, in this paper, the results of the parametric studies for the variations of the damage parameters due to the ground movements are presented by utilizing 2-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element models, totally 162 models. The width of a structure, its bending and axial stiffness, its position relative to the tunnel and the depth of tunnel are considered. The interaction is shown by reference to commonly-used building damage parameters, namely angular distortion, deflection ratio, maximum building settlements, maximum differential settlements and horizontal strain. By introducing relative stiffness parameters which combine the bending and axial stiffness of the structure with its width and stiffness of soil, design curves are established. These give a guide as to the likely modification of the greenfield settlement trough caused by a surface structure. They can be used to give initial estimates of likely building damage.

In order to make a more reasonable evaluation on the stiffness of the high-strength mortar-filled sleeve bar splices under cyclic loading, we investigated and analyzed the existing experiment data of 106 full-sized reinforcing bar splices with test variables such as compressive strength of mortar, development length of reinforcement and sleeve type, etc. The following were found: 1) If mortar and the reinforcement development length with $f_{g^*}$(L/d) of more than 340 is used, the cast iron sleeve bar splices for SD350 and SD400 will have the stiffness of higher than A class of the AIJ code. 2) If mortar and the reinforcement development length with $f_{g^*}$(L/d) of more than 400 is used, the cast iron sleeve splices and pipe sleeve splices for SD500 will have the stiffness of higher than A class of the AIJ code.

This paper presents a new nonlinear analysis algorithm, that is, adaptive Newton-Raphson iteration method, The presented algorithm is based on the existing Newton-Raphson method, and the concept of it can be summarized as calculating the equivalent load for stiffness(ELS) and adapting this to the initial global stiffness matrix which has already been calculated and saved in initial analysis and finally calculating the correction displacements for the nonlinear analysis, The key characteristics of the proposed algorithm is that it calculates the inverse matrix of the global stiffness matrix only once irresponsive of the number of load steps. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm depends on the ratio of the active Dofs - the Dofs which are directly connected to the members of which the element stiffness are changed - to the total Dofs, and based on this ratio by using the proposed algorithm as a complementary method to the existing algorithm the efficiency of the nonlinear analysis can be improved dramatically.

Flexible structure uses a material with strong axial stiffness and small bending stiffness as its major structural material so it is very sensitive to initial stiffness. Therefore, the self-formation process which accomplishes a form in the natural world is grasped and it is as well investigated and classified the type of modeling techniques which are available to find the shapes of soft structures. Accordingly, for analysis and design of flexible structure, three-step analysis such as shape analysis, stress-deformation analysis, cutting pattern generation and constructional analysis is required unlike the existing stiff structure. In this study, suggest that minimize the error of side curvatures by the triangle Re-mesh pattern and draw the cutting pattern generation.

In recent years, 3D printing has received increasing attention due to its potential for direct fabrication beyond the traditional rapid prototyping. 3D printing has the advantage of being able to manufacture complicated shapes that were thought impossible to produce by traditional manufacturing processes. This advantage has driven applications of 3D printing to direct manufacturing of functional parts, such as lightweight structures and component integration. In this study, a porous shell structure is designed for the purpose of weight reduction and ventilation. Finite element (FE) analyses are performed to compare the effective stiffness of the porous structure with the conventional solid structure. Structural reinforcements are also considered in order to make up the stiffness reduction due to the porosity, and the relevant FE analyses are performed to investigate the effect of the reinforcement design on the bending stiffness. The optimized reinforced structure is then proposed through response surface analysis.
In this study, analytical investigations on the flexural behavior of FRP reinforced concrete slab were discussed. In the derivation of analytic solution, the FRP reinforced concrete slab was modeled as a structural orthotropic plate. To determine the flexural rigidities of an orthotropic plate model, the elastic equivalence method was employed. In the finite element analysis, the approximate method to determine the rigidity matrix of orthotropic plate element was also suggested using the elastic equivalence method. The results obtained by the analytical solution and the finite element analysis were compared with that of experiment.

The membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The material property of the membrane has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation. In shape finding, membrane structures are unstable structures initially. These soft structures need to be introduced initial stresses because of its initial unstable state, and happen large deformation phenomenon. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the convergence of solution and the speed according to the control variables and the method of shape analysis.

The failure of tenon in a traditional wood-framed structure may collapse of the entire structure. This study evaluates the strength and stiffness of tenon joints between the beams and pillars through experimental study and suggests reinforcing method of the tenon joint without dismantling the main structures. The main experimental parameters are the number, distance, shape, and inserting depth of spiral-shaped reinforcing steels. As the thickness of the tenon in beams increases, the strength and the initial shear stiffness of the joint increases and, however, the tenons in pillar becomes weaker, resulting in the safety problem of the structure. It is recommended that three spiral-shaped reinforcing steels be placed in the central parts of the tenon to effectively improve the strength and the shear stiffness of the joint.
