Experimental Study on the Shear Behavior of Reinforced Hooked-Steel-Fiver Concrete Beams (훅트강섬유보강 철근콘크리트보의 전단거동에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • SFRC overcomes brittleness of concrete and has increases strength due to the action of confmement, crack arrestmg mechan~sm and pull out resistances of steel f~bers ~ n s ~ d e the concrete. These lead also to the increased strength and ductility under the shear stress. It has been reported that the secondary remforcement effect of steel fibers IS more pronounced In shear than flexure. Addition of hooked stee!, fibers into the cementitious materials enhanced shear resistance and consequently improves structural behavior and shear strength of Reinforced Hooked-Steel-Fiber Concrete Ream(RHSFCI3) under the shear forces. Experimental observations were made on the main parameters effecting structural behavior of RHSFCB in this study. The volume fractions of fibers, shear span to depth ratios, and spaclngs of stlrrups were taken into account as the mam parameters. Some eyuatlons reported in the literatures, regardmg the predict~ons of the shear strength of RHSFCB have been evaluated stdtlst~cdlly based on the tot a1 number of 95 test results on RHSFCB faded In shear on shear flexu~al mode.

Long-Term Torsional Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Members with the Effects of Creep and Shrinkage (크리이프 및 건조수축의 영향을 고려한 프리스트레스트콘크리트 부재의 장기 비틀림 해석)

  • The purpose of the present study is to propose a realistic method to analyze the prestressed concrete members subjected to long term torsional loading. The present study devises a method to realistically take into account the tensile stiffness of concrete after cracking. The effects of biaxial compressive and tensile loadings on the compressive and tensile strengths of concrete are also taken into account in the present model. The salient feature of the present study lies in the fact that the cracking, creep, and shrinkage behavior of concrete and the relaxation of steel have been realistically considered. The comparison of the present theory with experimental data indicates that the proposed model dipicts reasonably well the actual behavior of prestressed concrete members under long-term torsional loadings.

Design Approach for Boundary Element of Flexure-Governed RC Slender Shear Walls Based on Displacement Ductility Ratio (휨 항복형 철근콘크리트 전단벽의 경계요소설계를 위한 변위연성비 모델제시)

  • This study established a displacement ductility ratio model for ductile design for the boundary element of shear walls. To determine the curvature distribution along the member length and displacement at the free end of the member, the distributions of strains and internal forces along the shear wall section depth were idealized based on the Bernoulli's principle, strain compatibility condition, and equilibrium condition of forces. The confinement effect at the boundary element, provided by transverse reinforcement, was calculated using the stress-strain relationship of confined concrete proposed by Razvi and Saatcioglu. The curvatures corresponding to the initial yielding moment and 80% of the ultimate state after the peak strength were then conversed into displacement values based on the concept of equivalent hinge length. The derived displacement ductility ratio model was simplified by the regression approach using the comprehensive analytical data obtained from the parametric study. The proposed model is in good agreement with test results, indicating that the mean and standard deviation of the ratios between predictions and experiments are 1.05 and 0.19, respectively. Overall, the proposed model is expected to be available for determining the transverse reinforcement ratio at the boundary element for a targeted displacement ductility ratio.

  • This paper presents an experimental study to investigate enhanced performance of the masonry walls strengthened in shear and ductility using honeycomb steel mesh. The performance of masonry walls strengthened with steel mesh will compare with unreinforced masonry walls to show the performance of reinforced masonry walls. According to the experiment, it is expected that this system is effective to enhance the shear strength and ductility of the masonry walls.

  • Concrete filled steel tube(CFT) has outstanding deformation capacity and strength in comparison with reinforced concrete or steel tube. CFT drilled shaft, which is developed large shear force due to seismic load and soil liquefaction, is designed as large diameter. However, shear design equations of the current standards do not consider bond stress of CFT and it results in extremely conservative design. Currently, previous studies for improving shear equations scarcely exist and are impossible applied to large CFT drilled shafts since these studies focus on only small scale experimental research. In this study, eventually to propose improving shear equation of large diameter CFT, it is preliminary research to compare and investigate the previous studies and current standards.

