Connections between the Subjective Awareness Characteristics of Oral Health of Certain Adults and Their Oral Health Knowledge and Practice Behavior of Oral Health (일부 성인의 주관적 구강건강 인지 특성과 구강보건 지식 및 구강보건 실천 행태의 연관성 연구)

  • Under the goal of examining the subjective awareness characteristics of oral health and identifying major factors influencing the oral health knowledge and practice behavior of oral health, this study collected and analyzed questionnaires from 763 adults in certain areas from June 23, 2011 to March 24, 2012 and obtained the following conclusions: 1. As for oral health knowledge according to general characteristics, there was statistical significance(p<0.001) according to gender, educational background, and vocation. 2. As for the practice behavior of oral health according to general characteristics, there was statistical significant(p<0.001) according to gender, age, educational background, vocation, and income. 3. As for the Oral health knowledge and the practice behavior of oral health according to awareness characteristics of oral health, there was statistical significant(p<0.001) according to the importance of oral health, subjective health state and interest in oral health(p<0.001). 4. According to the regression analysis results of the factors related to oral health knowledge and practice behavior of oral health, there was statistical significance(p<0.001) in interest in oral health and had connection. Based on those findings, it is imperative to fully consider the general characteristics and subjective awareness characteristics of oral health of individuals when developing an educational program for oral health and investigating and conducting educational methods for oral health in order to improve the practice of oral health for practically better oral health of the nation.

Effect of Oral Health Education Practice and Self-efficacy of Teacher on Oral Health Attitude (교사의 구강보건교육 실천과 자기효능감이 구강보건교육 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of oral health education practice and schoolteacher's self-efficacy on oral health attitude. The data of 217 dental hygienists was subjected to path analysis using AMOS 16.0. Oral health knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy and oral health education practice of schoolteacher were measurement variables of three path models. The goodness of fitness of Knowledge-Attitude-Practice model and Knowledge-Attitude-Self efficacy -Practice model were acceptable. The regression weights of two models were statistically significant. Oral health education practice of schoolteacher gave impact on oral health attitude by mediation of self-efficacy of schoolteacher. Self-efficacy of schoolteacher was a important determinant of oral health education practice. Oral health attitude and practice were supposed to be mutual determinants of health behavior models.

  • This study aims to measure the oral health literacy of foreign women and to find out the association between oral health knowledge, oral health behavior and oral health literacy. The subjects of the study were surveyed by 248 foreign women in some areas of Gyeongbuk from June 2018 to September 2018. The results of the study showed that the verbal oral health literacy was significantly different in age, education level, and korean residence period, and functional oral health literacy in marriage, education level, and length of residence in korea. In order to promote oral health literacy of foreign women, an effective oral health program has been developed to change oral health knowledge and oral health behavior

  • This study was conducted to examine the influence of the experience of childcare teachers about oral health education on oral health knowledge. Questionnaires to be self-filled up on the experience of oral health education were applied to 267 childcare teachers who are working in a nursery schools in Kyoungnam province. The data were analysed using the SPSS 12.0 program. The obtained result were as follows: The oral health knowledge was higher in the case with oral health education than without it. A public health center would provide the highest oral health knowledge to nursery teachers. The educations about peridontal disease, oral health effect of fluorine and Xylitol were the most demanding among the some items. When the education topics are related with peridontal disease and Xylitol, the most respondents are willing to participate in the education course. The high correlation (r=0.874) was shown in the necessity of the education and the necessity of attending the course. Also there was a low correlation (r=0.345) between the knowledge items of peridontal disease and the participation in the oral health education. The relationship of oral health knowledge with experience and recognizance of oral health education appeared. Therefore systematic and regular program for the oral health education would be required.

  • This study was to examine relation of oral health knowledge and oral health behavior, targeting university students who major in health-related majors 198 students and health-unrelated majors 203 students. Oral health behavior by general characteristics appears most highest junior and senior sophomore, health-related major, regular dental check-up, dental education experience. 'It is effective in preventing bad breath brushing the tongue when brushing' of oral health knowledge reached 94.5% most highest. The health-related is high 'fluoride helps to prevent cavities.' 'Brushing tongue' of oral health behavior is most highest average 4.20. The health-related is high 'I know the brushing method that's right for me, and enforcement' and 'I am regular scaling for periodontal disease prevention'. To identify influence that general characteristics and oral health knowledge to oral health behavior, regression analysis result Y(oral health behavior)=2.692+0.377(regular dental check-up)+0.145(rental education experience)+ 0.215(method of oral health education)+0.045(oral health knowledge) was come out. Therefore, university students need to improve their oral health, structuring environment where information about oral health is reached out easily.

