  • The appearnace of web technology has accelerated the development of the multimedia technology, the computer communication technology and the multimedia application contents. Researches on WBI(Web-based Instruction) system have combined the technology of the digital library and LOD,. REcently WBI(Web-based Instruction) model which is based on web has been proposed in the part of the new activity model of teaching-learning. As the demand of the customized coursewares from the lwarners is increased, the needs of the efficient and automated education agents in the web-based instruction are recognized. In this paper we propose a system monitors learner's behaviors constantly, evaluates them, and calculates his accomplishment. And the system offers suitable course to learner applying this accomplishment degree to agent's schedules. Therefore, the learner achieves an active and complete learning from the repeated and suitable course semantic-based retrieval.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze changes in gender differences of Korean students in PISA mathematics assessment and investigate possible factors influencing the decrease of gender gap in mathematics performances. According to the results of PISA mathematics assessment, Korea showed significant large gender differences in mathematics achievement in both 2000 and 2003. The gender gap in favor of boys, however, has decreased since 2006. An interesting point from these results is that Korean girls' significant improvement led to the decrease in gender difference in 2006 and 2009 assessment. Based on a review of literature on gender differences in mathematics, possible explanations for the girls' improvement in mathematics achievements are identified as follows: the Korean government policy to encourage and support girls' study in mathematics and science and supportive environments could influence positively girls' attitudes toward mathematics and their mathematics learning; the changes in the mathematics curriculum and textbooks which emphasize similar characteristics to PISA mathematics assessment could affect the girls' improvement by reducing their unfamiliarity with PISA mathematics assessment items.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse students' achievement of 'Earth Science' in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study-Repeat(TIMSS-R), which was performed in 1999 with 38 nations participating. Korean 8th grade students' achievement of 'Earth Science' was compared with those of other countries and other content areas in science. Average percent correct of items in each subcategory was also analysed. Most of the 'Earth Science' topics were included in the intended curricula of Korea; they were taught to most of the students in science classes. Korean students ' average scale score of 'Earth Science' was significantly higher than the international average, but in comparison with other science content areas, achievement of 'Earth Science' was relatively low. The teachers' confidence in teaching earth science was lower than their confidence in teaching other science areas. The paper presents the results of item analysis and their implications for science education.

  • Recently, the number of multicultural families has significantly increased in Korea, and this trend creates a need to understand how successfully students from multicultural families achieve their mathematics learning. To understand and predict the changes in mathematics learning achievement of these students over time, we conducted in this study a latent growth mixture model analysis. The study findings show that the majority (92%) of the students from multicultural families experience a decrease in their mathematics achievement over time as their grade level goes up. It was found, in particular, that female students are likely to have lower initial achievements and rapid decline over time more than male students and that the decline over time was more severe for female students than their male counterparts. The findings of this study convey several implications on the how to support the students from multicultural families. First, the result of this study was different from the outcomes of previous studies that presented the income of the household and the education level of the students' parents as major factors that determine the academic achievement of the students from multicultural families. Furthermore, the study indicates the need for more research to identify variables related to the mathematical achievements of the students from multicultural families and the need to use these research findings to develop public support plans for the students from multicultural families.

  • In university liberal arts education, learners' achievement goals are an important research topic, and this also applies to liberal arts software education. In this paper, we analyzed changes in learning motivation of learners taking liberal arts software courses according to course classification using a 3 × 2 achievement goal model. The analysis was conducted on a discussion-oriented class taken together by learners receiving credits for different purposes, such as required and elective. As a result, it was confirmed that learners begin the semester with similar achievement goals. However, the avoidance goals of learners taking elective courses decreased, showing a significant difference at the end of the semester. It was a different result from the existing liberal arts software education studies that pointed to mandatory enrollment as the cause of lack of motivation to learn. In addition, it was confirmed that learners who take elective courses relatively focus on achievement rather than competition.

  • In this study, achievement emotions were compared between the gifted and regular students. The significant differences for each group were shown in all eight elements respectively in lesson situation, learning situation and test situation. Among various achievement emotions, it was also found that the gifted students showed higher level of positive achiecement emotions. Furthermore, positive achievement emotions can have positive effects in increasing the achievement level in science subject. On the other hand, the negative achievement emotions were higher for ordinary students that could have negative effets. The influential factors were recognizing the values of Science, Science experiments, positive evaluation experiences, aggressive learning attitudes, interests and knowledge, positive self-perceptions, career relationships, and teachers' recognitions. These factors influenced in imcreasing students' positive achievement emotions and decreasing negative achievement emotions. By conducting in-depth advanced conversations with students based on the above results could increase students' interest and positive achievement emotions.

  • This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the forest experience center for children led by the local community as experiential management for forest kindergarten education. For this, an importance and performance analysis was conducted on the forest experience center for children in Geumcheon-gu, which, of the 12 forest experience center for kids in Seoul, is the only one led by the local community. The questionnaire sheet for the analysis consisted of a total of 36 questions, 20 about place facility areas and 16 about management program areas(including 6 questions about the management led by the local community). The questionnaire survey was done during the period between January 12th and January 19th, 2015. The participants in the survey consisted of 15 forest education specialists and 50 teachers from 19 kindergartens who participated in the forest experience program. The number of questionnaire sheets collected and used for analysis was 13 copies and 43 copies, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance on the place facility areas were 4.07 and 3.78 for forest education specialists, and 4.16 and 3.84 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance regarding the management program area were 4.38 and 4.16 for forest education specialists, and 4.40 and 4.00 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. Both groups evaluated the place facility areas lower than the management program areas. They also evaluated performance lower than importance. In place facility area, 'accessibility', 'safety' and 'connectivity to forest trail', 'loose parts' and 'safety facilities' were required to 'keep up the good work', because they showed higher importance and performance in place facility areas. Even though most items of management as led by the local community including 'forest experience activity support' were evaluated as 'important', some, including 'effort for local revitalization', were evaluated as low in performance. However, as they were evaluated as higher in importance, if they pursue 'concentrate here', it is expected that they will be evaluated as higher in performance. In addition, considering that program areas including 'forest education specialist's role' are labeled under the management led by the local community, it reflected a positive evaluation. As a result, management led by the local community is efficient as a management system for the forest experience center for children in an experiential forest kindergarten education. Going forward, if this management system is durable in 'keep up the good work' and 'concentrate here', the forest experience center for children led by the local community will be an alternative for an effective experiential forest kindergarten education.

  • The 'Informatics' curriculum for middle school revised in 2007 will be applied since 2010 in school. However, it is difficult to utilize directly school setting because educational contents presented in the curriculum are very comprehensive. Therefore, we need to present specific standards and examples to guide teaching and learning and assessment activities in school setting and right comprehension about new revised curriculum. In this study, we developed the achievement and assessment standards for the 'Representation and Management of Information' unit of Informatics curriculum for middle school revised in 2007. And then, we presented sample questions base on achievement and assessment standards we developed. The levels of the achievement unit were set in the small unit level through the understanding and the analysis of the new curriculum. We described the achievement standards from student's viewpoint and the assessment standards divide into three level(high/middle/low).