Hysteretic Behavior of R/C Shear Wall with Various Lateral Reinforcements in Boundary Columns for Cyclic Lateral Load (경계부재내 횡보강근 배근방법에 따른 R/C전단벽의 반복하중에 대한 이력거동)

  • This paper presents experimental results about shear wall with various lateral reinforcement details in boundary elements. The research objective is to study the structural behavior of shear wall with boundary column confined by rectangular spiral hoops and headed cross ties developed to improve workability in the fabrication of boundary columns. These two details can be fabricated in a factory and put together on-site after being delivered so that the construction work may be reduced. Main parameters in the experimental study were the types of hoop and cross tie: rectangular spiral hoop and headed cross tie vs. standard hoop and cross tie with hook. Four half scaled shear wall specimens with babel shape were made and tested by applying horizontal cyclic load under constant axial force, 10% of nominal compressive strength of concrete. Based on the test result, it was shown that the shear wall with rectangular spiral hoop and headed cross tie in boundary columns has structural capacity compatible with conventional shear wall. The specimen SW-Hh which has bigger hoop bar and higher volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcements than other showed improved energy dissipating characteristic but it presented a rapid reduction of strength after peak point. The results indicates that, it is necessary to consider volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcements as well as hoop space in designing of shear wall with boundary columns for improved strength and ductility.

Structural Performance of Concrete-encased Steel Columns using 800MPa Steel and 100MPa Concrete (800MPa 강재 및 100MPa 콘크리트를 적용한 매입형 합성기둥의 구조성능)

  • Five concrete-encased steel columns using high-strength steel($f_{ys}$=801MPa) and high-strength concrete($f_{ck}$=97.7MPa) were tested to investigate the eccentric axial load-displacement relationship. Test parameters included the type, yield strength, and spacing of lateral reinforcement, and also the eccentricity of axial load. To analyze the behavior of the column specimens, the nonlinear sectional analysis using strain-compatibility and confinement effect was performed. To examine the applicability of existing design codes for the composite sections using high-strength materials, the test results were also compared with the predictions by the nonlinear analysis and the design codes. The confinement effect of lateral reinforcement increased the ductility of concrete, and the moment capacity of the column specimens increased with the ductility of concrete. The prediction by the nonlinear analysis gave good agreement with the test results. On the other hand, the ACI 318 neglecting lateral confinement effect underestimated the strength of the column specimens, and the Eurocode 4 using complete plastic capacity of steel section overestimated.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the hysteretic behaviors of ultra-high strength concrete tied columns. The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety of ultra-high strength concrete columns with 100 MPa compressive strength for the requirement of ACI provisions. Eight 1/3 scaled columns were fabricated to simulate an 1/2 story of actual structural members with the cross section $300{\times}300mm$ and the aspect ratio 4. The main variables are axial load ratio, configurations and volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement. The results show that the deformability of columns are affected by the configurations and volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement. Especially, it has been found that the behavior of columns are affected by axial load ratio rather than the amounts and the configurations of transverse reinforcement. Consequently, to secure the ductile behavior of 100 MPa ultra-high strength concrete columns, ACI provisions for the requirement of transverse steel may considered axial load level and the details of transverse reinforcement.

Compression Test for Prefabricated Composite Columns Using High-Strength Steel Angles (고강도 앵글을 적용한 선조립 합성기둥의 압축 실험)

  • In this study, prefabricated composite columns using high-strength angles (PSRC composite column) was studied. Concentric axial loading tests were performed for 2/3 scale PSRC specimens and an conventional SRC specimen with H-steel at the center of the cross-section. The test parameters were the steel ratio of angles and the spacing of lateral re-bars. The test results showed that by placing the angles at the corners of the cross-section for confinement with provided for the core concrete, the PSRC column specimens exhibited greater load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity than those of the conventional SRC column. The axial load-carrying capacity of the PSRC columns was greater than the prediction by KBC 2009. Using existing stress-strain relationship of confined concrete, the axial load-deformation relationship of the specimens were predicted. The numerical predictions correlated well with the test results in terms of initial stiffness, load-carrying capacity, and post-peak strength- and stiffness-degradations.

Seismic Performance based Fragility Analysis of Bridge Structure in terms of Soil Conditions (지반조건을 고려한 교량의 내진성능기반 취약도 해석)

  • The damage of earthquakes have to achieve by probabilistic evaluation because of uncertainty of earthquake. Fragility analysis is a useful tool for predicting the probability of damage induced by the probable earthquake. This paper presents the probability of damage as a function of peak ground acceleration and estimates the probability of five damage levels for the pier of prestressed concrete (PSC) bridge subjected to given ground acceleration. At each 100 artificial earthquake motions were generated in terms of soil conditions, and nonlinear time domain analyses were performed for the damage states of the pier of PSC bridge structures. These damage states are described by displacement ductility result from seismic performance based on existing research results. Using the damage states and ground motion parameters, five fragility curves for the pier of PSC bridges with five types of dominant frequencies were constructed assuming a log-nomal distribution. It was found that there was a significant effect on the fragility curves due to the dominant frequencies.
