Implementation of Location-Based Traffic Information Service System (위치기반 교통정보 서비스 시스템 구현)

  • This paper suggested a location-based traffic information service system using TPEG and GIS. Measurement technique, location server, applied service technique, and linkage technique with database were used to provide the location-based traffic information service. In particular, TPEG-RTM includes location information and load traffic message. The location information to be included in each message displayed a specific point, section or region limit of the load. Actually, because it was impossible to receive data using TPEG receiver, a proposed program included in this paper was used to produce an arbitrary database and read it, Also, TPEG event happened time was indicated on the map for matching test of a TPEG message and WGS84 coordinate, and finally it was verified with art example of a vehicle approaching to an event happened place.

  • 최근 저전력의 무선통신과 적응형 자가조직(Self-organization)능력을 가진 초소형 마이크로센서의 하드웨어 기술 발전으로 다양한 기능의 센서를 이용한 무선 센서 네트워크의 구축이 가능하게 되었다. 무선 센서 네트워크는 현실세계의 여러 이벤트를 감지하는 센싱 작업을 기반으로 주로 과학용이나 군사용으로 많이 사용되고있다. 즉, 직접 접근이 용이하지 않은 전장에서의 적군감시, 열악한 환경을 모니터링 하는 지진감지, 교통의 감시와 제어를 위한 지능형 교통통제, 장기간의 관찰이 요구되는 생태감시 등 그 응용범위가 다양하게 확장되고 있다.   • Advanced wireless network and sensor technologies are capable of collecting information such as temperature, humidity, weight, and location about objects at real time in logistics area. Besides, users want to be notified of contextual information about interest of objects whenever they want it and wherever they want it. To satisfy these requirements, applications should collect and analyze contextual information at real time, and must support a service that can notify it to wanted users. Event-based service is one of the way to satisfy these requirement of users. In this paper, we design an event notification system focused on location- and RFID-based logistics area. To do this, we present XML-based event expression model, ECA-based profile definition model, and an algorithm that has high scalability by distinguishing event filtering in two steps. Based on these designs, our implemented system can apply to not only logistics area but also intelligent traffic control system based on RFID or GPS devices.

  • Traffic management centers (TMC) collect real-time traffic data from the field and have powerful databases for analysing, recording, and archiving the data. Recent advanced sensor and communication technologies have been widely applied to intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Regarding sensors, various in-vehicle sensors, in addition to global positioning system (GPS) receiver, are capable of providing high resolution data representing vehicle maneuverings. Regarding communication technologies, advanced wireless communication technologies including vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-vehicle infrastructure (V2I), which are generally referred to as V2X, have been widely used for traffic information and operations (references). The V2X environment considers the transportation system as a network in which each element, such as the vehicles, infrastructure, and drivers, communicates and reacts systematically to acquire information without any time and/or place restrictions. This study is motivated by needs of exploiting aforementioned cutting-edge technologies for developing smarter transportation services. The proposed system has been implemented in the field and discussed in this study. The proposed system is expected to be used effectively to support the development of various traffic information control strategies for the purpose of enhancing traffic safety on highways.

Analyses of Sustainability(TBL) of Marine Sport Events (해양스포츠이벤트의 지속가능성(TBL) 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of sustainability of marine sport events by types of events and thus to provide fundamental information that helps developing sustainable marine sport events. In order to accomplish such the purpose, this study employed survey methodology with a total of 285 visitors to marine sport events. Questionnaires were developed based on Tripple Bottom Line theory suggested by previous research and validated throughout a panel of experts to check out content validity. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA with Scheffe post hoc tests. Accordingly following findings were derived from current study. First, among 12 positive sustainability variables, marine space improvement had the highest mean score(M=3.82) but creation of jobs had the lowest mean score(M=3.46). Among 11 negative sustainability variables, traffic jab had the highest mean score(M=3.16) but conflict between participants and residents had the lowest mean score(M=2.73). Second, a festival typed marine sport event had the significantly high mean scores in all positive sustainability index including economic sustainability(M=3.79), social sustainability(M=3.84) and environmental sustainability(M=3.80). Third, a business typed marine sport event had the relatively higher mean scores in all negative sustainability index including economic sustainability(M=3.22), social sustainability(M=3.26) and environmental sustainability(M=3.25). In conclusion, these findings suggest that marine sport event organizers concentrate on marine sport event with more sustainability potentials.

