An Effects of Signal Phase Plan on the Traffic Signal Operation of 4-legged Intersection (신호현시 순서가 교차로 신호운영 효율에 미치는 영향 분석 분석)

  • This study analysis traffic phase order alternatives to maximize throughput. According to theoretical analysis alternative2(EW: left turn after through, NS: through after left turn) and alternative5(EW: through after left turn, NS: left turn after through) can minimize the maximum delay. Both alternatives split the phase that have the same destination link under the whole cycle length. This shows that phase order alternative can effect to the fully saturated intersection. In side of simulation analysis by microscopic traffic simulator PTV VISSIM F 7.0, each phase order alternatives can't effect throughput under the non saturated condition. However under the saturated condition, the average controlled delay of the intersection has been changed by phase order alternatives. The simulation analysis shows that alternative2 and alternative5 increase throughput 3.8% to 5.1% under the saturated condition.

  • In the Signalized Intersection, the capacity analysis is conducted with a large amount of input data such as road way, traffic and signal condition. but the level of service(LOS) is determined by delay estimated as a measure of effectiveness (MOE) based on this procedure. However, It is under the circumstances which are not considered for the errors caused by the uncertainty of input data in the field(the turing volumes, lane geometry, signal timing, grade of approach lane, percentage heavy vehicles, peak hour factor and arrival type etc.) as become the bases in the determination of the capacity and LOS. It includes the problem of reliability which is not verified for the capacity and LOS estimated. So, this study is to suggest the minimization of their influences by examining whether the uncertainty of input data such as the traffic volume, percentage of heavy vehicles and roadway geometry on the approach lane in the intersection under the study affects the capacity analysis and LOS determination.

Analyses of Capacity and Lest-Turn Adjustment Factors for Permitted Left-Turn (비보호좌회전 보정계수 및 용량 분석)

  • 신호교차로에서의 효율적인 교통운영을 위해서는 비보호좌회전의 활성화가 필요하며 이를 위해서는 비보호좌회전이 허용되는 신호교차로에서의 교통운영의 정확한 분석이 가능해야한다. 본연구에서는 국내신호교차로에서의 운전자의 행태에 기초하여 USHCM의 비보호 좌회전 분석에서 요구되는 $g_f$, $g_q$, $P_L$, 의 현실적인 값을 산정하기 위한 모형이 제안되었으며 이에 기초하여 비보호좌회전 보정계수 및 용량분석 기법을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공용차로를 가진 비보호좌회전 신호교차로에서 주기당 좌회전교통량(LTC)이 5대까지의 범위에서 G(녹색신호시간)와 LTC를 변수로 한 $g_f$모형이 개발되었다. 둘째, $v_{olc}$$qr_o$를 변수로 한 $g_q$모형이 개발되었으며 제안된 모형에 의한 $g_q$값이 진주 및 광주에서의 현장관측치와 거의 일치함을 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 1994 USHCM의 $P_L$모형이 LTC가 증가할수록 $P_L$값이 감소하는 비현실적인 모형의 구조를 가지므로 현실적인 모형의 구축을 위해 국내 현장자료에 기초하여 LTC를 변수로하여 $P_L$산정을 위한 단순화된 모형이 개발되었다. 넷째, 대향교통류를 통해 좌회전할 수 있는 유효녹색시간의 부분의 $g_u$를 산정하여 비보호좌회전 포화교통류율($S_{LT}$)에 주기 대 $g_u$의 비를 곱한 비보호좌회전 용량산정식이 제안되었다.