  • This study was carried out in order to identify oral health knowledge according to police officers' oral health behaviors. The questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 237 police officers in Gwangju. A tool used general characteristics, oral health knowledge, oral health behavior and oral health education needs. The analysis was processed with descriptive statistics, t-test, Anova and regression analysis. As a result, the oral health knowledge was high in a person of using oral hygiene products and in a person of experiencing a visit to dental clinic(p<0.001). The desired the oral health education were a specialist's direct verbal explanation and the correct tooth-brushing method. Also, marital status, educational level, smoking status, using oral hygiene products and Dental visit experience were identified to have influence upon a oral health knowledge (explanatory power, 40.5%). Hence, the results of this study will be able to be applied to basic data in case of developing an oral health education program and planning a dental health project for enhancing oral health in police officers.

The Effect of an Oral Health Program by B School Dental Clinic in Anyang City (안양시 B초등학교 학교구강보건실 운영사업이 학생구강건강에 미치는 효과)

  • This study evaluated the effect of an school-based oral health program supplied to primary school children in Anyang city. This program included oral health education, pit and fissure sealing, fluoride mouth rinsing and professional tooth brushing. The numbers of the subjects were 311 children in the program participant group and 165 children in the control group which were not in the program. Data were analyzed with t-test, one way ANOVA and pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. In attitude, behavior of oral hygiene, participant group was better than the control group. In case of the perceived oral health, satisfaction of oral health, need oral treatment there was no significant difference between the two groups. These results suggest that school children can learn the good attitude and behaviors and oral health promotion can be achived from the oral health program run by shool dental clinic.

  • This study aims to measure oral health knowledge and practice level among dental clinic patients, and examine their relationships with decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMF) index and the oral health-related quality of life (QOL). Empirical data have been collected from 311 patients through structured questionnaires and dental examinations conducted in Busan area. According to the analysis of causal relationship, oral health knowledge turned out to have a direct effect on oral health practices, which exerted both direct and indirect effects on DMF index and oral health-related QOL. While DMF index directly affected the oral health-related QOL, oral health knowledge proved to have only an indirect effect on DMF index and oral health-related QOL, mediated by oral health practices. Considering all these findings, effective oral health education and other intervention programs should focus on motivating people to participate in the active practices of desirable oral health behaviors, which will lead to the prevention of oral diseases and the subsequent improvement in the QOL.

Comparison of Oral Health Knowledge and Attitude of Students Who Had Experienced School Dental Clinic Program (학교구강보건실 운영·비운영 학교 학생들의 구강보건지식과 행동 비교)

  • This study was conducted to investigate of effects of school dental clinic program by evaluating the oral health knowledge and the attitude subjected on the students who had experienced the program in Gimhae and Yangsan city. The subjects were a total of 780 students from 6 elementary dental clinics in Gimhae and Yangsan city from July 5 to 23, 2013. The average oral health knowledge level of students with operating program was 3.36 points, the average oral health knowledge level of students with non-operating program was 2.94 points, the average oral health knowledge level with operating school was higher than non-operating school (p<0.001). The more four times tooth brushing per day with operating school was 37.2%, the three times tooth brushing per day with non-operating school was 34.6%. The oral health knowledge level of students with operating school (odds ratio [OR]=1.58, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.35~1.85) were significantly higher compared to non-operating school, but the number of tooth brushing times per day (OR=1.06, 95% CI=0.93~1.21) was not significant. There is a clear difference of oral health knowledge and attitude depend on whether the school dental clinic operating or not, because it has a positive effect on the attitude and knowledge for health prevention of students, it will be able to enhance the oral health promotion of the students through the program.

Comparative Study of the Students' Oral Health Knowledge and Behavior between the Elementary Schools With or Without Dental Clinic (울산시 학교구강보건실 운영학교와 비운영학교 학생의 구강보건지식 및 행동 비교연구)

  • This study surveyed on a comparative study of the students' oral health knowledge and behavior between the elementary schools with(528) or without dental clinic(442) in Ulsan. Sang Jin had 11.6% students from single parent or parentless families, revealing a much higher percentage than that of Mun Hyeon 3.6%. The findings showed on oral health care the score of activities of students in Sang Jin about 'always brushing one's teeth after having snacks' 'having seen a dentist and gotten regular dental checkups' and 'having a lot of concern for one's oral health' was much higher than that of Mun Hyeon. Sang Jin earned statistically higher marks for having better oral health knowledge that 'Chocolate, cookies and candy easily cause decayed teeth', 'Fruit, milk and vegetables cleanse the teeth', 'Brushing teeth can be replaced with chewing gum after meals', and 'Brushing teeth in left & right is the best way to cleanse'. As the knowledge of oral health care differed depending on the graders 4th, 5th, 6th in Sang Jin, the higher their grade was in.
