A Study on the Current Status of STEAM Education (우리나라 초·중·고등학교의 STEAM 교육 운영 현황 실태조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in schools by asking a variety of questions including "why and how often they implement STEAM education." This study conducted an online survey on 11,526 elementary, middle, and high schools in South Korea, with the response rate being 56.8% (N = 6,473). To highlight key findings, first, our descriptive analyses suggested that if those that did not respond to the survey were assumed not to have implemented STEAM education, approximately 27.1% (N = 3,127) of all schools in South Korea were believed to have implemented STEAM at best. The highest rate of implementation of STEAM education was found in elementary schools (30.8%), followed by middle (27.4%) and high (17.5%) schools. Second, in contrast with the result for the rate of implementation of STEAM education, high schools showed the highest level of satisfaction. Third, the most important reason for implementing STEAM education within a school was found to be teachers' voluntary efforts or intrinsic motives, followed by support from the provincial office of education. Fourth, the most important reason for not implementing STEAM education was found to be the lack of consensus among teachers. Together, findings highlight the importance of the role of teachers in implementing STEAM education. Offered are policy implications for the better implementation of STEAM education.

Analysis of Status and Trend in Software Education : Focused on Educational Technology Survey(2014 - 2016) (초·중등 SW 교육 현황 및 추이 분석 : 교육정보화 실태조사(2014-2016)을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze objectively the current state of preparation of SW education in Korea based on the survey of educational technology of elementary and secondary school which is investigated periodically every year. For this purpose, we extracted indicators related to SW education from educational technology level indicators such as human, material, and utilization and analyzed the change in the level of domestic educational technology level from 2014 to 2016. The main results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the ratio of teachers who have informatics teacher certificates among middle school informatics teacher is continuously decreasing from 2014(71%) to 2016(54%), and the number of information and the number of informatics teachers moving from informatics subject to other subjects is steadily increasing. On the other hand, there is a paradoxical situation in which the total number of teachers in informatics subject is continuously increasing for three years. Secondly, the total amount of ICT related budgets for elementary and secondary schools has been steadily decreasing since 2014. Thirdly, The ratio of informatics(computer) related creative activities in elementary schools dropped to 87.7% in 2015 and 84.6% in 2016. Also, the ratio of informatics subject operating school in middle school is gradually decreasing from 34.8% in 2014, 30.8% in 2015, and 28.2% in 2016. Based on the results of this analysis, this study suggested a method for stable settlement of SW education in elementary and secondary public education field.

  • 21세기를 바로 앞두고, 우리 나라 수학 교육의 과거와 현재의 실태, 즉 수학교육의 목적, 교수 내용, 교수 방법, 평가 등을 철학적 관점과 심리학적 관점에서 역사적으로 재조명해 보는 것은 새로운 2000년대를 앞두고 의미 있는 일이 될 수 있다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 21세기에 우리 나라 수학 교육이 나아가야 할 방향을 세계적인 추세와 관련하여 제시해 보고자 한다.

  • In this paper, local industry target by analyzing the actual state of engineering education-oriented, demand for engineering education to come up with ways to improve. To this end, training human resources training program in engineering education practice Caps-tone design, Cooperative system, contract-type as the main theme of human resources in the southwestern industrial target academic staff investigate the actual conditions were run cooperative education programs. Survey, southwestern regional industry operating experience, most industry-university cooperative education program that was unsatisfactory. In addition, promoting Cooperative system experience in the industry will promote the future looked reservation position, while the Caps-tone design is somewhat academic partners participating a majority opinion education program run by the model will be developing. Regional strategy based on future demand for industry-oriented engineering education program for running is to come up with ways improvements.

A Study on Current Status of English Education for Toddlers and Influential Variables upon Mothers' Demand (영아영어교육 실태 및 영아어머니의 영아영어교육 요구에의 영향 변인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of English education for toddlers at home and institutes, and influential variables upon mothers' demand on English education for their toddlers. Four hundred forty-one mothers who have toddlers under 36 months-old were surveyed using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency and logistic regression. Results of this study were as follows: It was found that 30.9% of mothers were providing English education to their toddlers. They started English education when their toddlers were between 24 months and 36 months because of parents' decision or English education in child care centers. English education was mostly given to their toddlers once or twice a week, less than 30 minutes a time with Korean teachers who majored in English. English lessons were focused on simple dialogue using multi media, worksheets, and workbooks. In other sense, 66.0% of mothers showed a positive perspective toward English education for toddlers. The higher salary, years of education, and degree of agreement on English education based on physiological, linguistic, and social perspectives were, the stronger the demand on English education was. Results of this study suggested that appropriate guidance for English education for toddlers needs to be provided.