An Analysis of Saturation Headway at Signalized Intersections by Using Fuzzy Inference (퍼지추론을 이용한 신호교차로에서의 포화차두시간 분석)

  • 신호 교차로에서 포화차두시간에 영향을 미치는 영향인자는 도로조건, 교통조건, 환경조건으로 분류된다. 이러한 요인들의 복합적인 관계가 포화차두시간에 영향을 미친다. 현재 포화교통류율은 이상적인 조건일 때의 포화차두시간을 산출하고, 이를 이용해서 기본 포화교통류율을 구하고, 여기에 좌 우회전, 차로폭, 경사, 중차량 보정계수을 고려함으로써 특정 차로군의 포화교통류율을 산정하고 있다. 포화차두시간에 영향을 미치는 인자들 중에서 정량적으로 나타내기 어려운 인자 즉, 퍼지적 성격을 가진 인자들은 고려하지 않고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 퍼지 근사추론 방법을 이용하여 정성적 인자의 영향을 고려한 모형을 구축하였다. 모형의 입력자료는 강우조건과 주변밝기의 정도, 중차량 구성비의 언어적 표현를 사용하였다. 이러한 변수들에 대하여 설문조사를 통해서 퍼지집합의 멤버쉽함수를 설정하였으며. 이에 기초하여 교차로에서 각 조건별로 포화차두시간을 관측하였다. 이러한 현장 관측치를 바탕으로 퍼지 제어규칙을 설정하고 모형을 구축하였다. 모형의 평가는 추론치와 실측치를 비교함으로써 이루어 졌으며, 결정계수인 $R^2$와 평균절대오차(MAE)와 평균제곱오차(MSE)를 사용하여 분석한 결과 본 모형의 설명력이 높은 것으로 평가되었다. 본 연구의 과정에서 강우에 의한 교통용량 감소는 중차량 구성비가 클수록 주변밝기의 정도가 나쁠수록 더욱 큰 것으로 나타났으며 그 감소율은 5.3%에서 21.8%에 이르는 넓은 범위의 값을 보였고. 주변밝기 정도에 따른 교통용량 감소는 4.7$\sim$7.5% 수준으로 나타났다.

A study on Left turn Capacity by Bay Length (Bay길이에 따른 좌회전 용량산정에 관한 연구)

  • The primary objective of this study is to develop a reliable method for estimating the left turn capacity at the signalized intersection. This study is performed during periods of congestion. Multi left turn lane(bay lane and exclusive lane) approaches are examined. When more than one left turn lane exists, traffic volumes are not distributed equally over each lane. The fundamental approach taken in this study is measuring headways on left turn lanes with altering the bay length from 20m to 120m. Left turn lane is divided into 3 sub-sections in this study. These are SLP section(start-up lost time Period), SFP section(saturation flow period), LSP section(lane selection period). Saturation flow rates are evaluated for each sub section periods. As a results of analysis, it has been confirmed that the left turn capacity can be estimated by left turn bay length and effective green time for left turn. The left turn bay length adjustment factor is suggested in this study.

Estimation of Lane Utilization Adjustment Factors for Signalized Intersections Adjacent to an Off-ramp-Street Junction (연결로-일반도로 합류부와 인접한 신호교차로의 차로이용률 계수 산출)

  • This paper investigated the influences of ramp traffic flow on the lane utilization for signalized intersection approaches which are adjacent to an off-ramp-street junction. The statistical test showed a correlation between lane utilization and the ramp traffic flow. As the ramp traffic flow increases, the left lanes are less utilized and the right lanes are more utilized. The lane utilization factors are calculated by applying traffic data collected from the Seoul Metropolitan area. The utilization factors are 1.113 for 2 lanes, 1.124 for 3 lanes, and 1.131 for 4 lanes. The lane utilization factors proposed in the paper show higher values than those in current Korea Highway Capacity Manual (KHCM) under the conditions that the number of lanes is 2 or 3. However, the lane utilization factor for 4 lanes in the paper shows lower value than in KHCM. The ramp traffic flow causes more utilization of the right lanes than at normal signalized intersections and the extent gets larger as the number of lanes decreases. Based on the results of the paper, the lane utilization factors at signalized intersection approaches should be revised and reasonable capacity should be recalculated if the signalized intersection is adjacent to an off-ramp-street junction.