  • 교통 상황 감시 시스템은 감시 카메라로 촬영된 영상을 입력으로 받아 도로 상의 자동차를 탐지, 추출, 추적 및 인식하고 그것으로부터 고급 수준의 정보 즉, 특정한 이벤트를 탐지하기 위한 목적으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 하지만 기존의 감시 시스템들은 불법주차나 교통 상황 분석과 같은 특정 목적만을 위해 설계되었기 때문에, 확장성이나 호환성이 고려되지 않고 설계 및 구현되었다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 기존 시스템의 문제를 해결하고 보다 효율적인 시스템의 설계를 위하여, 교통 상황 감시 시스템에 대한 총 5 계층의 미들웨어를 제안한다. 그리고 제안하는 미들웨어를 구성하기 위해서 총 45개의 인터페이스를 직접 구현하였고, 이를 통해 기존 시스템의 문제점인 확장성과 호환성을 해결하였다.

  • The objective of VMS(Variable Message Sign) is to provide the traffic information downstream to drivers upstream so that they can choose their routes or expect the travel time to arrive the destination. Because there is not enough time and space to show the message, VMS message should be selected carefully. However, the message of VMS has been simply selected among the pre-designed message sets based on the priority rule of events. If the traffic demand between origin and destination is identified along the freeway, message can be selected to provide the information of a route that more drivers will use. In this study, a time sliced OD(Origin/Destination) estimation method will be developed using the detector information of the on-ramp, exit ramp, and the main lanes. And the strategy of a priority rule of message was planned.

Short-term Traffic States Prediction Using k-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm: Focused on Urban Expressway in Seoul (k-NN 알고리즘을 활용한 단기 교통상황 예측: 서울시 도시고속도로 사례)

  • This study evaluates potential sources of errors in k-NN(k-nearest neighbor) algorithm such as procedures, variables, and input data. Previous research has been thoroughly reviewed for understanding fundamentals of k-NN algorithm that has been widely used for short-term traffic states prediction. The framework of this algorithm commonly includes historical data smoothing, pattern database, similarity measure, k-value, and prediction horizon. The outcomes of this study suggests that: i) historical data smoothing is recommended to reduce random noise of measured traffic data; ii) the historical database should contain traffic state information on both normal and event conditions; and iii) trial and error method can improve the prediction accuracy by better searching for the optimum input time series and k-value. The study results also demonstrates that predicted error increases with the duration of prediction horizon and rapidly changing traffic states.

  • The development of autopilot system and flight management system (FMS) equipment in today's aircraft navigation can be attributed to the reduction of pilots' workload and the navigation safety. The effect of autopilot and FMS equipment is greater, especially in heavy airport traffic or complicated of the departure. However, some airport specific departure procedures result in an uncommanded turn event due to an error in the FMS, causing aircraft to deviate from the center line of the route. With most departure procedures requiring area navigation (RNAV) operation, pilot situation awareness and corrective action are the only ways to minimize aircraft deviation to maintain the safety of area navigation. Through analysis of the occurrence status of the uncommended turn event by aircraft type, airport and flight phase, and comparative analysis of the survey results of foreign airlines and the airlines self-reduction plan with the aircraft manufacturer's corrective action, it is intended to give implications for the need for more fundamental measures to prevent recurrence of such events.

Development of an Evaluation Index for Identifying Freeway Traffic Safety Based on Integrating RWIS and VDS Data (기상 및 교통 자료를 이용한 교통류 안전성 판단 지표 개발)

  • This study proposes a novel performance measure, which is referred to as Hazardous Spacing Index (HSI), to be used for evaluating safety of traffic stream on freeways. The basic principle of the proposed methodology is to investigate whether drivers would have sufficient stopping sight distance (SSD) under limited visibility conditions to eliminate rear-end crash potentials at every time step. Both Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) and Vehicle Detection Systems (VDS) data were used to derive visibility distance (VD) and SSD, respectively. Moreover, the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) method was adopted to predict both VD and SSD in estimating predictive HSIs, which would be used to trigger advanced warning information to encourage safer driving. The outcome of this study is also expected to be used for monitoring freeway traffic stream in terms of safety.