  • 현재 초등 학교의 ICT 활용 교육을 위한 교육 환경과 교수 학습 자료는 일반 학급을 대상으로 한 것이 대부분을 차지하고 있기 때문에 초등 특수 학급 교사들이 ICT를 활용해서 장애 아동들을 가르치는데 큰 어려움을 겪고 있다. 그러나 초등 특수학급을 담당하는 교사와 장애 아동을 위한 ICT 활용 교육 환경과 교수 학습 자료에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 초등 특수학급 담당 교사와 학생들에게 적절한 ICT 교육 환경과 교수 학습 자료의 개발을 위해 초등 특수학급 교사들의 ICT 교수 학습 자료 활용 실태를 분석 한다.

  • 본 조사는 1980년 10월부터 11월까지 전국 52개 간호교육기관의 교육실태를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 전국 간호교육기관 수는 총 52개교로 대학과정 15개교, 전문대학과정 37개교이며, 설립별로 보면, 국립 9개교, 공립 16개교, 사립 27개교이다. 2. 전국 간호교육기관 51개교 1980년도 재학생은 대학과정 2,630명으로 25.5$\%$, 전문대학과정 7,664명으로 74.5$\%$로 총 10,294명이다. 3. 1980년 11월 현재 5개교에 남학생이 재학하고 있으며, 총 남학생 수는 38명이다. 4. 1980년도 졸업생은 대학과정 711명, 전문대학과정 2,610명으로 총 3,321명이며, 11월 현재 취업률은 85.5$\%$, 미취업율은 14.5$\%$이다. 5. 졸업생의 취업분야는 임상분야에 82.2$\%$, 보건분야에 8.8$\%$, 교육분야에 6.5$\%$, 기타 2.1$\%$를 나타내고 있다.

  • 본 조사는 1981년 6월부터 7월까지 전국 50개 간호교육기관의 교육실태를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 전국 간호교육기관 수는 총 51개교로 대학 과정 15개교, 전문대학과정 36개교이다. 2. 간호교육기관 기관장의 전공분야는 간호학 전공자가 $42.0{\%}$, 비간호학 전공자, $58.0{\%}$이다. 3. 1981년도 재학생은 11.574명으로 대학과정 2,843명, 전문대학과정 8.731명이고, 남학생이 7개교에 재학하고 있으며, 총 남학생은 45명이다. 4. 1981년도 총 졸업생 수는 3,278명으로 대학과정 19.8%, 전문대학과정 $80.2{\%}$이다. 5. 1981년도 졸업생의 취업율은 $74.9{\%}$, 미취업율은 $25.1{\%}$이며, 취업분야는 임상분야에 $82.4{\%}$, 보건분야에 $7.2{\%}$, 교육분야에 $7.5{\%}$, 기타$2.9{\%}$이다. 6. 전국 간호교육자는 662명이고 1979년 9월부터 1981년 3월까지 출판된 저서는 96권, 논문은 503편이다.

Curriculum and Implementation of 'Invention Classroom' in Seoul Area (서울지역 발명교실의 교육과정 분석 및 운영 실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest the basement in making definite curriculum through the analysis of the curriculum and implementation of Invention Classroom in Seoul area and findings of the problems perceived by the teachers. This study analyzed the curriculums of 19 'invention classrooms' in Seoul area, asked the teachers about the problems and things to need improving through interviews and the results are following. First, it is necessary to make the more definite curriculum because there is a little big gap between the regions and the teachers in running the 'Invention Classrooms'. Second, it is necessary to narrow the gaps through the definite curriculum because the purposes, contents, teaching methods and evaluation tools perceived most importantly or emphasized most by the teachers were so different from the real suggestion in the curriculums. Third, it is necessary to suggest the definite guideline in order to overcome the regional gaps because there are a little big gap of implementation between the classes in planning teaching periods, credits needed and so on. Fourth, the teachers have perceived many problems in educational, administrational and financial aspect and so it is necessary to properly reflect them on planning the curriculum of Invention Classroom through many proper studies to improve them.

A Comparative Study on Calculator in Mathematics Educations Between Korea and Singapore (수학 수업 중 계산기 사용에 대한 한국과 싱가포르의 교육 비교)

  • Debates of calculators in mathematics lessons sometimes have happened in both countries that students rarely use calculators in math lessons including Republic of Korea and countries that students usually use calculators in math lessons. Korea has tried to activate usage of calculators in math lessons as the revision of national math curriculums and the development the strategies to support schools and math teachers. On the other hand, Singapore has the different educational strategies to use calculators in math lessons, but students have higher math achievements in TIMSS and interests in math lessons than Korea. This study intended to study the difference between Korea and Singapore on the usage of calculators in math lessons. To accomplish this, the study compared math curriculums of two countries on the usage of calculators and analysed TIMSS 2015 related with the survey items about calculators in math lessons. This study results in some suggestions that we should do in oder to use calculators in math lessons effectively.