Signal Optimization for Oversaturated Arterials (과포화 간선도로의 신호 최적화)

  • 일반적으로 교통수요가 용량보다 적으면 모든 교통량이 지체없이 신호교차로를 통 과 할 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 비포화 상태에서는 어떻게 Delay나 Stop을 최소화시키느냐가 신호처리의 목적함수가 될 것이다. 그러나 교통수요가 용량보다 많아지면 신호교차로가 모 든 교통량을 통과시키지 못하므로 시간이 갈수록 대기 행렬이 점점 길어질 것이다. 이러한 과포화상태에서는 늘어나는 대기 행렬을 조절하지 못하면 결국에는 Spillback이 상류 교차 로로 확대되어 최악에는 교차로에서의 모든 방향의 움직임을 정지시키는 Gridlock상태로까 지 악화 될 수 있다. 따라서 과포화 상태에서는 비포화 상태와는 달리 늘어나는 대기행렬을 조절하여 통과 교통량을 최대화 시키는 것이 신호처리의 목적 함수가 될 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 과포화시의 간선도로를 신호처리에 의해 일정한 대기행렬을 유지하므로써 시 스템을 최적화 하는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. IMPOST(Internal Metering Policy to Optimize Signal Timing)는 논문에서 개발한 알고리즘을 C언어로 프로그래밍한 model이다.

Signal Optimization Model Reflecting Alternative Use of Lanes for Left/Through Traffic at A Signalized Intersection (차로공동이용화를 위한 신호최적화모형 개발 연구)

  • Signal optimization model for alternative use of lanes at a signalized intersection with an stop-line added backward was presented in this paper. The simulation results shot-ed that the traffic fed from the stop-line passed the intersection in each specified phasing interval for left and through traffic. The experimental results indicated that the proposed model was much superior to traditional signal optimization methodology in reducing delay, fuel consumption, and disutility index for delay and stops. The effects for reducing delay were greater than those for doing fuel consumption and disutility index due to the added stop-line. The proposed model is expected to alleviate traffic congestion at intersections, both which have no left turn pocket, and which have large left turn volume. The model is recommended to adapted for intersections spaced long among them with no near driveway.

  • Roundabout has circular traffic island in the intersection center and is kind of intersection where the automobile bypass circular traffic island. In Korea, the provisional Roundabouts Design Guidelines were published in 2004 by MLTM (Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs). This guideline did not discussed domestic traffic circumstance. It just only introduced foreign instances and their guidelines. In addition, the recent National Competitiveness roundabouts as part of the green growth has been concentrated on the interest. In this paper, 90 degree of the 4-legged roundabout was compared with 72 degree, 45 degree, and 30 degree 5-legged roundabouts by micro simulation VISSIM. As a result of analysis, average travel time is decreased when the inscribed circle diameter become bigger the roundabout. 5-legged roundabout until 2,000 volume per hour evaluated to be similar effect at 90 degree of 4-legged roundabout.

A Study of Roundabout Operation According to the Pedestrian Volume (보행량에 따른 도시부 회전교차로 운영에 관한 연구)

  • Roundabouts, which belong to traffic circles, are intersections which are similar to the existing rotary form. Roundabouts recently have been constructed all around the world. And interests in roundabouts are increasing in Korea. However, there are lacks of research on pedestrian volume which has a great influence on operation efficiency of roundabouts in urban area. Therefore, this study suggests efficiency analysis and pedestrian signals in roundabouts according to the pedestrian volume. First, VISSIM simulation was organized to analyse volume of one lane roundabouts in urban area. Second, average delay of intersections was calibrated by VISSIM simulation dividing signalized intersections and non-signalized intersections depending on pedestrian volume. Finally, this study showed that roundabouts are suitable when pedestrian volume was under 200person/hr and traffic circles with a pelican signal are suitable when pedestrian volume was over 200person/hr. And when pedestrian volume and traffic volume are over 600person/hr and 1,500vph respectively, fixed signalized intersections fit well.
