To investigate the enhancement in strength and deformation capacities of concrete confined by FRP composites, tests under axial loads were carried out on three groups of thirty six short columns in circular section with diverse GFRP confining reinforcement. The major test variables considered include fiber content or orientation, wrap or tube type by varying the end loading condition, and continuous or discontinuous confinement depending on the presence of vortical spices between its two halves. The circumferential FRP strains at failure for different types of confinements were also investigated with emphasis. Various analytical models capable of predicting the ultimate strength and strain of the confined concrete were examined by comparing to observed results. Tests results showed that FRP wraps or tubes provide the substantial increase in strength and deformation, while partial wraps comprising the vertical discontinuities fail in an explosive manner with less increase in strength, particularly in deformation. A bilinear stress-strain response was observed throughout all tests with some variations of strain hardening. The failure hoop strains measured on the FRP surface were less than those obtained from the tensile coupons in all tests with a high degree of variation. In overall, existing predictive equations overestimated ultimate strengths and strains observed in present tests, with a much larger scatter related to the latter. For more accuracy, two simple design- oriented equations correlated with present tests are proposed. The strength equation was derived using the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, whereas the strain equation was based on entirely fitting of test data including the unconfined concrete strength as one of governing factors.

The main objective of this study is to suggest section design method of CFFT(Concrete Filled FRP Tube) structures which are considered of confined effect by FRP tube and using high strength concrete and PS strands for pier. It may be stated that the proposed method may be implemented as a rational and practical approach for CFFT section design.
This study generalizes the lateral load-displacement relationship of reinforced concrete shear walls from the section analysis for moment-curvature response to straightforwardly evaluate the flexural capacity and ductility of such members. Moment and curvature at different selected points including the first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, 80% of the maximum strength at descending branch, and fracture of tensile reinforcing bar are calculated based on the strain compatibility and equilibrium of internal forces. The strain at extreme compressive fiber to determine the curvature at the descending branch is formulated as a function of reduction factor of maximum stress of concrete and volumetric index of lateral reinforcement using the stress-strain model of confined concrete proposed by Razvi and Saatcioglu. The moment prediction models are simply formulated as a function of tensile reinforcement index, vertical reinforcement index, and axial load index from an extensive parametric study. Lateral displacement is calculated by using the moment area method of idealized curvature distribution along the wall height. The generalized lateral load-displacement relationship is in good agreement with test result, even at the descending branch after ultimate strength of shear walls.

This paper presents moment-curvature analytical method of concrete filled steel tubular members considering intensity increase phenomenon by triaxial compression stress generation. For this purpose, this study considers buckling characteristics about compression department of steel members that filled up light weight and normal concrete. The analytical results are compared with the test results. Even if beam that filled up light weight concrete was calculated moment-curvature relationship easily analytically and could know that analytical results estimates as well agreed with the test results in case filled up normal concrete. In addition, the efficiency and applicabilities of the proposed moment curvature relationship algorithm are verified through conventional experimental results.

This paper estimates the structural performance of spirally confined concrete having electric arc furnace (EAF) oxidizing slag aggregates. The EAF oxidizing slag is a by-product generated from iron and steel industry. The EAF oxidizing slag have been largely put to low-value-added uses due to its expansive properties of the free-CaO and free-MgO. Recently, this problem has been solved by the advances in steelmaking technology and thereby stabilizing EAF oxidizing slag aggregate. To verify the application of the EAF oxidizing slag aggregate to the structural concrete usage, a total of 27 cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 150 mm and a height of 300 mm were cast and tested. The test parameters were aggregate type and spiral reinforcement yield strength. Experimental results showed that the structural performance of specimens with EAF oxidizing slag aggregates was equivalent to that of confined concrete with natural aggregates.

The carbon composite tube can play an important role in replacing or complementing longitudinal and transverse reinforcing steels by providing ductility and strength for conventional columns. In this study, both the experimental and analytical investigations of axial behavior of large-scale square concrete columns confined by carbon composite tube are presented. The specimens are filament-wound carbon composite with 90$^{\circ}$+30$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$+45$^{\circ}$ winding angle respect to longitudinal axis of tube. The instrumented large-scale concrete-filled composite tubes(CFCT) are subjected to monotonic axial loads exerted by 10,000kN UTM. The influence of winding angle, thickness of tube on stress-strain relationships of the confined columns is identified and discussed. Proposed equations to predict both the strength and ductility of confined columns by carbon composite tube demonstrate good correlation with test data obtained from large-scale specimens.

The stress-strain curve of concrete confined with both spiral and carbon fiber sheet(CFS) is different to that of concrete confined with only spiral or CFS. The objective of this study is to investigate the stress-strain relation of concrete confined by composite material. In this study, 24 concrete cylinders were tested. The main variable of the cylinders was the content rate of spiral to CFS. The test results indicated that while the compressive strength of cylinder confined with both spiral and CFS increased proportionally to the aided amount of two materials, the maximum strain of cylinder depended on the larger strain of spiral or CFS.
A recently developed three dimensional concrete law is used for the analysis of concrete specimens and reinforced concrete columns subjected to different load patterns. The hypoelastic, orthotropic concrete constitutive model includes coupling between the deviatoric and volumetric stresses, works with both proportional and non-proportional loads and is implemented as a strain driven module. The FE implementation is based on the smeared crack approach with rotating cracks parallel to the principal strain directions. The concrete model is validated through correlated studies with: (a) experimental tests on confined concrete cylinders; (b) experimental results on three reinforced concrete columns tested at the University of California, San Diego. The correlations are overall very good, and the FE responses capture all the main phenomena observed in the experimental tests.

The stress-strain curve of concrete confined with both lateral ties and carbon fiber sheet(CFS) is different to that of concrete confined with only lateral ties or CFS. The objective of this study is to investigate the stress-strain relation of reinforced concrete columns confined by composite material. The main variable of the specimens was the content rate of lateral ties to CFS. In the test a total 24 rectangular specimens, which are all 148$\times$148$\times$300mm size. The test results indicated that while the compressive strength of specimens confined with both lateral ties and CFS increased proportionally to the aided amount of two materials, the maximum strain of specimens depended on the larger strain of lateral ties or CFS.

This study established a BIM procedure considering manufacturing errors in the production process, and evaluated the flexural ductility of precast all-lightweight aggregate concrete special shear walls (PLASWs) with spliced sleeve technique. In the production process, the concrete cover thickness of PALSW was on average 1.28 times greater than the cross-sectional details of the specimen modeled with Revit BIM program. In particular, the bending inner radius of the hoop and inner-cross tie were greater than the designed details. Consequently, the confinement effect of core concrete reduced from 64% to 54% due to the manufacturing errors in the transverse reinforcing bars, resulting in a decrease in the ductility of PALSW by approximately 4.91%. Considering these findings, the BIM of PLASW with spliced sleeve technique should compliment the bending inner radius of the transverse reinforcing bars, and the defined brittleness increase coefficient reflecting the decreased core concrete confining pressure in the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete should be evaluated as 1.8.
